First-time user looking for a good start-up, short-term campaign to help me get used to it.

Hi all, I have been ostracized by my local gaming groups because I'm a girl. My stepdad taught me the bare-bones rules of DnD before he sold all of his gear. I love video game RPGs and I would love to participate in a DnD campaign as a REAL character, not just a sex object. If anyone's interested, reply on this. Obviously I can't DM because I have no idea about how to do that.
What edition are you interested in?
It astounds me how awfully sexist gaming groups can be. In general I avoid the random groups of people posting listings at my local gaming shops, but my friends don't really play much anymore, so I'm kind of in the same boat of wanting to game and not having a group. I'm also a new user to the site and would be interested in playing in a short D&D campaign.
[...] Hi all, I have been ostracized by my local gaming groups because I'm a girl. [...] No way! I DM'd my first game in '79, and personally I have never encountered anyone who turned a player away because of their gender. In fact, a large number of the games I've been involved in have had more than one female player. Your local gaming groups are obviously **insert something inappropriate here to describe them**.
I'll play, I need to test my paladin anyways.
What kind of time-table are you looking at? I will be busy for about the next week and a half, but if you are willing to wait that long I can most likely DM a one-shot for you in Pathfinder.
I wouldnt mind playing with you, I am fairly experienced with all pre 4e D&D editions... never really got into 4e but I wouldnt mind playing it.
im also fairly new and would be up to joining up for a good run
If you're willing to try another system, you can check out my League of the Free Lands campaign (see my post in the forum). The rules are light and easy to learn, way easier than D&D.
D&D rules arnt that hard :P §1. The DM is always right. §2. Roll a dice whenever the DM says so. §3. Act your character :)
Hi Uma. I am starting up a D&D Next campaign http://community.roll20.net/discussion/3778/interest-in-dd-next Would love to have you.

Well, its not campaign play, but if you are willing to run a character through a series of one shot episodes using the Pathfinder rules, then the PAG might be a good place to start. I ran my first game there last weekend (House of Sorrow) and will probably run it again in the next week or two. Newbie players are fine by me...actually easier since they don't argue about rules as much. I personally prefer mixed gender groups as the presence of a woman tends to minimize the "locker room" talk I find so annoying in some "all male" groups. Most groups I've gamed with IRL had at least one female player, and in one group, we had four women and only two guys. Sorry to hear about your experiences, cases of bad luck.
