Rusty GM needs game call advice

Ok there are monsters and situations that make it possible to fight and defeat the same monster several times (for example a vampire) Do I A. with hold xp till the monster is truly destroyed or B. give some or all the xp each time the pcs defeat but not destroy the monster?

This is probably more suited to other gaming specific forums outside of roll20... (reddit) I would award partial XP if a party did sufficient damage to make the creature flee/disable, but total XP would only be awarded for destroying it.  I would also consider total XP(or more) if a party was very creative in their methods for dealing with an encounter.  Killing doesn't always have to be the solution, right?  ;-P
Depends on the situation, sometimes I would reward full XP for avoiding  the foe, if it is done in a clever or creative way. Especially if they find a solution to a problem that wows me. Slipping past the guards rather than killing the guards makes for a better story.
You can always go with Story based XP and award based on the advancement objectives of the story. A lot of published adventures do this only giving out the xp at the end of a chapter in the story.  That way they can meet the BBG a few times and not really be out any XP.
