Hide or move token bars while still pointing to value on character sheet?

Hello, all; I'd like to use the tokens for my game to track some values on the character sheets that have both current and max values, but I find the bars fairly unsightly; can they be hidden, or at least moved to underneath/beside the token? Without setting that bubble/bar not to point at the sheet, I mean -- I know that not inputting a max value results in no bar being shown, but being able to change the bubble value and have it update the sheet is very convenient. The only way I've been able to think of to do this is to alter the character sheet itself so that the current and max values are different attributes, so the token can track current without having a max value automatically populated, but I'd have to be a pro subscriber to edit the sheets.

You can edit the advanced token properties to hide the bars from your player's view, but as the GM, you will see all bars that include a max value.

Hi Kerredai, Yes you can accomplish this. Use the "Attributes" section to add a new Attribute (for example "ThisIsMyHitPointsWithoutTheMax"), Give the Attribute a value (without a max) and then use the Token settings to set that Bar for the new Attribute that you created. The Token will now NOT show a bar (even to GM) but if you click the Token there is a bubble to add-or-subtract from that attribute (score). In this way, you do NOT need to customize the Character Sheet itself. Continue using your favored Character Sheet. Adding a new "Attribute" is similar to adding a new field on a Character Sheet, in fact the Character Sheet is composed of many Attributes which you will see already populated on the character's Attributes tab. I just went into one of my games and tested to confirm, this method works. If you have questions, ask again. Thanks for replying -- cool to know you can add new attributes, that'll be handy for making macros! The reason for wanting the token to point at an attribute in the first place, though, is just to keep the sheet up to date -- to continue your example, if I set up ThisIsMyHitPointsWithoutTheMax and end up taking fifteen off it (ouch!), the Hit Points field on the sheet won't update to show the damage because it displays the HitPoints attributes, not ThisIsMyHitPointsWithoutTheMax. So that doesn't help any with bookkeeping, and I'd rather have easy bookkeeping than prettier tokens. If I could edit the sheet, I could just make HitPoints and HitPointsMax different attributes and have the bubble reference HitPoints, but alas. Maybe I'll spring for the Pro account again; I had one a few months back when I was running some Eclipse Phase, and getting to customize the sheets was handy. (Vince, I appreciate the answer, but it'll still display for the controlling player unless I take away their edit privileges, and keeping their numbers up-to-date in combat is their job; it'd certainly work if I were willing to track their Essence for them, though!)

I started experimenting with rectangle tokens to make them "prettier". The only issue is that you cannot scale them up or down in size. You have to make them at the size you want or else the Roll20 bar doesn't line up properly.
That's a cool idea! We're playing Exalted, so I wasn't planning to use a grid, but if I ever get that Torchbearer game off the ground I'll definitely have to remember that!

In that case -- Have you thought about leaving-blank the HP Max on the Character Sheet? If you record their Max HP in a different field (whether it's under Notes or next to their Class or Alignment or whatever), just write MAX HP: somewhere else on the sheet for your record-keeping purposes. Keep their current HP as the "Value" of their HP (nothing in the Max slot), and keep the Bar associated to HP. Bar won't show on token this way, and Character sheet HP will adjust when you add/subtract HP from the token's circle.

Wait, you're playing Exalted? What attributes have a max value that you're trying to use for your bars? The Ex2 sheet uses max for essence pools and as a hack to zero out radio button groups for attributes & abilities. The Ex3 sheet uses max for essence pools and spent/accumulated XP.
Yeah, we're playing Ex3 and I wanted to have the bubbles track Personal and Peripheral Essence, since that seemed like a convenient thing to be able to change quickly in combat.
