Text only

Hi there! I think I might be interested in joining a text only D&D 5E group sometime but.. when I went looking around some groups have 30+ people and I'm not sure how that works. o.o So my questions are, how can you D&D with so many people? Does text based make it quicker/easier? And do people type out paragraphs like forum RPing? Is that why there are so many people? Is the game just open all the time and people 'post' something when it's their turn? That might be interesting.. Thanks in advance!

Many of the groups that have 30+people are a type of club where text only players get to hangout and put their recruitment posts up in a less competitive forum than in the main community forum here. This due to text only games are a minority type of gaming style that usually get pushed off page one relatively fast. Text based gaming is slower than voice but it can be seem more immersive to players. Some games do the paragraphs but it usually is only a sentence or two just like in voice games. There are a few types of text style gaming. The forum posting of paragraphs is usually known of Play by Forum Post or just Play by Post. There is also Asynchronous Text games which is just a text game that plays with the GM not required to be there all the type. Some games have that many people playing. LFG search for text games . ---edit--- Some of the games listed in the LFG search are living world games which function along the lines of asynchronous text games.
