[LFG] Shadowrun 5e, new GM looking for players.

1466011545

Edited 1466011843
((Shadowrun 5th edition, Thursday nights at 7:30 PM CDT. I'm a new GM, so please have patience for me as I try to learn the rules! New and experienced players welcome! I am an equal opportunity GM, and I expect all my players to respect the others, regardless of... well, anything. Be nice or be kicked out. I ask that all applicants be 18 years of age or older. This campaign may deal with mature, sensitive topics such as murder, racism, or sexuality. All players must be able to handle these topics in a mature way. I.e, if sexual violence comes up and the player devolves into asinine, 4th-grade level rape jokes, the player will be kicked. Adversely, if a racist NPC makes it known his racism and the player flies into a slobbering rage over how racist I or other players are in real life , the player will be kicked. This will be a mostly black trenchcoat style game, but rest assured, there will be plenty of opportunities to blow things all to hell. We will use Discord for voice chat and Roll20 for the dice rolls/maps. Please apply by telling me a bit about yourself, your experience with Shadowrun and/or other RPGs, and what sort of character you had in mind, if any.)) The year is 2078. For the past 3 years, Seattle’s sitting mayor has been the progressive metahuman rights activist and elven Salish national, Janet White Buffalo. Her election was necessitated by the suicide of the previous mayor, Kenneth Brackhaven, after his ties to the violently pro-human Humanis policlub were made public by a group of anonymous whistleblowers. Things were looking up for a little while, which most in the shadowrunning game knew to be another false promise. They were right. CFD. To most people, the acronym stands for the Cognitive Fragmentation Disorder nanovirus. To shadowrunners, it stands for “clusterf*cked.” In 2077, little under a year ago today, people with cyberware began to change. It didn’t affect everyone, but those unlucky few whose internal nanites were taken over by hostile AI began experiencing blackouts and lapses in memory. During these dark spots, the AI takes over and furthers its own agenda, even to the detriment of their host. The worst of these so-called “headcases” can have three, four, or even more AI personalities jockeying for control. Eventually, the meat body’s original personality is completely wiped out, leaving only AI in its place. Even FastJack, the most famous and accomplished decker to ever live, is rumored to have fallen prey to this new technological disease. In the wake of such unrest and uncertainty, people seek communities to bring them together and give them hope. Even in the shadows, were runners are all-to-often completely on their own, or even pitted against those they may have called friends, people are looking for a place to belong. Steve Lang, a nightclub owner and your fixer, has set up an organization of shadowrunners called the “Red Hand Club.” Steve operates his club on an “honor amongst thieves” philosophy; he sets you up with no jobs that endanger innocent lives, and makes sure that your jobs don’t endanger the lives of your fellow clubmembers. In return, members get free drinks, free lodging, and discounted prices at shops or fences that Steve and his club sponsor. Finally, members aren’t under any of these requirements on jobs outside the club. All in all, it’s a pretty good deal, chummer.

Hey there! Name's Cappin', or 'Ski, or Steve if you really want. I've been playing Shadowrun for a number of years now. To be honest I haven't had an actual Shadowrun game for maybe six or seven months? My old one dried up after maybe half a year of playing as the GM had real-life obligations that kept us from getting started again after a little hiatus. But we went through to Boston and Seattle and had a rollicking good time in both. I don't know the system inside out and out, but I know it well enough to play my character and I've cobbled together a bunch of tools to make my life easier trying to figure out where all the moving parts go. But that's just the mechanical half! Shadowrun's probably my second favorite system, first being Mutants and Masterminds (and let me tell you finding a game of that is tooough, even in this age of Marvel and DC trying very hard to catch up to Marvel) I've been playing other RPGs for at least a good fourth of my life-- started with Baldur's Gate, made the jump into Neverwinter Nights and bought a Dark Sun book in Barnes and Noble when I was wee and I been hooked ever since. Pathfinder, 4e, 5e, you name it I've tried it. Only hole is GURPS and LOT5R. In case it's not obvious I'm pretty excited. It's rare to see a GM have so much background right there out in the open! I'm pretty easy going personality wise-- I can take things serious (loves me some character driven interaction) but there's nothing wrong with a little bit of light over-the-table chatter. I also do voices, which, depending on the ethnicity of my character you may get to hear. I cannot speak as to their quality-- but I know the old group certainly enjoyed them. I had a literal street samurai (japanese) whom the GM would purposely put in situations where the accent would stutter. Like making him nemesis with a fellow named Zane Morelli (Zane-ooh, Mor-uh-ooh-err-ee). Hilarious. Since I'm not sure where the party is going to go, I'd like to field my standard guy-- ware-built investi-tank-- an ex-fast response fella with a wife and a kid he keeps seperate from the shadows, trying real hard to make some money to tide him over 'til his contract renews (and he's been a year in limbo so he's getting pretty desperate). Notes of Die Hard, Breaking Bad and strong noir opportunities. But I've got more, depending on how (if picked) everyone else feels like filing in. Hope to hear from you soon!

Jason Starks joined the military and graduated Ranger school at a young age. He was deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq as part of a Long Range Surveillance company. After returning from his second tour, he transferred to the National Guard and settled down and had a family. Tragically, however, his family was murdered during a mass shooting. Enraged and feeling like he had nothing left to live for, Jason re-enlisted to active duty and joined the 7th Special Forces group, where his penchant for reckless tactics earned him a reputation as a man with a death wish. Several years into his tenure as a Green Beret, a mission went south on Starks and his team. With no field support, they were forced to fight their way out blindly. Only Jason survived. He spiraled into a deep depression. Being without family and in such superb physical condition, an experimental military procedure deemed him to be a perfect candidate for a cryogenics research project. The project was only supposed to be for five years, but something went wrong in the wake of "The Awakening" and he was forgotten about. 67 years later, he is discovered by James Stephenson, an Ares Chief security contractor. Stephenson is the grandson of Starks' former platoon sergeant, a man whose life Starks had saved in Central Africa 70 years ago. Starks had entrusted oversight of his affairs to Stephenson's grandfather before he was frozen, and the responsibility had been passed down to Stephenson when his grandfather passed away. After discovering Starks' storage locker full of his old gear, Stephenson tracked down Starks and revived him from his cryogenic slumber. After being awoken, Starks' body required augmentation to repair or replace the damage the cryogenic process had caused. During his time recovering, Stephenson introduced himself and explained to Starks what he had missed out on in the last 65 years. Stephenson explained that if Starks had not saved his grandfather's life 70 years ago, he wouldn't be alive today. For that, Stephenson offered Starks as much assistance as he could give him. OOC: About me- I played a crappy house rules version of AD&D in my high school years, then began running a 3.5 game at my place with some friends in my 20's. Played a few other AD&D games after that, as well as some Vampire: The Masquerade. Since then I've played and DM'ed several DnD 3.5 games. I wanted to get into something with a little bit more of a modern feel, and I was directed to Shadowrun. I did some research and decided to give it a shot. As this would be my first experience with the game, I decided to put together a character who will be brand new to the setting as well. I've joined another Roll20 Shadowrun campaign with the same character, but haven't played yet. Real world, I'm a former airborne infantryman from a long range surveillance company with one deployment to Afghanistan under my belt. I currently serve as a carpenter/mason with an engineer company with the Nebraska National Guard. I have a deep background in security, with a bachelor's in criminal justice. In my spare time, I collect, shoot, and build my own weapons. I feel like these skillsets and experiences will translate well to the Sixth World, though I will be drastically behind the times where technology and magic are concerned.
How's it hanging? Don't worry about the long name, can shorten it to Gernade or just Gern; and if I'm triggering any sort of spelling OCD, welp, that's been the intent with this name. So a bit about me: I work food service in a hospital, and due to the hours, it makes finding a game relatively tricky since it sorta restricts me to evenings. Schedule can be fairly busy, but so long as the game sticks to the time and day posted, I'm golden and sure to be here every session. Otherwise, there isn't really much to say about me; got a bunch of vidya, watch different stuff on tv, and really just have a lot of potential to be stuff that I'm not fully utilizing yet. Why? Who knows; guess I just like how school-drama-less my life is right now. Just don't let that make you think I'm a slacker or something. In terms of game experience...I'm a late bloomer. Didn't get involved with this until...maybe three or four years ago? Got started with a sort of homebrewed d10 simple that was simple as hell to get into and understand. Then from those guys, ended up trying out Pathfinder and 5e when it was in its alpha stages. One is still on-going, one sort of fizzled out...I'm sure you can guess which one fizzled; but they were fun since there was more system meat on the bones. Also part of a Battle Century G group here on R20, which is a system based on Gundam/Gunpla. Quite a bit of fun, that one. In terms of Shadowrun, I have 0 experience in terms of playing it. Most I've got is having access to the 5e books, but only looked over the core rule book; haven't delved too much in a lot of the extra material. I also have access to Chummer5, but aside from messing around and looking at stuff, never made anything serious with it. But with a possible game, and others possibly helping if I screw up somewhere, I think something serious will happen. Alright, so I guess it's character time, right? Well, I have two general ideas. Keep in mind, they're just general ideas and nothing overly fleshed out. Unless it came on its own, I didn't figure to do this if there was the likelihood of never finding a game (and trust me, trying to find one on as good of a day and time you're advertising had been hard as hell). First one was when I was first reading it over: a rigger. Seemed like a neat idea and all, though I could either be shooting myself in the foot or making something neat when I say 'I plan on not using drones.' General idea was someone working for/owns a chopshop, which made them good at working on and driving land vehicles. Perhaps do some remote shenanigans and have multiple cars (a good amount possibly stolen) around the run site for either multiple escape routes or multiple battering rams. In general, would kinda be like if The Stig was a runner, and expect me to try and drift in a semi if given the chance with this. Other idea was making a sniper type, but instead of bullets this sniper would be tossing around line of sight spells from the camping-I mean, sniper spot. Some touch spells that would compliment this style, but for the most part, LOS. I'm unsure whether to go full mystic, or mystic adept on this one, but I'm sure I can eventually settle on something. And, of course, this sniper would only have the scope...or at least one that works in compliance with LOS spellcasting. Or it could be modified eyeware. Still very open concept I like to think. Otherwise, I don't have much of anything else. I could try anything, perhaps even decking/hacking but the first two I mentioned would be my preferred go-tos. But otherwise, I suppose that's it, so here's to hear back from ya soon.

I may be in the market for a Shadowrun 5e group. I haven't played SR in AGES and am eager to try my hand at 5e. I'm a very experienced Pathfinder/D&D GM and Player though, so I'm no stranger to tabletop games. I'm pretty familiar with the Shadowrun lore (on the surface layer anyway), though I'm not up on current timelines and recent events. I have a character fully filled out in a 5e sheet already that I think would work well. He's built out as a stealthy breaking&entering type with no Cyberware to speak of (just an internal AirTank). Dwarf: Skills ► Attributes ► Meta ► Resources ► Magic BOD AGI REA STR WIL LOG INT CHA EDG 4/8 6/6 4/5 3/8 3/7 3/6 5/6 5/6 2/6 Flint McGree A street rat of the Seattle sprawl, he spent a good number of years in Ares' Knight Errant Security forces, as a trained physical security insertion specialist ( stealth/breaking&entering/theft/etc ) while covering as a sniper in jobs his skill-set wasn't needed for. He currently resides in the Seattle Redmond Barrens making due with odd jobs, both legitimate and in the shadows. About 6 months ago, there was an incident while on Overwatch duty for the Knight Errant's. During the mission a small boy, the son of some minor illegal sim dealer, saw his father being taken down and he picked up his fallen Predator Pistol. The lad could barely lift the weapon, but Flint had no choice but to stop him from firing at his squad-mates... the only way he could that far away. After that, Flint lost his taste for the work and took an extended "medical leave" from the outfit, ( without pay, of course ). He's been surviving in the Shadows, keeping to himself and occasionally hiring his services out to the Hot Nukes gang for corporate espionage jobs that need a more subtle approach than the gangs usual fondness for explosives. It's largely grunt work; break into this warehouse, steal this simdisk, etc. Often well-below his highly trained capabilities. He's a pleasant enough character, always up on the local lingo, yet always professional ... direct and down to business. When not disguising himself to slip into somewhere he doesn't belong, you can often see him in a respectable suit or fine street leathers. As a professional proud of his skills, he's eager to ply his trade and prove they're still relevant in a mostly online world; getting paid for it doesn't hurt either.

Howdy. Contact Information: Skype: Shazam606060 Email: Horker5@hotmail.com I've played TTRPGs on and off since I was around 7. I got my first start in a nWoD game where I played a pre-built character and was told how I was to act, but since then I've had the free run of the tables. I've played DnD, Shadowrun, nWoD, Time Wizards, and a few others. I have a massive hoard of PDFs for near every game out there. I enjoy Shadowrun and I enjoy roleplaying. When it comes to Shadowrun directly, I've played in a few campaigns. For some reason or another they never tend to last long, but the system is amazing. I've tried to DM it myself, and found my group was unable to commit to the nitty grittiness of the rules so we scraped it. In general, I play face characters or Matrix based characters. However, I don't enjoy playing mages. I specifically avoid playing a magic based character in most systems, but especially Shadowrun. I'm pretty familiar with most of the rules, can help with chargen, and whatever else needed. Also, I really enjoy playing a good mirror shades campaign where I can really be a sneaky bastard and not have to worry about someone just starting to murder the shit out of some NPCs for no good reason. For a character concept, I'll go ahead and drop a face and a decker, although I can probably roll anything we need.. Face: Runner Name: Captain Lesym Theme: Literal Pirate Skill Set: Breaking and Entering, Social Infiltration, Pistols, Swords Personality: Loud and raucous and always looking out for his "Crew", the good Captain prefers to not make a scene and would rather walk off with the goods with all parties the better for it, unless, of course, one of them molested his crew. That is unacceptable and has to be punished with a fierce and rapid onslaught. All he expects from the other members of the team is complete obedience once a plan has been made and to work well together. Inter-party conflict is not an option. Has a love/hate relationship with dwarves and elves. Notes: I will do my best, with the party's consent, to steer the campaign towards runs that involve boats and anything nautical. Decker: Runner Name: Arctic (Because I'm so nova hot with IC and it's kinda pun, you get it right?) Theme: Tries way too hard to be a stereotypical hacker Skill Set: Sleaze(Stealth) based decking, driving, machine pistols, lock picking, Personality: Talks a little too fast and is still a pretty novice runner so he gets a little worried and nervous at times. Probably has something to do with his mild addiction to cram, but it's nothing important. It just makes him faster and everyone knows that the faster you are the better you are so the fastest decker is the best decker. And of course, getting into systems is child's play, but it's best not to get caught 'cause getting caught is dangerous and if you're caught you get KE on your tail and then they want to see inside the van and when they open it up there usually something they don't want to see in the van, so then you have to take them out and it spirals out of control so best not to get seen ever. And there's no shame in taking the cautious route. Notes: Pretty standard sleaze based decker. Carries around an old school cyber deck (Up to GM discretion) and tries to use as much decker lingo as possible. At all times.
Hey there, don't you if you are still looking for people but just in case you are I've been looking to get a group for Shadowrun for a while. I've played a good amount of 4th edition so I have a good handle on the setting but I'm relatively new to 5th. I have read the rules and all that I've just never gotten a chance try my hand at playing it. I've been playing table top rpgs for a while, I started on 2nd ed ad&d, and I've played every edition since then plus Pathfinder. A couple other games I've enjoyed a lot are VtM and L5R, both one have very interesting settings as well. In fact now that I think about it I think that one of the reason I enjoy Shadowrun so much is the setting, it's pretty well defined but at the same time because you are generally playing as runners whole live outside normal society there's a lot of room for individuality. Anyways, as for what sort of character I'd like to play I'm pretty flexible. I tend to shy away from mages but I haven't actually played one recently so maybe that's a sign I ought to give it a try. Either way let me know if you need another player I'll be up for whatever the group needs.
Our group is full! I want to take the time to thank everybody for their interest, and if you weren't chosen... well, there are a whole bunch of other players in this very thread that all have the same schedule availability!
