RP: Wheat and Potatoes

Cain walks to the lower city when he hears of preparations to go to the Vale and finds himself at the doorstep of the Chanters hall and enters. He looks and asks around for Boon and when he finds him. Greetings friend, I hear you plan on making you way to the Vale then? This is good. I know before you wished to set up trade between our two cities and now they are sending in potatoes to us and can keep us fed but now we are able to use our wheat once again. I have vocalized this point to the Seneshal on the day you were not there but now that we have these potatoes and can grow them we have the upper hand in trade. We have wheat that I am sure they would like to try but they can not grow it for their lands can not support it. If we use this haven can make a lot of money. I think it would be a good idea as part of setting up the trade we could perhaps use this new found wealth to ease the taxes on the lower city perhaps reducing crime and strife all around. At the very least we could make sure that you and I get compensated for setting up the trade. Knowing your work and you knowing mine I am guessing it will be going to the same goal of helping the lower city just in our own ways. What do you say to this?

Boone gives the paladin a friendly clap on the shoulder and finishes packing away the services accoutrements to leave the hall in good order. " Ah, Master Cain! Little too late for the service it seems. Again! " He chuckles and continues " Aye you heard right though, I'm off to the Vale in a little while and hoping to establish some sort of proper official contact, get trade going through all official-like instead of this open-secret business. No good that, its proper honest open trade what tends to bring the most prosperity, and no bugger what's fat and prosperous wants to risk seeing it all set afire in a damn fool war, 'specially not one for some bloody far away nob who don't know a thing past his ego... Anyway! I like your wheat idea, you should come along and we should take a cartload with us, try and guage their interest. If they don't have it themselves they might well pay a good price for getting some. Never underestimate the benefits of a diverse diet afterall. I wouldn't say Haven has the 'upper hand' just yet though friend, it'll no doubt take a couple of years of experience before the farmers on this side of the Wall can grow those potatoes reliably. And in the meantime, from what I've heard, Bael's Isle ain't none too pleased with Haven... even before that business with the DeCoursey arsehole and those missing agents, if'n he gets it in his head the City's turned traitor then never mind the Rebellion, he'll embargo us himself I bet ."
Cain gives a smile at the last statement He serves the empire and putting an embargo on haven the empires foothold would be a fools move, anything of that sort would be treason. Although I do have to say I would not mind being the one to take up the offer of bringing him to justice. It may also benefit us on the way to see what is going on with that small community by the Maladon shore if we can somehow get a third source of food growing there it will be impossible for any enemy to choke the food supply without something short of blockading Haven its self. Also the problem goes for what company will take care of transporting the goods from haven to the Vale. The only group in good standing with the Vale currently is the Sashes but I do not know if they will be able to uphold sending these items with recent events. I personally would like to have the Suns handle this and yes this is a glory grab as I would still like to prove my worth to my company. The last option is the Dragons since they already handle the out of Haven guard jobs. The two cities will likely meet half way in this trade we just need to be the middlemen.
"Ah Cain, you know how the Empire operates. If DeCoursey starves out Haven and the Empire believes him they'll slap a title on him for good work and just refill the city anew at the next Myst Tyde. Emperors usually live a long time, they can afford to be patient. Anyway, this speculation will do us little good right now. Aye and it'll be good to look in on that little settlement, it'd be nice to see a couple more spring up along the valley mayhap too in the future. Though I fear what'd happen what with that damn spire and it's queer compunction still flaring in the nights, the people here don't have the protections the Valemen seem to possess. As for the company involved in transporting goods, your Suns might be a good bet but sadly so many of your brothers and sisters have passed on lately, could the company stretch to the task? Ah I know it's a sore thing for you my friend, I don't mean any offense in bringing it up... Anyway I would guess that it's a matter for the Seneschal and his council to decide not us. Perhaps it'd be best for no one company to have the whole cake to themselves anyway, just let everyone who wants to take it up do so, the city could still make a few coin off it by selling export liscenses and that might ease those taxes as you said"
Cain nods for a moment Although I hate thinking of people as numbers what happened was that we lost twenty of our brothers that sit around my rank there are still plenty of the lower ranks that would likely act as the foot soldiers for this anyways. It would be a good chance for the new men of my company to show their worth so we can start filling empty rooms. If we went this method and the suns can not uphold it all the time we could ask the Sashes to help out although they are not in the best of standing right now but this might give them the chance to come back as a company. A combined effort might be the best choice with the current losses of haven then. I just ask that we put my company at the top of the list for doing so.
"Well whoever takes up the task Master Cain, it's moot if the Vale ent interested. What do yuo think about taking a load of wheat grain up to em, maybe as a gift to their King Or Steward or whatever it was so's they can tell whether they want some or not. If they like it and want to trade for more of it and perhaps other goods we can bring their offers and terms back. I've got a few coin to spare if you want to split the cost 'tween us, eh?"

OOC: Idk how this is going to work but if Stephen will allow it I would like to jump back and set up the trade with the suns or others at the start of next session due to text RP being slow. Cain would have done so right after speaking to Boon. Aye, will do, as for taking an initial cart of wheat I will pay for this as well as some baker to teach them how to cook the crop properly, This first shipment will just be a gift but if they do give us coin for it I will make sure to split the gold correctly between us. I know your work here and do not wish to take any money from your cause. And here take this, Cain hands you a small ink vial that he had left over from the Bale's mission that was made. Let us use this to coordinate for I will be headding off soon with a new blood and Beldak to Hunters Inn to drop off something.
