Hi all, I'm pretty much brand new to D&D, have played a single game of 4E with a few local mates. Certainly not new to dice games however with extensive 40k experience (10k Ork Amry). System - D&D 4E / NEXT Time - 6:30PM - 11:30PM AEST (Sydney Time) Looking to join as a player. Happy to use Roll20 or any other virtual table. My only character to date is an 8 year old girl who was turned into a vampire (makes for some interesting moments). Happy to roll something lighter if the groups not comfortable with a character from the Heroes of Shadow.

Hey just to avoid confusion you should change your timezone to AEST (because someone special who didn't read the title would think est in america) Having said that I would like to get in on an aussie game too as a player. 4th ed next pathfinder or star was edge of the empire. All days work for me
Hi guys, I'm also an Aussie looking for a group to play D&D 4e with. I have been playing since I was young and DMing just as long. Although I do find myself DMing alot due to lack of DMs in my local area. That being said I would prefer to be a player, but I do understand it can be hard to find DMs and would be willing to make the sacrifice for the right group (by right group I mean regular, fun, cooperative). I am a Perthian so I do run 2 hours behind you, but its not hard to accommodate to that. As for days I can do most besides Saturday and Sunday as I generally run D&D for mates on Saturday and do 40k on Sundays. I could also possibly bring the Mrs as a player as well coz shes pretty keen.
Either way I would be keen to get back into 4th ed if you would have me or if someone else wishes to DM

Well there is always taking it in turns DMing. It can be a bit of a challenge but always makes for some funny games

Being brand new Id prefer not to DM, basically because I still dont know the game well enough. I 40k on Friday nights and family (have a 9 week old) on the Saturday so anything else would work.

I am an Aussie, and while I have not DM'd before I would be willing to give it a go, In terms of setting I could easily come up with my own unique and original world (I have a great imagination and I am willing to put it to great use). Rules wise, I prefer to run it as either 2nd Edition or if you guys are up for something really new, can use the D&D Next rules that are out (new package came out just recently). Time wise, Id be fine with 6ish-midnight on say, Friday or Saturday, perhaps even sunday though it would need to finish at midnight exactly. Let me guys know if your up for it, and I'll get working on the world. (If 2nd edition is chosen, I will be using the default deities to make things easier) Minor overview in terms of the world can be given if requested.
Well guys I have the resources at my finger tip and the experience DMing 4e, I will raise my hand and do the DMing. Good news is that I have 2 campaigns ready to go and will carry a group from level 1 to 5 and have all the maps and adventures to keep the group going till end game.
Sounds good mate and im pretty keen. Never got much of a chance to play 4th cause my old group are 4th haters.
If you want to be a PC Anthony, and don't mind DnD next, I have no objections to DM'ing it. I am already involved in a DnD next game as a PC and it is fun and less complicated then other versions that I know of. Especially if your Mrs wants to join in as well. I am extremely confident that I can have a campaign good to go before we start. Though prefer a party size of 4 min, 5 max.
Well I wont turn down the offer Joshua. If you do need any help with anything at all weather it be rules or Roll20 stuff let me know and I am more then happy to help out
You don't mind if I join as well Joshua? I have played a few sessions of next and have gone over the new playtest packet that was released today
More the merrier. If you have a particular race/class and a particular preference of day and time window, let me know. hopefully we get numbers to fill out quickly.
Pretty much whenever haha! I was really looking forward to the bard but it leaves alot to be desired. I'm thinking a Cleric or a Paladin

With the idea's turning in my head that I really should type or put to paper in the near future, I will say a few things as well, Play whatever you like to play, If its a bard then you get to be the inspiring figure in the group, who is a generalist rather then a specialist. Clerics there are currently 3 domains, I plan to homebrew more at a later point for it, to give more flavour to clerics (including a few evil domains for those who like that path). while for the most part any Class can go with any Race, when it comes to Paladins, I plan on putting some restrictions on which races can choose the class. For example if you think a Drow who's history speaks for itself is going to be a Paladin, you might be in for a surprise ^_- That said the pace of the game itself will be set based on the players, you can be a good or evil in your adventures, helping people, robbing people, both with benefits and punishments, Good for example, good rep, nice rewards, extra dangerous missions that could come back with a party member in a body bag (killing evil wizards and big dragons is work that does not come with life insurance after all ^_-).... Evil, causing mischief, robbing and killing people for money, that if you get caught could either get you fined, jailed or worse (such as missing an arm for attempting to steal from a noble or hanged for mass murder, and if you go this path, pray for good rolls :P). The race you choose will also determine how npc's react to you, example most people dont like Drow's, as such dont expect friendly and polite chit chat, however, others may open up to you more then humans, and extra information or even possible tasks (quests) could open up. I will be using a pretty favourable Ability score generation system, and on one final note, I plan to revamp the Dragonborn race a bit, but will still be playable, but because of the Revamp, I am going to allow 1 max per party to go with the back story of how Rare they are and seeing two in one place is an extreme miracle. This revamp is solely to go with the world and setting, and compared to the original will not be any different combat wise from the original. p.s no Multiclassing, lets keep things simple :P
Reading up on Next now. Leaning towards a Wood Elf Druid.

Im about to head out to play 40k in 15min, When I get home I plan to start lay into all the home brewing stuff to do with religions and domains to give more options to clerics and paladins, It will all be ready when the group does character creation. (which will be when we have a full group and the schedule ironed out).
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.. whoa. We're playing 4e/next right? If so then there is already an existing world and already a character builder available to us. This will allow you joshua to focus on the getting the campaign and encounters ready rather then putting undo effort in to homebrewing. I do get the feeling that you're still thinking along the lines of 2e rules, and you might want to read up on the 4e rules before going ahead with anything because alot has changed. Cleric's don't even use a domains anymore and Dragonborns aren't OP. Really Joshua, it sounds all to familiar. A keen player wants to try DMing and get so caught up with the ideas that he forgets to read the rules and settings. This is not something you can just jump into, you need to really read and research. Honestly it sounds great that you want to DM and you have all these ideas, but you'll end up breaking the game. I have this 4e character builder you guys can download and use, can be a bit tricky to install, but I have added instruction so it should make it easy. Click here for Builder
If were going 4E this is also a really good character creator and includes options for all the expansion books: http://dnd4.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2074

What lol, no no over thinking a little bit, Dragonborn arent OP :P I just want to change the background to fit with the setting, the original background in the packet still exists, I plan to use that as minions for dragons should you ever encounter one. The racial bonus you get will be the same as the packet, except your breath ability will be a certain element (Radiant). When I go over the change, you will understand and the reasons why they are rare. as for the Domains, in the DnD next packets there are 5 domains but only 3 done, I plan to make up some more to give clerics a little more choice, especially if you want to travel a darker side of a god, or run into a NPC of a dark god. (and the campaign is DnD Next (Domains are a choice in DnD next for Clerics, it determines what free spells you can cast without having to spend a slot remembering for the day, so if you go Heal, you can always cast cure wounds even if you have say Entangle and Commanded memorized at lvl 1. The Idea is to just flush it out a little to give freedom, something which will be done in later updates by Wizard Coast.) Same thing with paladins since only one Oath is released, with more pending. Edit: Which one you decide to choose is of course players choice, if you decide to use one of the three that is also fine, this is more or less for possible npc's and to allow paladins a choice rather then having their oath at lvl 3 picked for them till others get released, seems unfair for them.

Look honestly I am just getting more and more frustrated with this. Lets just stick with 4e and be done with it. without all the Next rules released I just don't think its as enjoyable and will just end up confusing those who are new to the game.
Works for me!
Yes happy with 4E. Are there any concerns with a character from the Heroes of Shadow? Happy to roll something new but I am quite attached to young Sasha.
There shouldn't be any problems with any characters you want to create, however I would like to see different to the 8 year old girl... it just kind of scares me with the idea of someone of that age going into a dungeon.

Haha that the entire appeal of the character. Ill work on something different.
Reminds me of Claudia from Interview with the Vampire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudia_(The_Vampire_Chronicles)
Yeah my RL mates made the same distinction. I had not, I drew more inspiration from Kickass - http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_OfpZQm4cpao/S8uLP0o0oYI/AAAAAAAABvY/RYZgMhhyxIo/s400/kickass3.jpg

Well like i said I'm not against the character. My Mrs brought up a good point.... How long has she been 8? And if you want to take the role of Striker and Nathan wants to go Leader/Healer, its put me in a great spot to play Defender which is awesome coz I wanted to play a Swordmage and the Mrs wants to play a Druid... so we got all bases covered.
Yes was turned at 8, so body of the 8 year old mind of an adult. Not to say she wouldn't use her childish charms to her advantage ;)
Is a vamp melee or ranged?
Melee
Hi guys, wondering if there is any room for another player? Very keen on joining a 4e adventure.
1 more would put us at standard group size :)
Awesome, count me in then if you're happy to have me. I'm a Sydneysider as well and i'm perfect with the times listed in OP.
Welcome to the group peter. Do you have a role in mind that you'd be interested in playing?
Joshua M. said: I am an Aussie, and while I have not DM'd before I would be willing to give it a go, In terms of setting I could easily come up with my own unique and original world (I have a great imagination and I am willing to put it to great use). There is a slight misunderstanding I think as Joshua kindly offered to DM a game of 2nd ed or next, not 4th.
Well we can only wait to see what he says. Honestly there is little next rules out and the difference between the next and 4e is very vague. What I still can't understand is why would a first time DM want to homebrew? Its like not knowing the rules and wanting to change them. Myself I don't see why anyone would homebrew over using standard WOTC rulesets as it really makes the game and gives you a everything there at your disposal, I also don't see why anyone would want to play the ancient rules of 2e coz really if you're going backwards you might as well play pathfinder.
Honestly i'd be fine with playing either ruleset, preference would be towards a 4th ed game though. In terms of what character i'd like to play, I'm thinking a sorcerer would be really fun

Nathan was correct I have absolutely no experience with 4th ed, and Ive seen it used in Oneshot, and did not particularly like it. Im am also not home brewing the entire DnD next package. it is extremely limited to simply adding in some extra domains and Oaths (for clerics and paladins respectfully) In order to allow players more freedom of choice, all of which is using the pre existing builds that exist and creating polar opposites, So Life domain opposite is Death, So instead of getting Cure wounds, etc, you get Inflict wounds. This was also to give evil priests you might encounter (if any) some flavour. There is absolutely NO homebrew changes to Rules, Combat, Magic, Skills, etc. Edit: 2 of the Domains which Ive come up with are also exclusively for Chaotic Evil Clerics.
Yup not bothered either way, tell you what though is there one of those nice fancy character creators for NEXT yet? ;)
Dont believe one is need, it is that easy lol. Creating a Fighter You can make a fighter quickly by taking the suggested background and picking one of the three equipment packages. Background: Soldier Equipment – Defense: Chain mail, shield, long sword, 4 javelins, adventurer’s kit, and 39 gp Equipment – Offense: Chain mail, great sword, 3 handaxes, adventurer’s kit, and 1gp That said, I was planning of going over character creation with everyone anyways, depending on how you wanted to customize you characters.
I'm out
I'm still keen Joshua.
Okay, I'll put up a another post to see if anyone from other time zones whose are keen to play at our timezone to get the rest of the numbers we need, Ill put a link to the campaign here. I'd love to come as as PC if you guys have room still. I don't have much experience with DnD but know a bit about RP'ing, and am a quick learner. I'm from Victoria so I don't think timezones would matter.
I believe there still is James. Are you aware of the play testing for DnDnext? This is the official forums for DnDNext: http://community.wizards.com/forums/98651 And this is where you can download the rules from: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/DnDNext.aspx Any other questions feel free to ask one of us!
