More Functions to our Profile

I am currently trying to gather a group of friends to play a game here on roll20. I created my account and linked people to my profile. I was then told that didn't really help anyone. There is no chat window, no "friends" function.. anything! Unless I have missed it.. is there no way to add other members to a friends list? To know when they are on-line? To chat on each others walls and plan out a game?

The inbox function can message multiple people at once. Add each person to the inbox message that you want to receive it. It acts as a group chat function. - Gauss
Gauss, I agree with what you are saying here, and BTW I wonder if this could be stressed in the Help & Docs section.

Kristin has been working hard to update the Help and Docs section. I will let her know. - Gauss
Thanks. I suggested this for the Help & Docs section since it is a question very often raised in the forums.
Could there be a link added to peoples profiles "message this person?"

If you click on a person's name there is a link to do just that. Example: I click on your name, immediately under your icon (right side of the screen) is the link: "Send Aiken D. a Message". If I click on that link it takes me to the inbox to send you a message. - Gauss
<a href="http://app.roll20.net/users/61169/jari-matti-h" rel="nofollow">http://app.roll20.net/users/61169/jari-matti-h</a> When I click on the above, I don't see anywhere to message him? What link should we send to people offsite when linking them here?

Go to your inbox, type in Jari-Matti and his name should come up (assuming he has been to the community side of the website). Click on his name and send him a message. I do not understand your second question. Roll20.net is the website address. - Gauss

What link should we send to people offsite when linking them here? Click the user name of anyone here in the posts of this thread. You should see a web page like this one: Now just click at "Send [user] a Message".
The problem is, I don't know how can we PM users that besides having an account, have no participation in the Roll20 forums (no threads, no posts, not appearing in the forum Search results), like it happens in the case of <a href="http://app.roll20.net/users/61169/jari-matti-h" rel="nofollow">http://app.roll20.net/users/61169/jari-matti-h</a> commented by Aiken D.
That's what I am on about. Not everyone is bound to be chatty on the forum.
Yeah. Here is a solution. Try it: This is related to what Gauss said before: Go to your inbox, type in Jari-Matti and his name should come up (assuming he has been to the community side of the website). Click on his name and send him a message.
Why is a users profile changed once they post on the forum?
Aiken D. said, Why is a users profile changed once they post on the forum? Hm, I'm not really sure about that. Just in case, I think this will help to clear the whole thing. Starting a New Conversation allows you to locate any user by typing their usernames in the Recipients field:

Aiken D.: The community and the game are two different websites. If someone never logs into the community site they are not listed. It has been suggested that there should be greater inter-connectivity between the two sites. I do not know what the status of that suggestion is. Right now the Devs are pretty busy with working on game features. - Gauss

Axel is correct, and you can add multiple users right from that inbox field before you send the first message. Note: if the person has not ever logged into the community webpage you will not be able to send them an inbox message. The autocomplete that Axel is pointing out will not find that person. - Gauss
I understand, Gauss. Thanks. Definitely, I think this demands to be addressed in Help & Docs ;)

Axel, you COULD respond to my request for help regarding Help & Docs. So far only one person has and that person...*gasp* was not you. :D - Gauss
Indeed, i've tried adding other people and since they've never logged into this side of things, i've no way of saying hello. Luckily Jari had, the other guy I am trying to contact.. has not! Definitely should be an automerged thingy.

I can understand why it has not started out that way. The game needs its own website/server. There is clearly some interconnectivity since you can sign in once and it signs you in on both sites. It would be a matter of a message being duplicated in both places and then once it is read in one it is 'read' in the other. I am not a coder so I do not know how difficult this may be but as with many upgrades, itll be lower on the priority list. Right now I believe the VTT is taking precedence. - Gauss
