LFG of a grand story about heroes, plot and all that fun stuff

Why is it so hard to find a good game of Tabletop RPG about a plot meant for people to play characters that will eventually become heroes. Stories like Fire Emblem, Bleach, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of Caribbean, no one seems to want to do those as an RPG. I've been seeing a lot of "character driven" stories but that doesn't work, characters are a catalyst of change, whether it be good or bad, players will change something about the world the GM has presented. Now I am not one for heavy dungeon crawl, I like combat but a story that is nothing but dungeon crawl (like elemental evil from 5e) is not a fun story. Stories keep us on the edge, get us excited for adventure, scared by big bad guys and the feels when an NPC princess is taken away. Is there a game that is like that, a game of heores with a swell GM, with a swell plot and swell players who I can talk to after the game about random bullshit and have fun working together in an RPG. As a side note, why do players play edge lord loners, it makes no sense, this is a social game so why make a character who hates the party? Anyways, PM me, the sytem doesnt matter but highly prefer d20 systems and the time schedule is open
To answer your question, because such games are hard to do with out railroading. It is a fine line. At any rate, good ,luck and good gaming.

I think that my AD&D 2E game is an epic story inspired by the tone of the ones you mentioned . However it has taken us 14 months so far, playing every week on Roll20 at around 4 hours/week, and we are half-way through the epic plot arc. The party is around 6th-7th level. So it's not coming-out nearly as fast as a 12-hour LOTR movie binge. One of the characters was just appointed to the executive governmental role of Margrave. It is a mix of Homebrew and modules, and they completed the entire U1 - U2 - U3 module series from TSR UK (Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh adventures). Then they united 6 armies and overtook an evil underwater fortress. That was all before 4th level. Christopher , I'll send you a message if a spot opens up for this. Also I would recommend putting your game-style preferences in your Roll20 Profile bio section.
Railroading is completely fine, players want to be railroaded, they claim to want free realm, but nah, they want to be told where to go because they won't know what to do or where to go, that's why we have questions givers
Save Princess MacGuffin!

There are other systems better suited to playing heroes and telling stories. D&D isn't one of them. D&D is a game for dungeon crawls, and saving the village from orcs and bandits. If you want a game about story and becoming heroes, play Fate, Exalted, Legends of the Wulin, Legend of the Five Rings, Double Cross, or any game that places an emphasis on narrative, rather than killing enemies and getting loot. Any system that rewards you for killing enemies is going to be a poor fit for a story about heroes, especially like the ones you want to emulate. They don't go about slaughtering hundreds or thousands of creatures - they fight their opposition when necessary, and do so with a heavy heart. Also games about 'being heroes' doesn't necessarily mean that they are - sometimes being a hero has consequences, and sometimes, those stories are more interesting than "I possess the power of MacGuffin X, Empowered by Being Y" stories, where the heroes always win. It's about knowing the audience, and finding the right group of players who want to indulge in the jRPG/Shounen fantasy tropes.
Stories can be told using any system really, the system is nothing but a framework to resolve conflicts and actions. The backdrop, the motivation and drive given to the characters to become something more is something the GM provides. But the players have to take the hook from time to time and allow the GM to reel them in with the drama of loss and gain. I dont have any openings in my game right now but feel free to read our forums and we just started twitching as we all had not have video record of our adventures. But if my game interests you I my be starting another in the near future. https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/1346557/c...
