[Thanks for being patient with me, it was my first time using the roll20 system and honestly my first time actually getting to sit down and play an RPG with a group. Definitely good stuff.] Ever since his run-ins with the Miskatonic Legal Department, crime reporter Ennis Jones made sure to keep an eye for any crimes related to Miskatonic University. After one of his tipsters put him on to the murder of Professor Bakerfield, Jones slipped some cash lead detective McCutcheon's way to insure he could tag along on the case. Noting the strange mortuary-style murder of the professor, brackish water in a hair-clogged sink, and the late professor's notes regarding a recent archeology find (along with his penchant for spooky dolls), Jones had a sinking suspicion that the murder was more than meets the eye. Working with the detective to interrogate the late professor's secretary and investigate his office further, the two soon discovered a correspondence with between Bakerfield and a Mr. Waxford, who died a few days previously and may be tied to this mysterious archeology find and a large amount stock certificates from President FDR himself. Jones also remarked on the secretary's strange lapel pin: a red circle with an inlaid cross that had an extra armbar (or half a hashmark? Jones couldn't think of the best way to describe it.) The lapel pins were originally spotted on some mysterious figures outside the crime scene, and while there was no direct connection yet, as an expat Polish Jew watching the rise of the Nazi Party, Jones had many reasons to mistrust any secretive organization that rallied under possible mystic symbolism. Leaving the detective to trail the secretary, Jones rushed back to the paper's office to speak to his editor, Mr. Jameson. He warned Jameson that the murder could be bigger than anyone suspected and that running a full page story without all the facts could tip the hands of dangerous forces. Mr. J was fine with running a simple obituary for now and allowing Jones to continue to investigate, although while leaving the office he could be heard muttering about Jones failing to find him more stories that confirmed his fears of a rise of "masked vigilantes" and "spiders". Jones couldn't make heads or tails of that. Meeting back up with McCutcheon at the wake of Mr. Waxford, Jones learned that the secretary made reference to the Miskatonic Legal Department with regards to Bakerfield's estate, and noticed that many of the guests at the wake bore those red lapel pins. His paranoia got the best of him and he briefly accosting one of the departing guests about Waxford's death, scaring the man off. Jones lost sight of the detective and intended to interrogate Waxford's widow when he heard a gruesome noise and McCutcheon's distinctive footsteps chasing after it. He had no choice but to follow, but was not pleased to find that this would leave them to follow a bloody trail through dank basements. Trailing McCutcheon, Jones heard the man scream in fear and fire wildly at a hulking mysterious figure. Jones took action as well, firing and nearly hitting the person who appeared to be carrying the dismembered figure of Mrs. Waxford, before the shadowy hulk could flee behind a stone door, leaving the two men in the murk beneath Arkham with more questions than answers...
