Players Present: Luke C. playing Kritty the Swashbuckler (274) Naryar playing Brother Sarman the Martial Artist (261) Brandon playing Solaire and Terezi the Cleric and Divine Servitor (264) Stripe playing NPC Tammy Funderburk We started out late with a wonderful recap of the previous
session by Luke and began formally with the crew opening up a doorway and
Brother Sarman nearly getting sucker punched by a man hiding inside a broom
closet. Taking a quick strike from both Sarman and Kritty, he calmed down
enough to explain that he thought that they were attacking him and that his
name was Tammy Funderburk, drawn to the manor like anyone else.
Kritty, inspired by MacGuyver but thwarted by the lack of a
paperclip is forced to improvise a torch out of a mop, cleaning supplies, and
the flint and steel from his personal basics. Holding that in his offhand, he
exams the sole door leading onwards and convinces his fellow warrior to open
the door in his stead despite sensing no traps. Being ever so slightly smarter
than his companion, Brother Sarman opened the door triggering the bucket of
whitewash above but didn’t get splashed by it thanks to not moving into the
room.
Beyond the door it opened into a featureless hallway and
then into a maze beyond. Exploring the first couple yards of the maze yielded nothing,
but Brother Sarman detected something wrong with the atmosphere within, and was
soon proved right when the entire party took psionic damage in a wave of purple
light, unable to resist the psionic wave. And soon enough they heard the bellow
of a minotaur roaring.
Disregarding the danger, the curious Captain Kritty moved
onwards and found the first of several chests containing $500 and a note
congratulating him. Unfortunately this also placed him a little ways behind the
party when they came face to face with the great minotaur himself. Sarman
attempting the peaceful route, the beast was not to be swayed from his dinner
and fell into a berserk rage.
A fierce battle ensued. Missing the Martial Artist with his
attempt to slam him into the wall behind, the minotaur took his first bit of
damage by dealing it to himself. Tammy,
attempting heroism, launched a wild punch at the beast and ended up brusing his
knuckles and giving the minotaur a possible Charlie horse. Solaire, a few steps
behind the others in the narrow passageways began to concentrate upon his
spells to aid his companions as his ally Terezi strode forth and scored a
critical hit to the minotaur’s left leg for double the damage and dealing the
first damage from an outside source.
Not to be outdone, Captain Kritty pushed past the Servitor
of War and Chaos, dealing two critical blows with his saber, nearly halving the
beast’s HP in a split second. To add insult to injury, Sarman then manages to
grapple and throw the beast who barely manages to counter with a breakfall,
leaving him in a crouch. Unfortunately this is a bad move for the extraordinary
Martial Artist as the beast stands up again and performs a Kali Ma on the man
with his horns. Nearly killing the hero there and then, when the Martial Artist,
stunned by the blow, falls prone his allies step forwards to protect him.
Terezi bashing the knuckles of the minotaur and Kritty stepping forwards and
attempts to cripple the berserker’s leg.
It only takes another moment to bring the beast down to the
ground, but it still wasn’t enough to kill him. Taking second after second of
constant blows to his back and neck, the beast struggles forwards like the
Terminator, grasping at Terezi’s leg and attempting to wrench it apart, to at
least break it before his own life is taken, but Solaire protected his ally by
granting her the gift of Might. Her strength, now increased to monumental
proportions is enough to resist the great beast, though her first few blows
after being grappled caused her to just flail wildly in the air.
The great battle is finally decided when Terezi concentrates
for one great, determined attack slamming her mace directly into the back,
cracking the spine and killing him, having already been weakened by Kritty and
even Sarman attempted to avenge himself.
With the juggernaut finally perished and two party members
nearly dead or unconscious, Tammy pulled Brother Sarman with him to the start
of the maze with Terezi pulling her companion, Solaire. The former managing to
make it out before another purple flare filled the labyrinth with the latter
two not so lucky. Kritty, once again ignoring the danger continues to explore
the maze, finding another chest full of $500 and another note.
Soon returning to the group to share his discovery that the
maze was immense, and not so much that there was $1,000 in there, he waited for
a few before his curiosity got the better of him and he plunged back into the
maze, his companions in the hands of Tammy and Terezi to rest up. Coming face to face with a horrid looking
skull on a pedestal, another chest and $500, and then back to the horrid skull.
Deciding to do nothing, he returns back.
At the end of the session, the group has decided to rest up
by returning to the center hub room, though they still need to make it back
there.
