Sonic Disruptor Pistol

For your perusal and possible approval: Bluebooking, I'd like to have Kyle develop this weapon. With its checks and balances, I don't feel it's overpowered. Let me know what you think. Yes, totally stole the picture, but I've always loved this design. Sonic Disruptor Pistol Range - PB 0-5, S - 11-15 M - 21-25 for Blast Mode Range - PB 0-3, S - 4-10, M - 11-20, L - 21-30, E - 31-50 for Stun Mode Damage - 3d10,2d10,1d10 or Stun Ammo - Standard Powerclips or External Source ROF - 1 SEU/Shot - 4 Mass - 1 Cost - 700 cr The Sonic Disruptor Pistol is a Sonic Stunner that has been upgraded with high-power, rapid recharge capacitors. The sound emitter for the Sonic Stunner is the same as the Sonic Disruptor, but much smaller. The capacitor upgrade allows more power to be channeled through this array. While it isn't as powerful as an Electrostunner, it does have a bit longer range. However, like the Sonic Disruptor, the damage diminishes over the distance when used in Blast mode. When used to stun, use the Sonic Stunner range table.

I also felt that is was an oversight in SF. In terms of design, I've always thought there should be a bell shape on the end of the nozzle...

Two concerns.   First, to confirm: blast mode is damage instead of stun?   Second, sonic weapons always have a ROF of 1.  If you bump the ROF down to 1, then I have no issues.  In fact, you can remove the flaw - I think it's a very reasonable design. The first one you build will cost 10 times cost, and Kyle will have to make a check of technician AND beam weapons (or lose the investment).  Once you've built one successfully, you can build them at cost.

Yes, Blast Mode is Damage. Stun is a second setting, but since it goes through the same system, it uses the same amount of power. It's like the rifle, but with a stun setting. I think it'd be interesting to draw a gun that no one has seen before and confuse the poop out of them. Also, yes....yes, it does make the same sound as the gun in Star Trek...because it's awesome. The Awesome Sound ROF 1 it is. Lastly, could I team up with the others to get a boost on the rolls?

That makes sense, so yes, you can team up.  In fact, here's the full mechanics: First, roll Technician: Operate Machinery with penalty based on tech level / complexity of the item (in this case -30) Second, roll whatever secondary skill(s) are appropriate with the same penalty (in this case Beam Weapons) If someone is helping you, they may help you with any roll above. In fact, you can have multiple assistants, but only one for each roll. When helping, the assistant rolls the same test as described above. On a success, this gives you a +10 bonus on the same roll. On a critical failure, the project automatically fails.

Yea, yazirians use the awesome sound as a mating call. You're going to get excited every time I pull the trigger.

To address your "bell" observation in an earlier reply, the Klingons used 2 little focusing screens to adjust the beam. They were susceptible to misalignment and the beam would get messed up. The Eminiarians were obviously smarter and made a tougher beam emitter grid. Well...the prop guys glued on some other flaps, so that they wouldn't look lazy.

I'm a Star Trek trivia aficionado, however, this I didn't know off the top of my head. The first disruptor was the one from Eminiar 7. The Klingons came later and they changed it to what we are all familiar with. Heck, even the Romulans used it...because the prop guys were lazy. Now we need to discuss multi-dimensional physics and come up with phasers. <evil grin> "VY NOT SIMPLY WAPORIZE DEM?"

I think that these may sell. If we could deliver a few of these to dealers and see if they sell, we could be sitting on some cash. If we can get a few built, give one to each of the weapon vendors and see how the customers react. How much would they cost to build? Can we get parts cheaper and build them ourselves?

You can build them in small production runs at cost.  To produce them less expensively, you'd have to tool up and buy/rent production facilties.  If you do so, you believe you could make a significant steady income, but with some risk of losing your investment.  Alternately, if you sold the design (and rights) to a megacorp, you think you could make a significant amount immediately.  Both plans have advantages and disadvantages, but keep in mind that those aren't your only options.  Just the easiest (and safest) two that come to mind.
