Completely new to d&d, eager to learn but have no group ("gamer" friends too lazy to try tabletop)

Hi all, I've been interested in learning D&D for a while, but due to the difficulty of getting the books etc. in my country, and so-called friends that are too lazy to do any actual thinking or role-playing, I've been unable to play. I recently got my hands on a 4e Red Box, and worked through the player's booklet, but sometimes the explanations doesn't make proper sense, and having a lack of anyone that can answer my questions regarding the rules (i ask a LOT of questions to make sure i understand completely), i'm not making much progress. I've got the Quickstart rules and busy reading through that. I was just browsing around on the net to try and find helpful sites or even players that's willing to help, then i discovered roll20, and thought "This is perfect for someone like me! Online tabletop? HELL YEAH!". I basically just want to learn the game, and meet some new people along the way, and maybe even meet a group of people that i will be able to join on more adventures in the near future. Is anyone here willing, or aware of someone that will be willing, to teach a completely new player the ropes and assist where assistance is needed so i can get the rules down and start playing more actively with willing members on this site? And any links to docs or sites that can help a new player will be greatly appreciated as well :)
Oh, i forgot to mention, I live in Johannesburg, South Africa, timezone = GMT+2. Available most weekends except for 2 hours every weekend and weekdays between 18:00 - 23:00 GMT+2
Hello. I don't think that I would be the best to teach you because I can get pretty bad on the rules from time to time, and I don't remember anything. But if your looking for someone to play with I would be more then happy to play with you if you can find a party.
Thanx Collin :) I've finished reading through the QuickStart rules and busy going through the Rules Compendium now as well and next in the line is the Players Handbook, so I think i'm starting to understand a little bit more of this game, so basically going to have to try and find a party that's willing to take in new players sometime soon. It just sucks that there doesn't seem to be very many people here that's close to my timezone :(
Hrmm, I have a steady game of 3.5 D&D where i teach new players, but were MST-7 at 1:00pm on Sundays. If your willing to play at 9:00pm then you are welcome to join, however our games tend to last a while, and i'm not sure if you are cool with playing for five hours straight. If you're interested, contact me and i will help you set up a character and give you some 3.5 tools and docs.
Hi there, I would love to join and don't mind the 5 hours straight thing, but the prob is, if i play from 9pm til 2am, i will NEVER be able to be productive at work the Monday. But thanx for the offer though. :)
