Hey there guys I thought that I had been doing exp right for my campaign but in a recent game I joined the DM put us up against a Hoard and gave us what seemed like a very low Exp amount. When I asked about this he informed me that I was doing it wrong but I have reread it twice now and think he could be misunderstanding it. Okay so here is the relevant information. Party Size 7 with 1 NPC's to protect. Enemy's 15 CR 1/2 orcs and a CR 1 orc CR 1/2 exp value is 100 Per head CR 1 exp value is 200 Total EXP 1700 Now I use the following online calculator to work out Exp and it says the following. Results Easy: 200 XP Medium: 400 XP Hard: 600 XP Deadly: 800 XP Encounter Difficulty: Deadly Results Characters: 8 (large party) Monsters: 16 (horde) XP to award: 1700 XP Difficulty multiplier: 3 Adjusted Difficulty Rating: 5100 XP Encounter Challenge Rating: 9 From this and what is written in the DMG what is the correct value of Exp that the party should get for defeating and surviving this Hoard encounter? Please feel free to post even if this has been replied too as the more who reply the clearer than rule will be. (Also note i voted for milestone in this campaign)
