3D Grid [Isometric]

Is it possible to utilise the grid tools for a map that is in a 3D format? i.e. the grid lines in the map are both running at 45 degrees from vertical/horizontal

You mean Isometric mapping? https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/3236596/isometric-maps-from-published-adventures

Here is a Wiki doc about the current Grid settings options, (square grid or hex grid), https://wiki.roll20.net/Page_Settings#Grid There is not currently a way to run Roll20's built-in grid lines at 45 degrees. One method you can do is import your own blank perspective-grid as a background image on the Map layer. Another method is to build your maps using Tiles that already have their own isometric grid overlay and perspective. For that 2nd method Roll20 offers some isometric pieces in the Marketplace, https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/search/?keyw...
Yes, I mean isometric maps. Obviously its easy to import a map in this style, but I wasn't able to find a way to rotate or adjust the grid in Roll20 to match the isometric format. As a consequence it means the measurement tools etc are not available, but I may just have missed it or it was not included in the tutorial.

The ruler tool would work in the cardinal directions, but not on diagonals. For this reason it helps to have the isometric "grid" on your map art because you can count squares to determine diagonal distances. What other tools are not available? Here are some informative and useful posts about Isometric maps in Roll20 and how to work with the grid options: Read the tips and Notes by Brian here first: (I recommend copying down this information, or save as a Handout in your game to reference later when making your maps) https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1571397/maps-rot... Here is a transparent grid (can be used as a background graphic or map overlay), https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1261/isometric-g... Plexsoup demonstrations of his isometric tile use in Roll20, NOTE: he turns the grid OFF, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxqFQChjAjs There are also some Suggestions on the Suggestions & Ideas board, for this kind of grid and Ruler measurement on the diagonals. Search for isometric under Suggestions if you can lend comments or a vote.
Well I was assuming that things like drawing lines and snapping them to the grid would also not work if the grid was not in the isometric form, plus how will the ruler tool work, because is that not liked to the grid in Roll20? Hopefully that all makes sense, typing questions is never the best ay to convey a message.

The drawing tool will work, if you choose to use snapping it will snap to the square grid. What sort of game are you playing? Are you wanting to draw the main map in roll20 with the drawing tools rather than importing it, or building it from premade isometric tiles?
At this point I am thinking about importing a map, but going forward it all depends on the options open to me and how each would work

I would encourage you to give it a shot. Maybe test out multiple methods and see what you like, then if you encounter specific issues you can ask in the forums for solutions. Starting a "new game" is free on here, and with no one in it except you, it's easy to test anything. Make 3 blank pages. On one page import an Isometric map (follow guidelines from previous links in this thread). On another page try drawing tools: Use SNAP for vertical lines but no-snap when drawing the diagonals (and perhaps use the blank Iso template grid for this one). On another page follow the instructions from Plexsoup's thread about how to import a regular top-down map and convert it to isometric (requires a graphics editor program). Let us know what works for you and where the challenges are!
