[LFP] Gothic horror with Shadow of the Demon Lord (GMT)

A new-ish system? GMT timezone? Friday evening ? I know, if I wasn't so crazy I wouldn't be brimming with confidence either. Nonetheless I've had some success on that time and date in the past, so I figured what the heck.   It's pretty much exactly what you see on the tin. I'm looking at GM'ing a game of Shadow of the Demon Lord. I have one confirmed player already, but that means I'm hunting for about three to four more persons who'd be interested in a game with a much more Gothic/Victorian/Bloodborne slant to it than the traditional medieval sword 'n sorcery thing. SotDL's default setting 'kind of' leans towards this with things like firearms, clockworks and trains, but it's really inconsistent in whether it wants to be your typical late-Medieval setting or something with more steam to it. If I had a gripe with the setting as given, it would be that. As a result, this won't be set in the default Northern Reach or even the same planet, but similar themes of horror, approaching/ascending evil and things gradually getting worse will remain. With that in mind, I'm also not somebody who likes vomiting up several A4 documents worth of world lore for somebody to digest before they even know that they're interested. I'm going to blatantly use Bloodborne/Souls as an 'inspiration' (see: excuse) and leave things pretty vague and open enough for character concepts to work well enough without needing an extensive geography lesson and lore book smacking around the chops. With that being said, I'm looking more at rifles, pistols, greatcloaks and lanterns than I am full platemail and shields, but if somebody really wants to run with an old fashioned wannabe-templar (keep in mind the system begins at Level 0) or something I won't say "no" even if they're behind the times by a handful of years. The game itself will take place in a specific city/region that all of the PCs will be foreigners to and thus gives an IC and OOC excuse for not knowing every other street name, local custom, etcetera, etcetera. Before I ramble on further however, I'm tossing this out there to check for interest. This will, by default, text-only but if people want to ramble and discuss combat and such in a Skype call I'm open to that as well. I'm somebody who's going to be including combat, but I'm a huge believer in characters and actual, y'know, roleplay taking front and center rather than running between the next combat encountered.
GMT you say? What foul sorcery is this?! Though yes in all seriousness, I've heard of this game before, seen it's art splattered about the place, even read a little about it and just in general I can say with confidence it looks like just the kind of horrifying, blood-splattered thing that I'd be a bit too comfortable about slipping into. You'd have to be willing to put up with an absolute SotDL n00b trailing around in your party but I'm a fast learner and willing to learn! Honestly though, I'd say I'd have wanted to go with the kind of weird late-renaissance feel but then again also on that theme, not too long ago I was thinking that if I had to smash another dragon in the face with a hammer alongside an elf and a dwarf then I'd have to go and live in a cave, biting the heads off goblins but a fun GM and an interesting world later I'm back to swinging that hammer around like a madman so it's likely I also just plain don't know what I want until I have it! Plus it sounds like Darkest Dungeon and that means you're speaking my kinda language! The only things I really want to ask are A) the specific time it will be played, B) how often it will be played and C) so what medium will people be communicating through because I have to be honest, my interest in text-only games isn't always that high, I prefer the expedience of being able to use your voice rather than having to type everything out manually. Also I realise you said you'd be using text but I ask just for clarity in regards to when you were saying that people could use Skype to discuss combat.
Hey Calixis, My Names Mal and i'm also generally interested. Depending on the exact time/day will decide if i'm free or not but if i am free i am willing to commit. I have a general 90% attendance if i had to grade my self on my showy upness to these games. I have the SotDL rule book already purchased and have been wanting to try it out forawhile now but have never found or played. I have a working mic/camera even though i know your preference text i feel like its worth mentioning if  you decide or want to go otherwise. I myself am not a huge fan of text but i have no problem with it if thats the group preference.   RPG wise i've played alot of 3.5 and World of Darkness more lately which kind of combine for a Shadow of the Demonlord recipie if you know what i mean.  Anyway the point i'm super interested but need exactish(around) the start time your gunning for. Also i am In EST TZ but shouldn't be a problem. Thank you, Mal
Hey folks, thanks for posting your interest. To clear things up, the specific time that it will begin will either be 6pm or 7pm GMT. This may be shifted forward or back by an hour or so depending on the needs of the group. I try to run my games... generally for about three to four hours, though if people are content with doing role play between their characters that doesn't move them anywhere I've had people continue for more, even when I've left.  Right now, I'm looking at either weekly or fortnightly. Ideally, the former.  We'll likely be using Skype for communication.
what timezone of GMT, or GMT +0? (I only ask cause I'm GMT +10....)
