"Savage" Darwin's World Campaign is now Live, "Kennel For Hyenas"

Was "Interest Check...". Weekly session, Sundays from 8pm CST to 11pm CST. Campaign is now Active. First game session will be November 4th, Sunday 8pm-11pm CST. At this time all slots are full and recruitment is closed. I will maintain a waiting list in the event that an active player leaves. Link for campaign: https://app.roll20.net/join/48100/NvtrUA ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darwin's World; also known as "The Post Apocalyptic RPG session that you couldn't score reservations for at GenCon". I'd run this with the Savage World ruleset instead of the original d20 ruleset. The d20 Gestapo sometimes found their way into my games and that pissed me off SO MUCH! So I say to hell with them d20 bastages. Savage World Rules for a Savage World World. I'll skip the master's thesis on campaign fluff. It's hard kids. Life in a world with no fridge and no cops to protect you even if you had a fridge is hard. It's just unpleasant. Trust me. You weren't there. So now's your chance to go there. Rationed Mutant Rat Meat. Rigid Watch Protocols. Guaranteed Compromise of Civil Virtues. Man Eating Postmen. Radioactive Hell. White Line Nightmares. Mother Nature Sh-t The Bed. Bring a gas mask. In fact, bring two (2) because you'll probably puke in one of 'em and that's just gross. Only the most creative dirtbag scavengers with sound judgement surgically removed should apply. Make sure you're good for CONUS time zones during evening hours if you raise a hand. I have yet to GM a game over roll20, so sit tight while I play a few sessions first. If I get the impression that GM'ing over roll20 is harder than mashing Function keys during a MMO raid, then I'll back off this deal. I have enough stress as it is with the rising cost of gas, centerfire ammunition, and my kid's weekly blackmail reprisals.
I'm interested.
I am also interested.
Put your Savage Worlds and/or Darwins World experience in your post. Having none in either or both won't be a deal breaker, just wanna know what I'd be dealing with.
I've never played Darwin's World, but i've GMed and played as a PC a handful of times with Savage Worlds. It sounds like a lot of fun.
I'm interested, but it depends on the actual weekday and time/timezone the game is going take place on as to whether I can participate or not. I have Savage Worlds Deluxe and I have played a few games using Savage Worlds before. I have read some of the Darwin's World stuff, but not played a game in the setting yet. I love post-apocalyptic stuff - especially with mutants, robots, and stuff like that =)
Timezone is CONUS (CONtinental United States) evenings. Duration would be something like 8pm CST to 11 pm CST. Day of the week is flexible.
If I can get 6 votes on CST 8pm-11pm for one night a week, I will green light the campaign. I'd like 4-6 players for each session. Starting date will probably be first week of November. Campaign length would be 3 to 6 months, with a possibility for an ongoing afterwards.
I've GMed a handful of Savage Worlds games but have never played Darwin's World. Sounds cool though. I'm down to play on Sunday nights, though I could make Wednesday nights work, possibly Mondays.
Im fine with the time. Put me down as a yes.
Broadly speaking, Darwin's World realism is half-way between a "gonzo" post apocalyptic setting like Gamma World and a very realistic setting like Twilight 2000. There are mutants but they aren't an overwhelming majority of the populace. High Technology hasn't been completely forgotten either. The feel is probably best compared with the "Fallout" CRPG series with a few more mutant tropes thrown in. Darwin's World point of entry is well over a century since the fall of civilization, so there wouldn't be any "natural" survivors from the pre-fall era of civilization. Hope this flushes out the setting for those unfamiliar.
The time is fine. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, or Sundays would work for me.
Wyatt A., Will Martin, Elfy: would Sunday or Wednesday nights be better? Either would be perfect for me. If we can get 1 more that can abide by that schedule I will cut to the chase and greenlight.
Sundays.
Sundays also
I'd be fine with Sundays.
Great news. Only need 1 more player with weekly Sundays 8pm-11pm CST availability to make this campaign happen.
Wyatt A., Will Martin, Elfy: If this is your first experience with the Darwin's World setting, would you prefer to use pre-generated characters or roll your own? Some players prefer to use pre-gen characters for games they may have not played in the past. In case of the latter, I will provide ample handouts and guidance during character creation sessions. Keep in mind that this would be an ongoing campaign so you may want more input on your character's design for the long haul. Either way I will be happy to facilitate.
This is my first time playing Darwin's World, but I think I'll be OK rolling my character. Thanks.
I have Savage Worlds Deluxe and I have played a few games using Savage Worlds before. I have read some of the Darwin's World stuff, but not played a game in the setting yet. I'd want to make my own character.
Ya, I'd also like to roll my own character. Should I get one of the Savage Darwin's World books? I've also played a couple times with Deluxe.
Oh, and I have the Savage Darwin's World pdf and Savage Deluxe
GM, what are your guidelines for character creation? Are we starting off as Novices with 0xp, or more experienced characters? Are there any house rules or optional rules you will be using or any restrictions we should be aware of? What sort of set-up do you have in mind for the hows and whys of the characters meeting/working together?
1. You all sound quite experienced enough to make good decisions during the character creation stage. We will go with Roll Your Own character creation. 2. Characters are Novices, starting rank is effectively 0. 3. If you have Savage Worlds/Savage Worlds Deluxe Rules AND Darwin's World Survivor's Guide (Savage World Version) then I will accept characters you have created offline AFTER I initiate the Roll20 Campaign Board AND received the results from your Individual Pre-Campaign Interviews. 4. Individual Pre-Campaign Interviews: No, I'm not some closet Human Rescources nutcase, but I'd like to get an understanding of your ideas for your character's identity and your playstyle preferences. These interviews will inform the campaign's "point of entry" and the reasons why your characters would have teamed up as such. 5. As GM for this campaign I will be invoking a relatively faithful rendition of the Darwin's World setting. This should go without being said, regardless, please refrain from peeking at GM's Eyes type material if it is accessible to you. If you know about a location or situation from a past Darwin's World reading then just play dumb! 6. The tempo will be "challenging and hardcore". If the group does not prepare appropriately and fails to exercise some degree of initiative, harsh and unforgiving consequences will result. Assume that every mission environment your group enters will have "save versus death" type traps and encounters that could potentially wipe the entire party. You will need to work together to conserve resources. Any asset your character acquires is susceptible to malfunction or loss. Try to have backup plans. Work together and play to your individual strengths. You might just survive.
Are we using the 'Guts' skill? How are you handling Languages (i.e., are you using either of the 2 optional language rules listed in page 8 of the Survivor's Handbook)?
I will be happy to answer once the campaign is activated. Then I can cover character creation on the VTT.
Alright, sounds good. I will be thinking about my character then.
A quick update. I've posted a "looking for players" notice on the Darwin's World Yahoo Group list. It's not a very active list, but it's worth a shot to get an additional player or two.
I have absolutely no experience with this system, but your blurb at the top is totally rad, so I'm interested. I'm good at the listed time any day but tuesday.
See Above, Ryan D and I are buds - both having a terrible time finding groups that last more than a session or two. Very interested.
Great news and thanks Ryan D. & Shortland! With 5 players having cast their lots, this campaign is now GREEN LIT. First session looks like Sunday, 4th of November. I've already participated in a session with Roll20 VTT and it's fairly easy to run. There were a couple of crashes but nothing I'd call a show stopper. I will set up the campaign in a moment. Please join it when you have the opportunity. I'll set the player limit to 6. The people that have responded to this discussion will have a spot reserved until one day prior (Saturday, 3rd of November). At that time I will open any empty slots until 6 seats are active. Characters will be rolled up using the Virtual Table Top. If you have copies of the Darwin's World Survivor's Guide for Savage World and Savage World core rules, you can roll your characters at your convenience using the instructions I post in the campaign comments. Otherwise, I will schedule a character creation session for this Sunday the 28th, 8pm-11pm Central Standard Time.
awesome! looking forward to this!
I've sent each person that has replied to this LFG an invitation to join the campaign, entitled "Kennel For Hyenas". Please visit the link to the campaign and join at your earliest convenience. Thanks!
I've activated the campaign and created a landing screen on the Virtual Tabletop. I will post campaign updates and preparation instructions on the landing screen in between sessions. Active players can access the VTT landing screen at any time by clicking on the "join game in progress" link.
Sounds great! Is there a link?
Will Martin: Here is the link. Please join as promptly so your slot can be filled https://app.roll20.net/join/48100/NvtrUA
All player slots are full and recruitment is closed. Please post if you wish to be added to the waiting list. New players will be invited according to post date, in the event that a currently active player departs the campaign. Thanks for your interest.
Hey, guys - my apologies - I had clicked the link for details - I will not actually be able to join - I have an online PFS game that runs Sundays at the same time. Sorry about causing any confusions. Looks interesting though - wish I could join.
No problem Iron Helixx...I'll re-open for a new player.
Looking for one more player to join the group. The campaign is 2 months old and going strong. Session attendance is exceptional with only one session postponed. Session start time is set in stone, so it can't be changed. The group is cohesive and plays great together. As GM I want to ensure a new player will complement the group and not be the buzz kill. Savage Worlds experience isn't as important as your ability to roleplay your character and effectively participate in the group. I want to give this slot to someone that's a true fan of the post apocalyptic genre. If you're applying simply to get in on a Roll20 campaign, don't expect an invite.
Man I'd love to get in on this. I have experience as a player and a GM mostly with d20 modern and Pathfinder, and I GMed Savage Worlds a handful of times on Roll20. Don't know anything about Darwin's World but it sounds like a lot of fun and cool opportunity to come up with a nutty character. I'm having a hard time finding Savage Worlds games, hope you'll have a spot for me.
Matt, A player filled the last open slot, but it's yours if someone leaves.
OK, thanks!
