List of suggestions to cut down on GM and player frustration and/or boredom in a game. This list is a list of suggestions to help the GM and players in a game keep things running more smoothly without too much starting and stopping time and hold-ups to game progression. Following these suggestions helps to keep general order among players and provides respect to the GM in helping the GM to run a game smoothly: 1. Mute your mic when its not your turn/when the GM is speaking/when another player is speaking. 2. Do not interrupt if a GM is working on something with another player in game/explaining something to a player in game. Open discussion can occur when the GM opens the floor otherwise it just slows the flow of the game down, when you interrupt. 3. 1 minute (or less) rule for planning / describing actions in combat on your turn, if it takes longer than a minute to describe your action then that means according to our GM, that it takes too long to execute that action in a 6 second round. If you need time to figure out your action or have questions about it, hold your action until others go, or the GM will place you on hold so time can be devoted to your needs without holding everyone else up. This is just natural, someone pauses in combat to think things out, or they freeze in the spur of the moment and watch as the chaos around them unfolds. TIP: plan out your action (in your head please) before its your turn, be ready! 4. Free Actions - When your character speaks as a free action, it is limited to 6 words to keep things simple and fast. One word a second or less with enough time to still wave hands etc. If your character needs longer to express them-self in combat to other characters, its now a Full Action and -2 penalty occurs on any remaining action to be completed on your turn. 5. When the party is split, do not interject on what the other half of he party is doing, your character is not there so you technically should not know what is happening in their split screen. If a player is not sure what to do for an action, they should ask the GM if its ok to get other player input to ensure that this form of meta-gaming is GM-permitted. If you are helping another player, focus on what that player's character skill set is for suggestions. 6. Do not spam the chat in game, dice roll results might get lost in the shuffle. 7. When the GM is giving game info, or your party is in the middle of a task, keep the off-topic chatter to a minimum. Save that for idle times/down times in-game between battles, or when the GM is not giving crucial game info to players. NOTE from a GM: At the end of the day, RPG games are for fun. These rules keep things moving and fun for everyone. The worst thing that can happen to a player is to not even get to take their turn due to time delays, interruptions etc. Be respectful to each other and enjoy playing!
