Hi, and thanks for reading this! I'm an avid reader of epic fantasy series such as Malazan Book of the Fallen, A Song of Ice and Fire, Wheel of Time, Lord of the Rings, Kingkiller Chronicles etc... and have come to the conclusion I'd likely enjoy playing a RPG, especially as my favourite series (Malazan) was based on gaming sessions between the author and his friends. So, I've done a fair bit of reading online guides, watching hours of youtube videos guides and gameplay videos (to get a handle on what a session plays like), and think that I'm about ready to give it a bash. Having originally warmed to the idea of being a character inspired by Kellanved/Shadowthrone (from MBotF), I quickly realized playing a slightly insane (Chaotic Good?), illusionist would probably be a stretch for my first-time playing, and may lead to lots of headbutting with a GM/DM regarding my use of illusions etc and how they effect the world and the story, so I'm shelving that idea until I have a firmer grasp on game mechanics etc... I have a different character concept in mind (a Seguleh-inspired Fighter), but I didn't want to go ahead and create a character before finding a GM and group. I also figured whoever does end up helping me and GM-ing, they may well have particular requisites for characters in their gameworlds, so it's probably best to wait... My motivation in wanting to play is more of an experiential-thing, rather than a desire to be a kill-all, win-everything style character, hence originally wanting to be more of a battlefield controller, trickster-style, somewhat mad, illusionist. Having read further guides, I do understand that I should be approaching gameplay with the attitude of enriching the experience, not 'winning' it, or dominating it. FWIW, I'm 32, English speaking and running on GMT, with a pretty flexible schedule (Wednesday evenings can be busy). At the moment I'm looking to play a few one-off sessions, or a short campaign, to see if RPGing and Pathfinder is something I want to commit to playing properly with a group for an extended period. I look forward to hearing from some of you soon...
