Looking to Try Something New and Cheap

Playing recently, I've found myself a little bored of constantly playing D&D 5e, and wanting to branch out. Therefore, I've been doing a bit of research here and there into games like Call of Cthulu, the WoD games ( Only really Changeling: The Lost and Hunter: The Vigil), and trying to figure out what the hell Gurps is. If anyone is interested in taking on a new player in any of these, either for a 1 shot to give a small taste or trying to start a group, I'm all ears. Just lemme know what I'll need and I'll figure out how to get it. Useful Stuff: Eastern Time, English Only. Availability is generally pretty good. I'll see what I can shift around. I do have games Tuesday nights, Fridays 3 - 7 pm, Saturdays 3-7 pm though. Mic, no webcam. If anyone else is in the same boat and wants to try out something new, feel free to join in.
Hey there! I know it`s not one of the games you listed but if you`re interested and available for playing a Monster of the week campaign somewhere around 17:00-22:00 UTC-7, please let me know! We`re looking for a few more players and new player are very welcome.
I have a Wednesday Halo Mythic group that may appeal to you. If you think you might be interested, you can find more information here .

Although I don't have a game on offer right now, I can easily explain what GURPS is. In short, it is a system without a default setting - basically a massive toolbox that can be adjusted (with sourcebooks) to many different settings, or used to create your own unique world. It's pretty crunchy (i.e. it has rules for almost anything), and it prides itself on having well-researched and realistic systems for many things. The 3rd edition rules, for instance, actually had some of the authors and their friends dig holes with shovels and other tools before they determined what realistic rules for digging should look like. In a similar vein, it recruited experienced hunters and military personal to assist in creating the rules for guns. This attitude permeates much of the system. Both the 3rd and 4th edition have source books for a wide variety of settings, such as standard fantasy, a variety of historical settings, several flavours of scifi, etc. In my personal experience, the 4th edition has a bit better streamlining, but it is also more open to powergaming by the players. In either version, I would only play with an experienced GM (both in general RP experience and in experience with the system), since you'll otherwise end up far too often with rules discussions to actually get to enjoy the story. Good luck finding a group!

GURPS is Generic Universal Role Playing System from Steve Jackson Games in Austin, Texas. You can download the free GURPS Lite here: http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/lite/ It's a 3D6 roll low point buy system in brief. I'm not running or playing it now, but I do like it.
I've seen it used partially for space faring sessions, sounds interesting.
So it's like a system that meant to be usable with most any world idea that the GM has? That actually does sound pretty cool. Maybe I'll try to look for one after seeing how the above ones work out? Does it have a big community?
It's popular enough. GURPS 3rd edition is by now probably limited to a select group of grognards, mostly in the USA, but 4th edition is alive and doing well. At the same time, it's tough to call anything but various flavours of D&D "large community", here on Roll20. By and large, I would consider looking around the Steve Jackson message boards - it's a pretty cool place in it's own right. They may also have a lively Reddit community (many games do), but I wouldn't know.
