RP; After the Storm

The day following her return from Bael's Isle the sorceress Aurelia forgoes her usual habit of attending a sumptuous inn or accepting the hospitality of obliging lesser nobility, instead she returns to the Manor of her House. She forgoes her usual habit for visits to home, rather than sneaking in quietly she simply goes right to the main entrance and is announced by the doorman. As the word spreads among the household staff her 'body guard' Junarga makes a sudden appearence that starts her, and a bolt of frost only just avoids striking him. Admonishing the man for startling she brushes the incident off. That evening she leaves her meal untouched despite the miracles Chef Remsey can work with Potatoes and declines the offer of song to cheer her from Ellywick. Instead she asks the servants to draw a bath for her but the moment her foot slips into the water Aurelia suddenly recoils with terror. Quickly she rounds on the now equally terrified handmaidens, berrating them for the bath being the wrong temperature or some other clear excuse. Deciding instead on just retiring for the night. Sleep brings her no relief however, spending hours in the darkness tossing and turning with only a few fitful snatches of respite until finally she tosses the covers aside and stalks out into the manor's corridors. A few moments later she knocks on the door of another bed chamber before letting herself in. A single candle inside illuminates another woman, who sits crosslegged on a rug before the bed. Her appearence is much like that of Aurelia's, though it is recast with the slightly alien beauty possesed of elves. "Mother, I... [Mother]..." She switches from her native High Valmari into the Tarnellion tongue of her maternal family "[...I'm sorry to disturb your meditation but could we speak together?]"

Aurelia; what tides have washed you into my room at this hour Annathea ( she uses your Lirian child name and Lirian words are replete with phrases that reference the sea )? You have neglected me of late daughter; despite your appearances, you are your Father's child.
Aurelia's face is torn between pride at the comparison to her father and wounded at the accusation of neglect, she slumps to the floor and lays casually next to her more serenely posed mother,  idly looking at the minor decor alterations her elder has made of the room while she finds some words. " I am sorry you feel adrift from me mother, I thought I was following your advice. I suppose with the Roses accepting me and so many here offering to host me the winds sort of blew away from my course... anyway... what have you heard about, about what happened on Bael's Isle? "

Much as usual; the winds blow past my window after all. I hear you have been associating with Klieber. You do realise he is a member of the Hand? He has protected you in this matter, though be wary of him. His kind are as fickle as the storm winds of the Sea of Shale. There are many rumours flying around; but the one that is whispered is the one that I find most disturbing. There is talk of one of the Emperor's aides disappearing child. Tell me you have not departed on a journey like Tar' Nedra please (a reference to a Lirian story about an unwise mariner who followed rainbows)?

" Of course I know about Kleiber, Mother! " Aurelia declares, though since she had rather different suspicions on the man's secret status it probably doesn't fool the Lady Caelynn. " And look, I know what I'm doing it's just that... it's just that things got... they got... oh gods it was terrible mother..." Without realising it she begins to curl in on herself, making herself smaller as her voice breaks and her eyes begin to water. " I fought a demon my first day here, the first time I stepped on Maladon I fought against a fallen Avatar, I was nervous I admit but... but on that island I was terrified... did you know the rebels lead our ship into a trap? We hit a chain and it just broke apart, I jumped over board with the rest but I wasnt strong enough... the sinking ship - it pulled me down with it... I was going to die I think but Sharleen, she saved me... you remember the meadowlander woman who was locked in the hold on our way through the myst-tide? She saved me... then we landed on the shore and the rebels ambushed us, they attacked me..." Aurelia pulls her nightgown aside revealing a long nasty bruise running from her shoulder across her chest, vibrant purples and yellows marring the otherwise pale skin. She lets the garment fall back into place and then continues on in hushed tones. " If it wasn't for some of the others, and Sharleen again, getting in their way... they might have killed me then and there... In the morning we had to run to Baelsport, more of those fucking rebels- sorry mother.... there were more of the rebels and they were sacking the town. When we arrived and DeCoursey's knights sallied the cowards tried to plea. Now that they were outnumbered, now that it was they who were trapped... I wanted to kill them all, I wanted to punish them for what they'd done to the people there, and for what they did to me! I guess I got what I wanted though... The knights cut every last one of them down when they wouldnt agree to face judgement, even those that fell wounded and were helpless... after that I saw Lord DeCoursey, we talked for a while and then he asked me to help rescue his nephew who was held for ransom... I was tired of it all then but how could I refuse something like that? If I were in his place and if it had been you, or even if it were Vespan... Only there was no ransom Mother, his nephew is... he was... they wanted a stupid relic from that smug stupid Derrnson man who'd abandonned us at the battle. So I told him to just give it over but the fool wouldn't, he wouldn't! He was going to fight for it. I couldn't have cared any less for him, I wanted no part of it Mother I swear, I just wanted to go home but then the others... and Sharleen... she- the sword... He was going to kill them all as well and I couldn't let him, I just couldn't, mother! Especially when he started raving like a madman... So I... I... oh gods... but what choice did I have? "

My dearest Annathea ; you are fishing in dangerous waters and all around are predators. It is only a matter of time before they come for you too; if only to wring from you who was with you when you faced down the Imperials. You must be ready; these men are merciless, but if they think they can take a Donau nor yet a Lirian without a fight, they are very wrong!
" I came here to make the Empire proud of me! To bring glory to our name and to make them respect us . Now I must prepare to resist it? I never wanted to fight the Hand and the Avowed... although the way DeCoursey spoke has me thinking the Emperor's aides are somehow steering his course rather than he steering theirs... "
