[LFP] West-Marches-style Iron Kingdoms Game

The Greenblade Company is an Iron Kingdoms Campaign where the players take on the role of newly recruited mercenaries in a region about to experience some major upheaval. It has a large cast of player characters, 5 of whom take on a new mission every Sunday 12:00-4:00pm and Wednesday 7:00-11:00pm (EDT), though sessions sometimes run long. I'm looking for about 5 more players to round out the roster. If that sounds like something you'd like to be part of head over to the game's LFG listing for the rules, procedures, and how to sign on. If you have any questions or comments feel free to post them below or in the game's listing forum. Thanks for your interest.
Sounds pretty neat and I'd be interested to join. I've played/GMed Iron Kingdoms before so I understand the rules to a very deep degree. But, looking over the campaign listing, I did have one question. Would you, by any chance, allow a Gatorman PC? You see, I had the idea of a sort in-between for the Greenblades and the native scaled populace. I'd planned for him to be a warlock using a Blackhide war beast as his companion. As for why hes willing helping the Greenblades? Money mainly. While the native swamp life was good and all for him for a while, everythings got an end. So, hearing about company's need for new members as they journeyed into the "unknown", he signed himself up along with his heavy-set partner. So, in exchange for his endless loyalty to the highest bidder and love for the shiny weapons that come out of the Iron Kingdoms, the Greenblade Company gets a native of the lands, a warbeast, and a warlock all wrapped in one.
Chris M. said: Would you, by any chance, allow a Gatorman PC? This one is a hard sell and not workable as presented here. (We also have one player playing a Bog Trog Monster Hunter whose toes you'd have to walk pretty close to in order to rationalize it.) The Greenblade Company only has interactions with the swamp peoples when they attack a caravan freelancers subcontracted to the company are guarding in the Cloutsdowns. So they don't really have a need for a liaison, and even if they did they already have it in the afore mentioned character. Gatorman in general are more suspect because of the black magic practiced by their Bokor, and eating the fallen after the battle is the kind of thing that could end up getting a mercenary company under the Charter disbanded or worse. Career choice can make Unleashed races more compatible if they have something that brings them closer to civilization; warlock does the opposite. It doesn't seem so unusual for a group of mercenaries operating on the fringes of civilization to have a few odd savages, but for them to have one of their mighty warlocks would make certain potential clients wonder about their loyalties and the company's captain would consider it bad marketing at the very least. Another problem is that The Greenblade Company takes a wide assortment of jobs; the odd Gatorman walking around Point Bourne trying to solve a mystery is one thing, that Gatorman + a warbeast is quite another. (Also a starting warbeast has to be medium base and a Blackhide is large based.) Sorry for the wall of text. I always hate telling players no and just wanted to give you the full explanation of my reasoning on the matter. (edited typo)
What's your take on someone with no experience nor knowledge at all of the system but a curiousity none the less?

As long as you're serious about playing and can abide the rules and procedures I outlined in the LFG listing I'd be happy to have you. I have no problem at all teaching new players, and most of our current players are friendly folk with plenty of experience with the setting and system. In the broad strokes it's pretty standard RPG fair. I have a very rough character creation primer in the listing forum. And you can find way to much textbook info on the setting here .

I always hate telling players no and just wanted to give you the full explanation of my reasoning on the matter. It's no issue. I just wanted to test the waters on that idea. As I'm still interested in the game, would playing a Nyss be alright (I just ask in the case the group has too many)? If so, I'd like to further request the use of the Raptor or Ryssovass careers fro unleashed. I find the lack of nyss-careers odd in the original Iron Kingdoms book. I wanted to mix the core book's explorer career with either of these two careers under the idea of a Nyss warrior hoping to find a more sound way of fortifying the nyss' history that was lost when they fled the north. To this end, he's with the company as both a means to support himself and possibly find some form of help for his cause. (Note, this driving goal is just something I came with off the top of my head is most likely to change as I develop the character.)

The Nyss at large probably won't be a factor in the campaign, but Raptor or Ryssovass/Explorer sounds pretty awesome to me. We currently have two Nyss: an Ice Sorcerer/Priest of Nyssor and a Investigator/Archer. The Priest's player in particular has talked about wanting to find scattered Nyss, so maybe that could be a point of contact.

With an archer already in the Nyss-group of players, I may stick with the Ryssovass as, while a ulk-riding jouster would be funny, I think covering the bases of a magic-user, archer, and swordsmen would be neat for the dynamic of the three characters. If you'd want me for the game, my Skype is mrchrisok or I can make a post of the LFG if you don't have a skype.
I'd prefer you to make a post on the LFG listing, then we can go from there.

cool cool
Hey. I'd like to join in as well if you'll have me. I've always been the GM and never the player. I've made a post as soon as i've seen this LFG thread.
