The party delivers the black journal to Lady Kath's people. It takes several days to decipher, but once the code is broken, the whole story is revealed: Tristan Kath attended Ebon Hand ceremonies for months, participating in loathsome rituals of increasing perversity, until he finally took the final step. He underwent something the Journal calls the Gifting, in which he was "blessed" with cloven hooves. Shortly thereafter, he began to reconsider his devotion to the Hand. Or perhaps he just grew bored, as young nobles do, and decided to seek out some new excitement. Whatever the case, Galleck Javimal, the high priest, got spooked that Tristan would leak the secrets of the cult or use his family's influence to shut them down. He hired an assassin to murder the boy. The journal also reveals what happened to Jonas and Justin. The Ebon Hand has been kidnapping young people and using a powerful magical ritual to transform them into what they call “Children of the Hand”. This is part of their plan to bring the Gift of Deformity to everyone; the young men were test subjects, to see if the Gift could be forced upon an unwilling subject. Justin did not survive the procedure; Jonas did, but was driven insane. Galleck had plans to try again with Fennis in the next few days. Devina Kath is glad to know the truth, even if it doesn't paint her nephew in the most flattering light. She thanks the party, and swears to track down every last member of the Ebon Hand cult, to bring them to justice. Unfortunately, in the time that it took to decipher the journal, most of the cultists escaped, so that will take time. In the interim, she shows her gratitude by speaking for you to the Anestral Council; any of you who are willing are now considered Citizens of Anestral and Residents of Anestral City, with all attached privileges. The papers that Yolotomassi grabbed are mostly notes on religion, history, magic, and other esoteric subjects, some written in Galleck's cipher. Many come across as the ravings of a madman (as does most of the journal). There were also two potions of cure moderate wounds, four divine scrolls (Desecrate, Invisibility Purge, Magic Circle Against Good, and Chaos Hammer) and a strange diagram (below). The sacks contain a total of 1800 gold coins. The entire party gains 2,000 XP Jack ⇚ Infiltration The Lurker at the Threshold ⇛
