Orange Grove Insight
Orange Grove is a fair-sized community, unknown to most not from the area, located on the bank of the Orange River. The river was given this name due to the uncommon type of silt on the riverbed that glows orange in the sunlight. This casts an orange tint to the water. Orange Grove is located in an area known to most as the "Crime Belt." In the country of Perdonia, the people are ruled by a monarchy, located at the center of the country. Naturally, your outer edges of society tend to be the birthplaces of cruel and hideous criminals, or creatures. Orange Grove is an agricultural-based town, whose main crop is pumpkin. Every year, after harvest time, the town holds a festival known as the "Festival of Orange". The citizens paints their buildings orange, hang up orange decorations, and wear orange clothing. There are multiple pumpkin dishes that the townspeople indulge upon, and they hold the annual pumpkin judging contest. With the river being an orange glare upon the town, along with the orange-tinted haze that paints the town, it always seems to be on fire this time of year.
In Orange Grove, the population is a mix of many different races and personalities. It doesn't have as many as your huge metropolises do, but this small town is culturally diverse. The main population is half-elf, followed by human, then dwarf, halfling, then lastly, a small group of pure elves. The town has a great need for hunting, done in the nearby woods, so many of the townspeople specialize at being rangers and trackers, etc. Although the town is on the edge of civilization, it receives its fair share of bard visits. Orange Grove is located on a very long, forgotten road that connects two major cities in the country of Perdonia.
In town, there are a few notable places of interest. One being The Amorous Lady, the only inn located in the town. Another would be the Bag of Books, run by the gnomes in the community. Also, there's the Huntsmen's Lodge, where game is tagged, bagged and butchered. Many hunters share their stories and experiences while in the wild. The Hunters' Society is centralized here. And lastly, the Mighty Warhammer run by the Dwarves who inhabit Orange Grove.
Surrounding Orange Grove is the mighty Round Wood Grove, named from forming a circle around the small town. A popular spring, Fox Spring, runs through the heart of the woods. If ever you get lost, "follow the fox to find your way home" is what the locals would tell you. To the north of town, Jagged Boulder Plains is home to a group of native half-orcs who were drove here upon the town's settling. This group of orcs have always posed a threat to the town, and have occasionally organized raids when the tribes weren't fighting each other. To the east of town is the great Lashbrook Lake. This lake is 10 miles wide and 15 miles long. It is home to many different creatures and a water-source to many more. The woods around Lashbrook make a great site for a camp to be set up, or even a settlement if the woods could be cleared out. West of Orange Grove is Gilcral Mine, in common, " Glittering Hall." Recently discovered by the Dwarves, many of the mine still lay undiscovered. Tales of glistening jewels and loads of precious ores are talked about throughout the town and surrounding areas, attracting miners, prospectors, and many unwelcome guests. It provides a new source of income to the town, who is using the money to build up a stronger militia.
