[LF1P] [Weekends] [New Players Welcomed] To Join a Lost Mines of Phandelver Party In Progress (not too far in to the game) [D&D 5e] [GMT Afternoons / Evenings] [EST Mornings / Afternoons]

Hello! The Party (so far...) We are a fun-loving group of 3 players and 1 GM -- the players are in GMT-0 (England) and the GM (me) is in GMT-5 (Canada), and we role-play our characters (not necessarily with voice, etc., but based on the characters actions), but never take ourselves too seriously.  All characters are Level 1, on the verge of Level 2.  We would level you up to 2 with the characters. We recently started Lost Mines of Phandelver, and are looking for 1 more player to join.   People new to D&D / 5e / Roll20  are welcome, as some of the current players started that way.  (I've played D&D in the past, but was new to 5e.) The party currently consists of a High Elf Wizard (who only seems to hit with Magic Missiles -- thankfully they are auto hit :> !), a Halfling Rogue (very proficient in animal handling... especially oxen -- see below!), Hill Dwarf Cleric (who's too busy healing the party to roll a decent attack role :> ), and a Human Fighter (blind as all get out in low-light / no-light situations, so the Wizard fashioned up a pretty, magically-enhanced, light-emanating necklace.  Now everyone can see him coming :o !).  We are looking for someone, anyone, who can actually roll a decent attack dice! We can start you with a pre-gen Fighter from the D&D Starter Set ( see the last 2 pages here ), or if you are knowledgeable enough to prepare your own level 1 character before game, you're welcome to bring any Players Handbook (PHB) Level 1 class / race  you choose.  ( Basic rules preferred , but if you want to go further with the full PHB rules, we're fine with that as well.) We play the Rules As Written (RAW) from the basic rules (see link immediately above), unless it's slowing down game play, then we make a quick call and go :) . Next Session Very likely this Sat.Feb.27 or Sun.Feb.28 (see Game Time / Frequency below), and currently choosing a time... Roleplay We are certainly "Descriptive Approach" vs. "Active Approach" (see "Descriptive Approach to Roleplaying" on p.66 of the  Basic Rules , and then "Active Approach to Roleplaying" on p.67).  That is, we don't necessarily 'speak in character' (e.g., 'voice acting'), but we certainly have the characters act according to their personalities, background, etc. If you're new to role play, I believe this method is more welcoming for newer players, and less intimidating.  You can also 'graduate' to Active later! Game Time / Frequency We play Saturdays or Sundays, and shoot for every week, but sometimes have to skip a week.  Not all players join each week, which is fine, and the reason we're looking for 1 more.  If 1 player misses, we're down to 2 players.  If 2 players miss, we're down to 1 player and then we reschedule.  Having one more player will increase the chance of playing with at least 2 players, and decrease the "1 player" issue :) . (We're also looking for 1 more player / character, as Lost Mines is meant for 4 - 5 characters, and they aren't joking.  I won't lie to you, we've had a few death saving throws and a lot of healing going on :) ! ) Times change each week.  We typically play for ~4 hours, maybe 3, maybe 5, and we set the next game time each week.  We don't start any earlier than 8:30am GMT-5 (EST), but we also don't start much later than 5pm or 6pm GMT-0 (England), so we're not finishing too late GMT time. Gaming Style Again, pretty loose.  We have fun, and stick to the rules where we can, but don't allow it to slow us down.  Many jokes abound, especially based around the fact our Halfling Rogue spent a lot of the first encounter taking cover behind the south end of a north facing oxen :) .  We are also convinced someone has rigged the Roll20 system to either roll low for the characters or high for the monsters.  We are currently suspicious of either  Bonz , who set up the characters, or  me , the GM.  No formal charges have been laid as of yet, but there is an ongoing investigation :) . Joining A Slightly Started Adventure To avoid spoilers on the open forum, I can PM to bring you up to speed.  I can tell you that, with an adventure that has about 8 separate (but tied in) encounters -- not all of them need to be played to finish the adventure, and not including the town that's the 'home base' of the adventure, this party has only completed 1 full encounter (the initial, short encounter for the adventure) and are just about the finish the 2nd encounter, so you'd come in at a logic spot and get to play right away.  We'd bring you up to speed quickly, and the vast majority of the adventure is still to be played! Commitment and Future We know people can't always make it each week.  We are simply looking for a commitment to make the majority / most sessions so we don't have to look for another player every few weeks. Re: the future, we originally got together via Roll20 to accomplish this adventure, and potentially continue beyond it.  We'll figure that out when it comes, but at the least you'll have fun with a good gang, crack some jokes, kill some monsters, and maybe, just maybe, you too can learn from our Hafling Rogue how to take cover up the butt of an oxen :D ! My GM Style The following I posted to the players when we started, to give them an idea of my style.  Most you'll pick up from above, but I'm re-posting here: I have the 5e starter adventure pretty much set up in Roll20, so looking forward to it but know there will be hiccups as I'm somewhat new to Roll20 (although being a techie in a past life, I tend to be a quick learner) I look for a group that is in it for the fun. Obviously rules help keep everything consistent, however IMO, if a rule gets missed but the gang is having a good time, so be it. I'd rather see people learn D&D in a fun atmosphere (assuming they are new to the game), then worry about being 100% accurate with the rules, as I believe over enough time we'll catch different rules we miss and integrate them. IMO, the other way (rules first, fun later), means a lot of people leave the game before getting to know it :< . I can work with a group that wants to check every rule before every move (although it'll slow down things somewhat); or can work with a group that would rather keep the pace up and worry about the exact rules at the end, and integrate them as we learn them. although I'm relatively new to 5e, as well as Roll20, I enjoy helping others learn -- so we'll probably need a bit of patience on either side, but I'm up for it if the gang is up for it :> ! finally, ideally if it works out, we'll continue on as a group with more adventures, etc., but I understand that doesn't always work out and we'll just have to see how it goes We hope to see you join us!  Questions, etc., please post below and someone from the party will answer!
I am new to D&D, I have watched/listened to all of the AI games, and am watching Critical Role right now. I have the 5e Players Handbook, DM guide and Monster manual. I am 30 and available almost every weekend.

I'd love to join. I have played 3.5E quite a bit and am itching to try 5E. I am from the West Coast. That would make this an early morning game for me, which would be absolutely perfect for my schedule. I would like to play a ranged High Elf Rogue(Thief)/Fighter (Battlemaster) but am open to any class needed by the group.

What days too?  Bonz
During the week is pretty terrible for me. I would only be available after 7pm PST on Thursday or Friday. On weekends, I am much more available. I wake up around 5am PST and am available throughout the entire day. Saturdays are better than Sundays since every other week I have family commitments on Sunday mornings starting at 7:30 am PST.
I was going to try and make my own character.
Thanks Shevek and Justin P. We'll be in touch!
Thanks to everyone who responded!  We've chosen a player, but keep everyone on my list for future games, etc. Thanks again for responding, and if things change I'll be in touch! Continue to use Roll20 -- it's how I found the group I current GM!
