[Card Decks] Discard Pile Disabled

If I don't enable the Discard Pile deck option, what happens to cards that are deleted off the table? Are they sent to the bottom of the deck? Are they randomly shuffled back in? Are they sent to Card Deck purgatory and only returned to the deck when I hit recall? Just hoping someone knows the answer to this question as I'm trying to adapt roll20 to an unusual game. Thanks in advance!

The discard pile basically functions as a second deck that lets players pull or pick up from.
The discard pile collects all cards which have been played and then removed from the tabletop (by deleting them), and all cards which are drawn but never played onto the tabletop or into a player's hand, are automatically added to the discard pile. These options allow you to determine how players may draw from the discard pile (by drawing only the single top/bottom card, or by choosing a card from the entire pile either by the back or face of the card).

If you do not have that option enabled, the cards should go back to the bottom of the deck unless you choose to recall with a shuffle.
