Is there a way to do this? For example, I'm trying to make a system that involves two players against one another but I don't want 1 player trying to find distance and having that give away his/her token's position. If not it's fine!
For a workaround, give the players access to a measuring token and they can place it where they want to start measuring from and then use the waypoint feature (hit spacebar while dragging a token) to measure without giving away their location, as long as they don't drop that token on to the map and return it to where they started.
I think you could have players use auras as a type of measure tool also. Like if 1 player set aura to 100 ft they could zoom out to see what is in the 100 ft range. Each player's token can have 2 different colors of auras with different ranges.
Using that idea as a basis jbokcrusader, you can set one color for your short range (range weapons), medium range, and have the dynamic light setup at their long range. This would mean if they can see it, it is in their long range. If it is in one aura color it is in medium range and if it is the second color, it is short range. That would solve the need to do any combat measuring.
I like the idea of using spacebar movement that honeybadger suggested. It's just going to suck if he/she accidentally presses it again and moves that way but hey it's the best work around. I also love the idea of using auras for range bands! Never thought of that! Anyways thank you all so much for the tips!!! I'm making a tactical shooter for Roll20 using both a GM and players only for a gaming class in college. Hopefully all goes well.
