On Monday, January 28, we will be shutting down the current forum software and switching to the new system we have been designing specifically for Roll20.
The new system features a much better integration (in fact, it is now part of the "core" Roll20 application). This means that we should no longer have any issues with accounts/people not being able to log in on the forums, you'll be able to PM anyone in Roll20 (even if they've never been to the forums or sent a PM), there will be campaign-specific forums, etc. There are a lot of exciting new things about this update and we're very pleased to be getting it out so quickly.
That being said, we wanted to make sure that everyone is prepared for the current forum software to be shut down. Things you will want to know:
1) We will be transferring all posts and private messages from the old software to the new one. I will say that the PM import is a little less "reliable" than the forum post import, so if there are any super-important PMs you have, it wouldn't be a bad idea to copy + paste them out of the forum into a document just in case.
2) The current forum software will be taken totally offline. We have a little redirector in place that should be able to redirect a good portion of links to discussions to their "new location", but we can't guarantee that all links to pages on the current forum won't break.
If there are any questions, let us know. And look forward to Monday, we're excited about the new forums and features and we hope you will be, too!
