Retaining map sizing & webpage background coloring

Is there a way to have the size & position of a map retained so I can tailor where on the map the players see when I move them to it? I'm running 2 instances of Roll20 on my system, on logged in with a GM account & one logged in with a player account. I've tried resizing & positioning the map on both the GM & player instance, but when I move the players back to the map, some times it's the same size & position, & some times it's wildly different. Also, is there a way to change the color of the webpage background outside the overall map object. Currently it's the default grey, but when using Fog of War & the map ends up being zoomed all the way out when 1st loaded, the players can see the overall size of the map & the layout can be inferred. If the Fog of War color matched the webpage background coloring, then the 2 would blend together & the players couldn't see how big the map on the page. Thanks for the help
As I understand it: The players will be at the top-left of the map when they arrive. The zoom-level is the same as the last map they were at. You cannot control their zoom-level. You can shift-ping to bring them to the location on the map you want them to be. One workaround to the size issue is make all maps much larger than they need to be and keep the actual map of the dungeon/building/whatever in the center. That way you never run up against the edge and the players cannot infer anything regarding layout. I had this problem at one point as well. You'll prob have to shift-ping to bring them to the entrance though. Hopefully some of the above helps.
The only way to change the grey'ish background around the map is to use Stylish or a similar extension, but that only works for you. Not all your players... unless they use the same settings as well.
Thanks. Now I understand how it works, so I can plan to reset the sizing & position before I move to the next map.
Just thought of something. You could draw a dynamic lighting line around the border of the map and turn on global illumination. That would turn the background black for everyone.

Wonderful idea but dynamic lighting requires a subscription of plus or pro while the OP is a free account.

You can make your page size larger, and put your map area somewhere in the middle, to dissuade players from inferring the map edges. (This is the same tip as Three Of Swords said in point #4). Use the page background color settings to put any color you like, behind your map, for the margins. For example make a black background if you want it to appear to blend with Fog Of War blackness. Here is the Wiki docs for page background color, https://wiki.roll20.net/Page_Settings#Background
I just tried making the map bigger and setting the BG color to black (to match the fog-of-war) and it worked GREAT! Thanks, but I have a related question. Can the chat/settings sidebar be hidden? The reason is, I have a large monitor (37" diag) set horizontally on the table top and want to use Roll20 as the map display system for the players at the table (Yes in the same physical location, not virtual) The fog of war feature is great to allow me as DM to reveal the map as they physically move their miniatures on the TV screen surface. This basically replaces the old grease pencil or dry-erase board. The issue I have is the rather large side bar on the right side of the screen. Can it be suppressed or turned off?
Two ways to hide the sidebar: Hit the W key. On the left side of the sidebar is a small tab with three parallel lines. Click it.
Thank you!
I do the same thing ;) I also recommend pressing F11 on the players screen ;)
Thanks Rick, Already discovered that. This weekend (March 5th) will be the first test of this setup. I will let everyone know how it works out. Korg sends
