Anyone for Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG?

Revisted the BtVS system a bit ago and remembered how good it was. I really enjoy systems with a cinematic feel and have been getting more into the TV show lately, so I thought I'd snoop around and see if anyone was interested in giving it a spin. My only stipulation is that I really can't GM, as I have a lot on my plate at the moment and don't have a good enough grasp on the lore to be convincing. Since this is only an interest check, I won't try to hash out specific times yet, but weekends are probably ideal.
I'd have some tentative interest as a player. I love that world and the last few times I tried to join a buffy game they died pretty quickly.
I'm quite interested
Depending on the Date and Time I could GM this.
I'm also interested in playing. Let me know if this happens.
Well! 4 players and a GM makes a party, so let's start talking times. :) Like I said above, weekends would be best for me, either Saturday afternoon or Sunday evening. I could also do Wednesday or Friday evenings, though that's less ideal.
Sunday evening's work for me.
Haley, I imagine you would like to play the Slayer?
It doesn't matter too much to me, honestly. I'm definitely willing to take the Slayer if no one else wants her, but I'm also good with playing a White Hat. Just depends on what people are feeling.
Is anyone else interested in being The Slayer?

I'm absolutely not interested in being the Slayer. In my way of thinking a woman PLAYER should take that role. The game and the series is all about women taking the lead, and stepping up to be the heroes of their own stories. While anyone could play a female character, in my way of thinking, it is a disservice to the core concept for a male player to take the role. Now feel free to disagree that is fine, but please be respectful enough to understand that this is only MY OPINION and any opposing view points are equally valid , but not a welcome part of the original conversation. Feel absolutely free to start a new thread and we can continue the conversation there. With that out of the way. I'm busy all day Sunday but Saturday would work as would Wednesday and Friday. I'm currently living in the Central Standard Timezone or -6 GMT. I'm usually free from 10AM until 2AM most days. Peace --Mike
Could we do this game every other week on Saturdays? I totally agre Mike. I just didn't want to force Haley to play the Slayer if she doesn't want to.
Oh, yeah, I completely agree with that Rhys. People should be completely comfortable with the roles they are playing. I just wanted to get that little rant out of my system before we got too far. It's one of my personal pet peeves of the system when women are cast in non-slayer roles is all it boils down to really. I've been lucky enough to play this game a few times in the past and have only seen one actual woman play the slayer which was a bit disheartening considering the whole focus of the game and series. I have strong feelings about it, but not so strong that I wouldn't play if a woman didn't take the slayer role though.
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with playing the Slayer. Just wanted to give the option to others if someone had a real burning desire, lol. I'd personally prefer a weekly game. Every other week can feel a bit slow to me, and I must admit that in a system that emulates a TV series, I enjoy the weekly 'episode' setup. I'd still be willing to play every other week if necessary, though. Would there be a better day for a weekly meeting for you, Rhys?
Well Friday's would work best for me if we are doing weekly. But most everyone has said that wouldn't work too well.
My main issue with Fridays is that I sometimes like to go out, so it's not a hard and fast conflict. Just wanted to throw out my most convenient days first and see if anything stuck.
Is Wednesday any better?
Wednesday is currently the best non-weekend day, yeah.
So why don't we shoot for Wednesday the 10th of next month as our pilot episode?
Sounds good! Do we want to have a character creation session before then?
I would like to. I'd also like to figure out the setting with everyone.
Wednesday night est works for me. Afraid I can't do earlier though.
What time works best for everyone?
8 PM or later, again east coast north America timezone. Mike, you've said your stance on cross playing the slayer, are you against it in general or just that specific instance? I have four ideas in my head and 2 are female characters.
*pops in for a peek* Mike suggested that I check out this thread, though he hasn't answered my question yet on if the game would be text, video or voice.  Given my situation, it's a very important distinction.
Well It'll most likely be Voice or Video.
I'd prefer voice only. Video's not my fave. And 7 CST/8 EST works great for me.

I have four ideas in my head and 2 are female characters. I guess I should make my stance on that clearer so thanks for pointing it out Mark. In general I don't care what other players play as long as it's good for the game, in general. For instance I don't think you need to BE an Elf to play one. Because, well, they don't exist in the modern world (that we know of ;) ).  My issue (and it is only my issue) is that I think the slayer should be played by a female player. I have no problems with people playing any gender or sexual orientation they feel comfortable playing. I'm an old gamer and have played several kinds of games with hundreds of players and for me, it's all good. In my years of playing I've come to understand that my personal comfort zone of character types to play is not the same as everyone else. However I'd never tell you what you can or can't play. So, if, for example you're a straight man in the real world, wanting to play a lesbian dwarf, I say go for it. It's not for me to stop you from having fun however you see fit. That, in and of itself, will not stop me from playing with you. Now if you're a disruptive player, jerk, rules lawyer, meta-gamer and ETC. in general (and I'm not calling anyone out specifically, I'm speaking in the general/generic use of the term "you") no matter what gender or orientation I don't want to play with you but other then that anything goes. As I tried to make clear before, my feelings about a female player playing the Slayer are strong but not strong enough to stop me from playing in this game. I hope that makes it clearer for you Mark. As for availability I'm free from 7PM CST Wednesdays until 2AM no problem there. Hope this helps --Mike PS. My vote for method of execution would be for a text-based system. I know that a lot of people aren't comfortable with that but hear me out at least. Text is, in my experience, a more immersive play style. It also allows everyone to have their say without fear of interruption or being talked over while trying to make a point. While it is a bit slower it can avoid the disconnect between player and character. To use the above example my buddy Bruce the burly dock worker can play a female dwarf and it is much more believable. The character's "voice" is only in my head and not being conveyed by a deep baritone in my ears. Also narrative actions become more thought out because you have to stop to put the words together instead of just reacting or going from impulse. I'm not saying that I won't do a Voice game, but I at least wanted to make the point for having a text only game.
I agree on what you say about Text based RP but I'm just a lot more comfortable with Voice.
Having done both text and voice, I much prefer voice. I actually find it more immersive than text, and I feel like I get to know the players more as people than as just characters. Differences in voice don't throw me out of immersion at all -- and don't some of the best rp stories come from acting under pressure and not thinking it through? :)
Very true.
All good. I just wanted to make my case and if it doesn't work for everyone that's fine. You'll have to suffer though hearing my voice and clumsy descriptions . :D
Still looking for some Buffy the Vampire Slayer goodness. Anyone out there running some, I hope? please feel free to drop a line or PM.
