After losing Sarman to the Mants and Sarman’s gold to a
devious Hench at the end of the previous session, the group had decided to
return to town and gather as much information as they could.
Keeping his pointed ear to the ground, they managed to find
information about a shady man that had purchased a large plot of land and a
large amount of supplies for $50,000 in cash. Seemingly working for someone
else, the only thing the plot of land had going for it was that it was
relatively large and had pre-existing caverns and underground stone dwellings.
Believing that they found their thief, despite him having headed away from
Brecconary, they headed off for this homestead.
What they found was a cavern entrance with a small wagon
parked out front and two men standing guard with Magelight cast on them.
Without giving them a chance to say anything, the tresspassers cut down the two
men and then proceeded to break into the stone dwelling.
Finding themselves in some stone hallways with a low enough
ceiling and grates at the bottom of the walls where water could be heard
flowing. A commotion echoed from the north and following it there, they
investigated doors with people behind them and eventually moved right around
the corner alerting a large group of men that someone they did not know had trespassed
into their home, and most likely slain their friends at the entrance.
Standing around arguing for a moment had allowed for them to
come around the crate barricades while archers had moved into firing position,
using the crates as cover. Firing off their limited supply of explosive arrows,
the party responded by using the hallway as a choke point to blind the group
using the Flash spell and then ruthlessly cutting them down as they attempted
to flee. Even casting a Stench to attempt to choke the life from some of them.
The session ended as they tried to decide whether or not to
follow the retreating men.
