How do I get into a game?

I'm new to D&D and this site, anyone out there interested in helping me out? Looking to play D&D 4E or 5E. I have applied to many groups but they all seem to have several people already looking to join or I just never get a response. Not sure if I need to change somethings in my profile or no one is interested in taking on someone with no hours logged. Thanks for any suggestions or help.

Welcome to Roll20 :) To get kicked off right, I'd suggest watching our introductory video series, Introduction to Tabletop RPGs , which covers the general idea of how they are played, which game to choose and then find a group of fellow gamers. Secondly, for the Virtual TableTop itself we have a Tutorial that shows you how to use the various parts of the software. Additionally, starting your own test game to play with the controls is an excellent way of getting used to the software, and you really can't break anything I promise! Thirdly, check out the Looking For Group Tool and Looking for Group Forum daily for games that may be of interest to you. Fourth, we advise be sure to completely fill out your User Profile , which you've already done! Your Bio is where you have a chance to catch a GM's eye with a well-written statement about yourself Enjoys Playing is important for two reasons: Every entry you put here is a data-point for The Orr Group Industry Report of games being played, and it lets other people looking at your profile know a bit more about you Actively Seeks Group For is where you can add yourself to the Player Directory for systems you want to play We have a wiki that grows weekly and is very much worth exploring. Feel free to ask any questions you have about Roll20 by posting in the various sub-forums on their particular topics (Don't stress about putting topics in the right sub-forums, we mods really don't mind moving topics when needed!) Happy gaming!
Man I feel your pain, I have tried multiple times to get a game and I just get no responses myself. I kind of just gave up, I guess you just gotta keep trying and put yourself out there.

If you are not locked into D&D systems, have anyone tried other systems? I know that Savage Worlds is a fun system (I'm learning it right now) and there is a Savage Worlds (Hellfrost) game recruiting in the LFG forums (the GM has posted in the Savage World G+community also). Keep your mind open about other non d20 systems and give them a try.
Morbid if you ever want to get a game together I'm in. Maybe we can start a group and look for others to join? Still not sure what the best avenue is to get things rolling. Pat thanks for the suggestion I will look into Savage Worlds.

Sometimes the best way is to run a one shot with a simple system. You get to do a few things that way. Meet new people, learn a system if you don't know it, build a small group of gamers that you know and they know you so maybe one of them would run a one shot for you and the others. A gathering of strangers become a group of friends usually after some gaming.
Yeah its (online groups/forums) weird and a bit of a downer.  Google+ for example has over 1000 members in Marvel Heroic and when I joined i thought "GREAT!  Finally people who like what I like."  But then it turns out just the same 10 people post and the same regular group just keep to themselves.  So then one discovers Roll20!  Sounds Good!  Creating a community to alleviate the tedium of finding a group in real life due to location etc etc.  But its the same.  Everyone joins in hopes to game but no one wants to run or dive into the pool to meet people.  Si its back to maybe going to a con somewhere once a year to game,  And you play what they have, not what you want to do.  Joy.  More than likely, one goes back to video games for virtual fix.  Easier, faster, no waiting or begging.
I would love to eventually DM a game but without any experience I don't think that would go very well. Hard to get into a group without experience and can't get experience without getting in to a game. I get it though, running a game takes a lot of work and its hard to take on unknown people without proven game time. Hopefully I can find a one shot or two to gain some knowledge.

I have no experience with Savage Worlds but I got a group of random members together and we are on our 3rd session. I'm screwing up constantly but I'm constantly asking the players for feedback so I can learn. As long as you are open to your group that you have 0 experience and they are willing to help (not order or demand) then you will get the experience. You will learn by doing and have a greater appreciation of GM's when you get to play for all the work that goes into the game.
I've just recently joined a d+d 5e it will be my first game. they are looking for lots of players could try there. 1st game is on monday. game is called endless D+D game
Tony thanks for the heads up, I have not been able to find that group through find a group. Could you PM me a link or the person to contact it would be great to get into this game if its still taking players.

Tyler, I just sent you a pm with the LFG page link. Have fun and good luck.
I recommend making a LFG post reaching out to like-minded people that are new to the game and want to learn.  You nominate one person to be DM or take turns DM'ing while you all learn the ropes.  The ratio of players to DM/GM's is vastly weighted towards players, so it's usually much easier to get a game going if you're willing to dip your toes in and take a shot at running a game. Other than that, just be patient and persistent.  You will eventually get into a game; it just takes a lot longer if you aren't willing to run one yourself. Good luck, and welcome to Roll20.  8)
