Rodar's Debrief

The Causeway Assault  1st Lt Eddard, REF Naval Fleet, Tristar Liberation I was presented with the difficult task of collating data on the blunted Assault push to secure Causeway 319, leading to the Capital Tracialle.  Tactically the Causeway would allow us to create supply lines for resistance units within the city.  What follow are the notes from my interview with Rodar the Karbarran. Right so I don’t know what you want me to say, I haven’t done one of these “ Debrief” report things before.  What, so you’re just going to sit there and take notes while I talk?  Then we are going for these beer drinks that the Humans keep talking about right?  Ok then I’ll talk. So we’ve just managed to get the cubs free and to a safe area for pick up.  The Resistance managed to organise fast after a couple of radio calls, some cargo transports were redirected and used to extract the cubs to safety.  Risky move maybe, but as they weren’t easily identifiable it was a better option than waiting for a military solution.  Anyway I’ve had word that they have been taken to several separate safe locations, don’t know where and I probably wouldn’t tell you anyway.  The Invid have eyes everywhere, we Karbarrens just can’t risk the future of our race like that. So this Section Commander Grant, arrives and there’s pats on the back for Xander and his team.  Military seems happy about how the assault is progressing, there is some talk about The big picture and where the front line isBlah Blah Blah.  Lots of talk , not enough splatting Invid Slug men. Then kinda like Dad heard my thoughts for more war, the assault against the capital city starts to go wrong.  A second tier combat unit of rookies is set the task of securing one of the main causeways that link the planet and would have allowed access to the capital city and hive.  They run into more than they can handle and we have to haul their butts out of the fire.  Though for a minute there I thought that Xander was not going to let the Resistance fighters and myself join the crew, he sent some of his own people back to rest up and repair.  Well that, and they weren’t kitted out for battle, not like a Karbarren at all. So we enter an on ramp down to the Causeway, apparently these resemble your human freeways, just larger and built to a higher standard by true craftsbears.  Oh and they are underground, there is that too.  There has been a lot of damage done, hateful Invid have been wrecking the place, lots of structural damage, kinda like they want to bring the tunnel down.  Strangely some of the collapsed earth has partially reviled a cave tunnel entrance, Triggers something in my memory but I can’t put a paw on it, we press on. All the lighting has gone out, we have to use thermal and infrared to see.We come up on the Human mecha and they are really messed up.  Huge machines, massive these Destroid things and something has turned them into maggot bread.  There are holes everywhere in them and the legs have been shot out from under them, pilots are stuck inside.Venton who has commandeered an Archon, senses the invid are close and next minute the place is swarming with Inorganic Cougars these things are fast and they rush forward to tear the pilots from their cockpits of their downed mecha. I’ve got to give it to these REF Marines, they can shoot, and by the Great Craftsbear their machines have firepower!  I bail out of the Archon with two of the other Resistance fighters and try to lay down Ion Rifle fire.  I’m proud of my pack mates, we bagged a kill today.  So with the weight of fire, and stunning marksmanship the Cougar are quickly dispatched.  We move forward to assist in trying to free the Humans from their mecha.  The Pack and I manage to drag one limp human from his wrecked cockpit, his machine is almost unsalvageable due to the damage it has sustained.Xander proves to us that he has been built differently to use and the humans, he single headedly wrenches the cockpit open on a Crusader. The humans see to their wounded while Ventom removes the Flight Data Recorders (something to do with their Mecha’s brain, records everything that it sees and does). One of the wounded Pilots starts having a talk to Xander about “ Classified Mecha, Prototype, Enemy Hands ” and stuff. The Marines decide to plant explosives in their machines to destroy them, I don’t understand that logic, must be a cultural thing to give their machines a funeral? So we are all messing around when Ventom senses the invid again, I’m glad that he can, but damn that creeps me out.  So we scramble for cover, just in time too as a formed block of Odeons marches down the causeway towards us!They target Ventom and Garret in the Archon, their Lasers gouging great furrows into its hull. The Marine return fire is brighter than the forge fires of Formicarium , you would thing that nothing could survive that sort of damage!  Yet The Odeons yet keep striding through the Plasma fire and damage, I’ll admit I was concerned. Xander spotted a command unit hiding behind the enemy lines, and struck it with a stream of mini missiles.Moments later the Invid lost cohesion and appeared to become stupefied.  The team despatched the remaining Odeons and Garret out rookie went overkill and fired all of his missiles accidently collapsing the Causeway roof. Can’t be too hard on the kid I suppose, he fought well today. So We had to back out of the tunnel and that’s about all that happened. No nothing else happened, why? I don’t care if my report doesn’t match up , why should I.  I don’t work for you so NO I DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS! Year ok, let’s go have some of these human Beers that the crew keep talking about.
1st Lt Eddard, REF Naval Fleet, Tristar Liberation Ok so thank god I recorded our drinking session.  My head is hurts like hell.Karbarrans can drink, they can drink a lot!  But their society don’t have the tolerance to alcohol that we do, I’m rambling this is a transcript of last nights events.  Christ I’m going to be sick again! …Garbled noise as Lt Eddard fumbles with the recorder… I’ve been approaching this all wrong, going to try and break the ice with Rodar and the freedom fighters over drinks and see if I can win their trust.  Not sure how this will go, I’m scared shitless that if I piss him off he will crush me!Going to ask Xavior along as back up in case I make a cultural blunder and to take me to the medic is this goes poorly. …More Fumbling noise, clicks and bad sound editing… Any what that’s the story of Mike Fucken Rowe, one of our greatest workmen from human history and hero of our people. He could arm wrestle five Zentraedi with his little finger only. He could…. …Drunken statements, boasting, numerous shouts for more beer… You Karbarrens wouldn’t have any hero’s that could match up to Mike Rowe!Drunken laughter. ...Rodars voice drunk and gravely... Well we do have a story of a hero to our people. But unlike your hero ours avoid violence despite their monumental strength.  Technical skill, Artistic prowess, Manual labour, Strength of body, Strength of Character, these are the traits valued by my people.  Every Karbarren should aim to embody these traits, yes I lost my way and I my father Norwood was forced to pay the debt for my failings once we returned to our birth planet, our home.  The price was too high, however my slate is clear and I shall keep it that way! …Mumbled sorrowful toasts to fallen Karbarren pack members… …The dialect translator battles to define several Karbarren words here, lots of gibberish word examples play across the screen, finally it selects three… The Master [INSERT WORD DESCRIPTION HERE] (Crafts Father, Forgebear, He of the long tooth) I suppose that would be the closest approximation in your tongue.  Every cub learns of these stories long before we lose our milk teeth.  They supposedly originate from the early days of our peole… …Conversation devolves into a drunken argument between the Karbarrens as to the origins of the story,Xavior is heard subtly redirecting the conversation back on track. One of the Freedom fighters takes the lead and continues the conversation… Ok so there are many stories, one of them tells of the [SEE PREVIOUS NAME DESCRIPTIONS] being frustrated with the leader of one (Mayor?) of our capital cities.  The [Crafts Father] saw inefficiency, he saw complacency, he saw inaction over the maintenance and care of our structures, he saw all of this and was sad. The Mayor of the city was a lazy Karbarren know to have others do his work, and he was cruel to those people, treating them without respect.  The [Forgebear] saw the Mayors behavioral traits spread like rust, as others mimicked this behavior.  [Forgebear] did not anger, though he gravely disappointed in our people. “They have lost their way for they have a bad teacher.  Their teacher has lost his way for he has forgotten what it is to be Karbarren”. That night while all rested, the [Long Tooth] sent forth his mechanical workers.  Crafted from the finest alloys by paw, these were the [Long Tooth's] children, for he had fathered none.  The workers moved, without sound, to the Mansion of the Mayor and his keepers. With the dawn of the next day, our people arrived to the mansion of the Mayor to be assigned work. With horror our ancestors discovered that the entire building was encased in bronze! …The other Karbarren freedom fighter, takes the lead on the story as his pack mate falls into a drunken sleep…. Our ancestors discovered the bronze walls etched with the finest Karbarren script. The script listed the wrong doings of the Mayor and his Keepers to our people, however it also explained a code of conduct by which our people should live and work.  It warned that none were to interfere with the house of bronze, lest they be judged and found wanting in their duties to our people.  The People found this to be fair, though they dismayed at the fate of the Mayor and his Keepers, for their fate was unknown. On the forty-fourth minute of the fourth day of the forth month, an Apprentice shipsmith was paying his respects at the house of bronze when he discovered a hole in one of the walls.  While he watched the hole became larger and larger until a massive paw pushed its way through and the bronze wall was bent outward as a figure forced its way out.It was the Mayor!  He was quickly followed by every one of his Keepers! The Apprentice was in shock!  This looked like the Mayor and the Keepers, however they were huge! Muscles rippled under their fur, and their claws were worn down to their paws!  The Apprentice was terrified and fled to gather the people.  The people of the town returned fearing the worst, the Evil Mayor had returned and was hugely strong, would he punish the people? On arriving the towns people found the Mayor reading the script etched into the bronze walls of his prison, he was weeping openly as he read.  The Mayor read of the wrongs that he and his had done unto our ancestors and knew great shame.  He told the people of the city the horror of finding himself entombed within his opulent mansion with no escape. The [Forgebear] had inscribed into the floor of his room technical instructions on how to escape the confines.  The Mayor was forced to fast for many days and work harder than he ever had before in his life, test after test he was required to pass as he progressed from sealed room to room.  Along the way he freed his keepers one by one and they were forced to cooperate and work as a team to pass the remaining tests the [Crafts Father] has placed before them, earning food and tools as they progressed. The Mayor fell to his knees and begged forgiveness from the people of the city and it was granted.  The mayor resigned and went forth to teach apprentices at our trade schools.  As for the Keepers some followed the Mayor whilst others beset with guilt set out to beg forgiveness from the [Crafts Father] personally. ….There is a loud crash, Xaviors voice can be heard “I think perhaps that you have had too much to drink Eddard.I don’t know if you can understand what I am saying but I’m taking you to the medic, you may have alcohol poisoning” ….
