New to Tabletop; Old hand at Play By Post -- Advice?

-waves- Hullo, I'm Rosalie (online, at least. Proper name is Anne.) and I've done pbp forum games for years and run a medieval pokemon game in a semi-tabletop style that involves a game master, but no stats. I've wanted to get into tabletop for years, but there's nothing around here for that. I am a total newbie and I'd love if someone could take me under the wing a bit -- which kinds of games are easiest to start off getting into, where to find the literature, game basics, and maybe if someone has space for a very inexperienced player to learn the ropes? I'm a little unsure about the lfg search because I'm not too sure what I'm looking for, haha. I can work out times with whoever if someone would care to lend a hand. I'm in southern NJ, GMT +5.

It all depends on what you like. Pokemon is anime so there is BESM (Big Eyes Small Mouth) that is built specific towards anime but D&D 4e can be used also and that rule system is somewhat popular here. There is also 3.5e or pathfinder and you can find specific sites that have all the free rules listed (mostly pathfinder), You could try a FATE system since it is rather freeform and might fit your playstyle very well. There are a few others out there also. If you have no system preference but will to play one shots or limited run sessions. Campfire rpgs is one group that I highly recommend. Great group of people to game with. I just haven't had a chance lately to join in one of their games. The LFG (looking for group) listing is not bad. I just use it without anything listed and just scroll through the games. You will find something that will catches your attention.

Oh, Hi and I'm Pat. Is that Southern New Jersey or somewhere else? Just curious because GMT+5 puts you over in Europe somewhere, I think.
Southern NJ; sorry, daylight savings. XD I'm looking to steer away from pokemon since my hands are full with my game -- I haven't played fantasy (high or urban) in a while and would likely enjoy something of that nature. I'll definitely look up the Campfire rpgs group! :D Thanks!

They just finished up a one shot gamma world game and looks to be going back to a call of cthulhu game which I played a character in I wanted to continue playing in it but right now I'm super busy with college and the rest of my real life (includes wife, son, mother-in-law, and work). Don't be afraid of posting interest in a game if you spot one you want to play.
