hopefully i dont sound all needy and demandy, these are just the things i prefer, it makes the game more fun for me, and i feel like for others too, hopefully. Im pretty experienced with 5e, and homebrew is best imo. i like a healthy mix of RP and combat, where combat can be, but is not always, dictated by the RP. a random bandit raid wouldn't make sense in a mermaid forest, but if you're on a road thats literally called "BANDIT ROAD DEAR GOD DONT GO HERE" and some bandits attack, well, that makes sense. or, theres a character who's a mean drunk in a bar, and the characters continue to purposefully or accidentally agitate them and then a bar brawl breaks out. where if the characters hadn't interacted with them, there wouldn't have been a fight. i really like a long term game with a continuous story (different arcs obviously but, following the same group in a linear time frame) and i like DM's who are really into character backstory and character development. and who are really into the homebrew worlds they create. i like to have maps and stuff, but theater of the mind obviously is a must. going around to individual shops obviously would be theater of the mind, but when in a nondescript forest or in a really specific important temple, i dunno i just like to have maps.
