RP; Off to See the Wizards

On yet another crisp autumnal morning, a cart laden with carefully packed sacks trundles its way along the cobbled streets until coming to a stop by the White Horse Inn, chief chapter house in the City of Haven's Company of Magi. The Man pushing the cart is eventually met with their equivalent of a sergeant. "Ah, Boone isn't it? Your note said you might have something of interest?" "That's right, my friend. Now I'm sure you've heard of the discoveries made under that evil tree by the Forest of Shadows yes? That dark place was saturated by a powerful and... off... aura of magic. It lead to some quite strange developments of in the flora and fauna etc. and I have brought a large amount of samples;" At this point he carefully opens the top of the sacks in the cart so it's possible to get a good view of the contents. Large chunks of shiny white saline crystals, a white powder made from those same crystals after being smashed and crushed. Another sack contains carefully wrapped spider silk and at this Boone points to a fang taken from the beast that made it, dangling on a rope around his neck, the fang almost as long as his arm. Three more sacks contain parts of what must have been an absolutely enormous mushroom, with samples taken from its gills, it's cap and its pulpy stalk. "I will give to your organisation these sacks. Absolutely no charge. For you to do with and experiment on as you please. All I ask for in return is that you fully and honestly inform me of any and all properties that you discover they possess. What do you say to that?"
As you do this you see Erolith walking down the road toward the mage house he walks up to you and says hello Boone i didn't expect to see you here as far as i no you cant cast spells he looks at you with a questioning  gaze
Boone shifts he gaze from the White Horse representative to look at the newcomer. "Ah, Mindartis! Havent seen you for a while, hope you're well. Anyway, no I'm not much of a spellcaster, though I have learned a trick or two you could say, I'm here with these items," he motions to the sacks on the cart "Got these from under that cave we found near the Forest, and I'm hoping the Magi here would like to examine them and if so, tell me anything they learn!" Turning back from the elf he says to the practioner at the door. "So, what say you? Is it a deal, friend?"

A tall, slightly pot-bellied man dressed in robes bows and say 'I am Ulrich and it is agreed Master Boone; we shall discover the uses of these substances, if indeed they have any.'
"Good, thank you sir! I hope you and your people learn much and get good use out of them" The ranger smiles and shakes Ulrich's hand then helps them carry the sacks inside. Once his borrowed cart is empty he gives a departing wave and begins to trundle back up the street.
watching Boone do this deal, Erolith stares at both Boone and the bag eyeing up both in equal measure. "Its Erolith Boone, so you have some capability it seems, yes Syvil told me everything that happened in the cave a most interesting situation, you there Ulrich was it I wish entry into this tower and membership, I am Erolith adna"

Ah; Master Erolith! I had been wondering when you might visit us! Do come inside. I am told you wish to join us, That is well, but first you must undertake a little task for us. We require a certain artefact. It resides in the Fane of the Haunter according to our researches. I know you know the location of this cave; but did you know of the the secret entryway and the labyrinth that lies behind? No; I thought not........... .Ulrich closes the door.

A night shortly after these events Syvil has requested that Erolith meet him at the very southernmost tip of Haven; a plot of grass sloping down towards the sea between Racer Street and Thunder Row. From the shore you can clearly see coast of Maladon as it stretches out between the horizons. Ahh. It is a strange thing the sea. Especially now; so cold and vast yet somehow so inviting. I've been meaning to talk to you about a few things, there's so much left to understand and you are the best man for questions. Here; have some more of this tea I've made... Syvil pours Erolith another cup of a steaming hot deep green liquid that smells strongly of citrus and fur. He pours some for himself, takes a deep swallow and sighs; his breath now a heavy mist on the chill air. It seems this island holds too many mysteries; too many questions and too few answers. As if someone if purposefully hiding the truth from us. I've said it before and I'll say it again; I'm no scholar. For example, there are these four men who live in a cave out in the Forest of Shadows; they spoke of, Hrorn? I think it was, and of some struggle taking place on Maladon where people's minds are being taken over. What is all this? A fairytale? And then there's her , you know, Isildra. Syvil makes a worried look and stares again in the direction he once indicated to you in a dark alleyway. I don't understand what she wants and I'm only slightly more certain of what she is . So, here's my suggestion to you; why don't you steer the ship for a bit eh? I could really use your guidance in a few matters and besides for my training with ser Cain, not that he's agreed to help yet mind you, I've not much to do. Just took care of my last loose end today as a matter of fact. What do you think? What's our next step? What's the next adventure?
Erolith looks out to the sea and drinks the tea as Syvil is talking never saying a word just listening and waiting, then when Syvil is done, he speaks "the only thing we can do is search I have come into contact with people who know my name and everything about me, they fear me for some reason and I don't totally know why yet" Erolith finishes the drink and pours himself and syvil another "I have done a great many things syvil, mostly things on the other side of a rising tide that wished to wash over all and I know the signs when I see them, things are only going to get worse, so we need to start now first and foremost, if you can read and write Syvil which I'm sure you can, then you can be a scholar best start now, stop leaning on me to fix things and start taking action yourself I can only do so much and I'm busy trying to gather all the pieces for this little game" Erolith looks at Syvil as his harsh words wash over him. Erolith breaths deeply, "I know I sound harsh, it needs to be said I have come closer to death more than once and if I die you're going to need to learn to find out things and manage on your own, there is a war coming and we have been given key information, but none we can share because we don't know who we can trust so we must gather our army and fight when the time comes but yes there are 3 places we must go and we must go on them together you already have the first one in mind Syvil the other two well your see."

Now it has been Syvil who has listened. He gratefully takes the third cup that Erolith hands him and sips thoughtfully. Once Erolith finishes he sits in silence for a bit then speaks. Well, perhaps you are right. I'll see about reading a bit more in either case. Maybe there's something on all this in a book, though I doubt it. Perhaps... Syvil turns around to spot someone walking on the street above and falls silent.
Stephen Dove said: A tall, slightly pot-bellied man dressed in robes bows and say 'I am Ulrich and it is agreed Master Boone; we shall discover the uses of these substances, if indeed they have any.' After the passing of several weeks, when the ices of winter have came and are starting to go Boone returns to the magi residing within the White Horse and requestings a meeting with the good master Ulrich. "Good morning!" The man declares brightly and shakes his hand "Still a nip in the air but you can feel the spring coming on the wind I think. I trust you and your fellows have been well over the winter, and had fun trying to discern whatever properties the items i dropped of might have had? Though I heard you were called out on some incident involving a nasty piece of business on the street of three fishes, aye?"
