Player LFG DND 4E

This would be the first time I've interacted with total internet strangers since my days of heavily playing MMOs as a kid, so I'm a tad apprehensive. These days it's mostly Xbox Live with my friends. Anywho, I've been itching to play with a veteran DM and other players. Up until now, I have either been a player with a group of other complete new players, or a DM with new players. It occurred to me that I know very little about being a player, as I have never been able to "practice" it. I'd like to start from level 1, for sure. The campaign isn't a big deal for me, I'm just itching to play with some more experienced people and other newbs alike. I'm generally free every afternoon, though I'd prefer to play on a weekend.
Hey Ted, me and my friend are very familiar with the game however cannot have a game at home, hence why we are on here haha. But we are not really confident with being the DM yet, so if you do find one, we'll be more than willing to join ya!
I also posted on a LFG subreddit, where two people mentioned they would like to play. One says he's experienced and can handle being DM, but would prefer to play.
I am not new to D&D, being that I'm old but I am new to Roll20. I have a lot of experience DMing and would be interested in helping you guys out. However when we would play would be important. I can play every other Sat. Morning. (actually run a couple games at local shop.) Most comfortable in 4E but have done 3.5 and am playtesting D&D Next.
That actually sounds great! I am okay with every other Saturday, as well. It seems like often enough to get things done, but not enough where it may become a chore.
So what next since like I said I'm new to the system, how many can make it Saturday to play, about 11am EST?
I'll refer those two people on reddit to this thread. I know roll20 pretty well, and it's pretty simple. I can contact you with my skype so we can get this organized, I guess?
Hey there! I was told to come here from the Reddit post, I would love to join in on this! And this is also cool sense I DM a 4e game Saturday at 5pm, so it's like a full day of gaming! I was wondering if I should repost what I said there, on here, but I'm w1kk3d, and I'd love to play!
If you guys still have room on saturday I'd love to join! I've only played one 4e game but picked up everything pretty fast and it was fun as hell.
Okay, we actually don't have any firm numbers yet. Being new to how all of this works I assume I need to get firm number of people. Since none of us know each other I could through a couple quick encounters together for say level 5 Characters (I believe that's a good starting point for 4e) as soon as this Saturday. Probably an abbreviated game but who knows. Plan to play 11-2or3 est. I believe what I do then is send you an email invitation to play and we all end up in same room.
There already is a video component to the Roll20 software correct?
Webcam or you mean embedding a video into our playspace?
I'd be into playing as well if there is space. I've only done one game though.
I'm quite interested in joining as well! Pm me please! I'm quite experienced in 3.5, and have a fair bit of experience in 4E! I'd love in on this group!
Hello, I am quite interested in joining this game. Have played a few games. Very excited to play! (This is Let_The_Goat_Out)
Hey eveyone! I am totally down to jump in on this with you asap! I have moved 3000 miles away from my group and just have been dying to play my latest 4th edition character. I think lvl 5 is also a great place to start! I am also free on saturdays but am in CALIFORNIA so i'd need something where i can either jump into or start a little later in the mornings. this would also be my first roll20 experience so it'd prob be a little shaky at first but im sure we can all figure this out together! Thanks and i cant wait to hear more!
If we are still doing 4e 5th level. What are your guidelines for making the character?
Also, I have another person ready to go on that night if we happen to be short.
Okay, Its probably a good idea since none of us know each other and since I'm DMing to give you some details. First about what requirements their are for your character. 5th level with level appropriate gold. Also since I usually use the "Character Creator" on the Wizards web site I just have everyone click on the "equip button" and they give you starting gear. From that I salt the campaign with lots of gear and such. I'm of the mind the more cool stuff you get the more fun it is to kill stuff. As to the type of Character meaning race or class, everything is open. I take the view that this is not a game of competition between the DM and the players but a joint mission to tell a great story while living it out togehter. so what ever you want to bring to the game is fine with me. So I the next thing I want everyone to tell me is what kind of Character you're bringing. This will help your fellow players. Because some players want to make sure they fill in needs rather then in love with one class or race. It also leads to a well rounded party.
Now, let me know about my DM style. I'm a story trumps rules kind of guy. If someone in the midst of the game that I didn't anticipate and I think is brilliant I'm not going to let a single roll of the die destroy brilliant role playing. Its my job to write a good story and make it challenging without making it impossible to get through. Not that I haven't thrown in a APK (all party kill) from time to time, with a way to come back of course and as part of the story. If we simply want to kill things all of us can get on Skyrim and kill things, DnD should be about interesting with each other and enjoying the experience of the story that becomes unique because we lived through it together. So if you can live with this philosophy I'm happy to DM.
Coby I don't have a problem with you joining late, its up to me to bring you into the story as long as its okay with the rest of the group. We already have someone here who says they have a game at 5pm EST so I don't think we can start much later.
The Following people have expressed interest: Ted T. Bryce Clemens Dylan Pendrak Kamiztheman Twowo Emilio D Suleimane Coby B. That would be 8, my home game has grown as big as 10 but that was hard to do. Being new at this I wouldn't want that. 8 I would say is about the limit. So at this point you are all invited and please comfirm so that I know how to seed the adventure.
The Adventure will be, "Death in a Small Town". Keep in mind I use the DnD world but I'm not as well versed in all of the "official lore" of all of the realms and things. Kind of write my own stuff.
After a little of exploring I realize that I need everyone's e-mail address if I'm going to invite you to the party. I looked at a couple of profiles and didn't see the e-mail addresses so you'll have to message me your e-mails I guess, that is one way to know for sure you're going to be there.
FearlissShadow@yahoo.com I'd love to play a dwarf warrior! Saterdays are awesome for me, you said EST right?! That's perfect :3 I DM a America at 5pm EST so it's two hours of prep time. My Saturdays are going to be filled with total awesomeness!
I'm planning on bringing a Gnome Bard, if that is fine And here he is: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=479565
Tom, I shot you a PM about the situation.
I PM'd you Tom. I will be playing a Goliath Thaneborn Barbarian.
Okay, I guess I don't have to have your e-mail as one of you told me. Those that PM'd me I have already sent a link to you with a reminder of the time. Love the Gnome Bard by the way currently play a Pixie Bard in my home game.
I really don't get the PMing system on roll20. I've been here for a little while and it still confuses me :D
From what I can tell, it's just a private version of what we're using now. Just check your Inbox in the top right and you'll have all your conversations (threads) sorted.
Dylan don't worry, it took me a little while to figure that thing out too.
Is there anyone who can get on tomorrow say 1pm EST for half hour to an hour? Just thought it might be good since I haven't used this software before if I ran through a quick encounter before everyone gets on sat. DMing part doesn't worry me, just DMing and using the tech, thought it might be nice to do a run through.
If I'm not terribly sick tomorrow I wouldn't mind a short encounter.
I'd be down, too. I can help out with any problems, also.
Do you have room for one more player? I'm proficient in 4E and looking to join a game with a focus on storytelling. I'm available 11 AM eastern time on Saturdays, so timing isn't an issue, and I think I can make it tomorrow to check the software - I've had issues on my own end as well, so it would be a good idea. If you'd have me, I'm interested in playing a Psion, they're fun to play and handy to have around. If you confirm that there's space, I'll send you my build ASAP.
Clarke, I can't confirm there is room. We have had interest from 8 players only six have confirmed with me. I can put you on the list to fill in if no one else confirms. Psion would be awesome haven't played one before or had anyone play one. For tomorrow only have one person saying they can be there so if you want to help out with that I'm fine with that.
Psions are deceptively easy to play, instead of Encounter attacks they get Power Points which they can spend to boost their At-Will powers. It's easier to use than it sounds, and it gives them some cool versatility despite their much lower number of powers known. They're really fun to play, and I like roleplaying psychic characters. Thanks for putting me on the list, if the other players don't confirm I'd love to play on Saturday. I'll do my best to be available tomorrow for the systems check.
I could probably help out tomorrow. I also have learned the actual tabletop system very well if you need help :)
We also may want to use Google+ or Skype. The over all system is amazing, but the voice and video chat is very laggy and cuts in and out at random.
I agree. Skype or Google+ would be a better choice. I'm more comfortable with Skype personally.
Skype is my preference as well.
Okay, I've never used Skype only video chat I've used is on Facebook with daughter who is at school.
Skype is simple and free :) great quality as well for a free program...
Well I've looked at Skype seems simple I can swing 5 bucks a month because if I'm understanding this we would need to have premium accounts for mass video chats. I will eventually have to get it anyway with my job and life the way it is so that's fine. So I know Tow, Pendrak, and Clarke are fine with this but I need to make sure that is cool with everyone else. So as of right now this is who I have slated to play Saturday having contacted me through PM and send them the link. Ted T. Dylan Pendrak Kamiztheman Kamiztheman's Roommate Twowo Emilio D waiting in the wings: Clarke P. Right now we have: Two Fighters A rogue A Barbarian Bard Psion (waiting in the wings) If you do not end up with a Cleric do not worry conveniently there will be potions laying about, if a healing Cleric shows up not as much. Of course some Bards can heal so we will have to see. Please let me know if I've missed anyone it was not on purpose. If you are on the original list but not in the above list please PM me by 11am EST Friday that way I can let Clarke know if we have room for him.
Whoa, no cleric? Or wizard? lol we'll all be set to run in a punch the crap out of whatever is there! Bard will have fun with ALL the diplomacy <3
Not just some Bards, All Bard's can heal it's a class feature.
I don't know much about bards :/ I could play a sorcerer though?
It totally up to you Dylan, it would be nice if there was a ranged person there but I promise not to kill everybody because you're unbalance, just some of you. Yes that is correct its in their Aura, which I wasn't familiar with until I started to play a bard recently and I love it. They really can help turn the tide of any battle buffing up the party.
lmao xD Alright, i'll hang back, you kill them. I'll work on a sorcerer
The party looks pretty balanced so far, with two Strikes (three if Dylan plays a Sorcerer), two Defenders, one Leader, and one (potential) Controller. With all the melee characters, a Warlord might be really nice, but I think the party can hold its own. The real issue is skills and rituals - making sure the party members complement each other and don't overlap too much. Unfortunately, I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow at 1 p.m. here, so I won't be able to make the Skype test. Sorry about that, I hate to seem flaky - I'm really very excited for this game.
