[LFP] Players interested in a SciFi Future Nior tale setting using Cortex (aka. Serenity)?

I call this campaign setting I've crafted Cold Space ; inspired by TV shows and movies such as Aliens, Babylon 5, Bladerunner, Fifth Element , Ghost in the Shell, among others. Another might call it cyberpunk in space (though not always in space). Elements of it include aliens, cyberware, psionics, genetic manipulation, mega-corporations, intrigue, combat. A general setting description for the curious : Cold Space Setting ----- Story Opening of Below the Surface: Mood music (Theme Song of Tale): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm8ClRnVxtE Within the Solarian League of Planets , underneath the waters of the planet Aquavista , within the sealed city of Deep Light a man named Clarence Sutter is killed. Murdered, authorities determined, by a person or persons unknown using an unregistered, illegal weapon. Budgeted time and effort was dutifully employed though the case, like thousands across the planet occurring that day, eventually was filed away as unsolved after seven days. The police, presumably, could not afford to put any more effort into it. That was not the end of it. Someone, valuing their anonymity, wanted answers and was willing to pay. Eyebrows were raised of it. People with an ear to the ground asked the question: Who was Clarence Sutter to have such value to anyone? The cursory answer was no one. The man was a 5th rank droid maintenance worker, father of two originating from a large family line, parishioner of the Church of the Almighty's Light, almost as cripplingly indebted as any citizen, and a dues paying low level member of the Maintenance Union 4091. A few did not believe that was it. Like chum in the water that drew them to find their own answers. One or two didn't care who they hurt to get them. The client however was not interested in them serving him in the endeavor. They'd chosen your group, represented by Mr. Lucious Spander , who had promoted you to them, to find the answers. When the details were received by all concerned on your Comcalls there was some notable reaction among your own. The band reacted individually to the news. It was higher than standard pay for job's like this with an understanding of exclusivity, options for time extension, heath services, and even a bonus. No one was this generous without a reason. Something was lurking below the surface in all this. Something, each sensed, which might be dangerous. This wasn't going to be your run of the mill job.
When would this be?
Currently thinking Alternate Fridays but actual day is still in flux
Would I be able to play without voice or video?
I'd accept text as well though voice would be appreciated. I have Skype (which another prefers) and Discord for voice if you have speakers to hear GM narrative (which would be helpful).
I'd be down to play. I have voice only, no video cam. Never had any experience with sci-fi systems or settings, I've mostly played 5e, but I'm eager to try it out.

Looks like we got a couple players. I'll start with a minimum of three but may accept up to six. A few more would be welcome. Visual materials are almost ready.
We are in the character creation stage. New players, irregardless of experience, are welcome so long as they are mature adults. Setting is inspired by TV and movies such as Aliens, Babylon 5, Bladerunner, Chronicles of Riddick, Ghost in the Machine, etc. The curious are welcome to visit the page. Search for Cold Space: Below the Surface and Cortex for the game system in the group search.
was just curious as to what version of cortex you were using, serenity, classic, or plus?
I believe its termed Cortex Plus, which games like Battlestar Galactica & Serenity are derrived from. I'm taking the basic assets and complications from any SciFi sources. Another player is providing a worksheet and I've included a Serentiy based worksheet in the game.
do assets come on Major/minor form? d4/d8 form? or d2/d4/d6/d8/d10/d12?
if it's not plus, I have some resources for classic and the old serenity system that you might be interested in. Sadly it isn't compatible with Cortex+
Im treating the assets and complications according to levels of effect rather than saying major or minor as Serenity does so d2/d4/d6/d8 (I've requested max of d8 in creation). Still, I'd be interested in learning of those resources. I have a few of my own.
Hi,sounds very intriguing, but before I get all excited... What time/timezone are you thinking for this? (I'm GMT btw) And is it friendly to players new to the system? Cheers

Cheers - Well I'm East Coast, USA (EST) So your 5 hours ahead. 7pm for me would be 12am for you. - Friendly? Id like to think so, but ultimately I believe that's a matter of opinion. I'd be happy to guide anyone new to the system through it as we play. It uses d2, d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 die for rolls. The basics are you roll 1 attribute die, possibly a skill die and asset die, based on RP circumstance and how you built the character, total them, and see if it beats an opposing number to determine a success or failure. Something called plot points can assist the character. - If you like I can provide a PC character to help ease you into it. If it's not your cup-o-tea you can pull out with style ;) .
Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Unfortunately the time isn't great for me - midnight to 4am ish is a bit late methinks! The dice mechanic sounds simple enough :)
It shall soon be time to start. The game system is Cortex (aka. Serenity). The tale is Below the Surface a mystery / action / adventure for mature players. The setting is Cold Space ; a nior Scifi future with all manner of humanity. Think Babylon 5 with cyberpunk elements. Interested players are welcome. Not certain of the game system? No problem. I can provide characters to play, even build them to players desire (within reason).
Whulp, first session will be Monday, February 29th at 7pm PST. Ideally this will be played on alternating Fridays with the second session on Friday, March 11th at 7pm PST . Any that are interested feel free to let me know. Another few mature players are welcome, even if you want to just try it out. The first taste is always free. ;)
