What does Permalink do?

In the campaign Forums as I'm reading my messages and those of others, there's a word to press "Permalink" but I don't understand what it does. When I press it, it does nothing.

It is a link you can copy and paste to somewhere else that always goes to the given message. It's useful if you want to keep track of a particular message in a very long thread. Example, here's a permalink to a post I made, where I posted a permalink to a post Riley made. https://app.roll20.net/forum/permalink/3625985/

Ah! Okay. I see you have to right-click Permalink and click "Copy Link Address", but left-clicking does nothing. This should be explained.

I actually more often than not click on the 'Permalink' button of a post and then subsequently copy the fragment URL that my browser navigates to from its address bar. This fragment URL can be more useful to other forum users because it contains the name of the thread containing the post, and it can function as an anchor. For example, here's the Permalink to The Aaron's post within this thread: https://app.roll20.net/forum/permalink/3636549/ And here's the equivalent fragment URL: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/3636526/what-does-permalink-do/?pageforid=3636549#post-3636549
