Rolle and Curse of Strahl maps

Hoping this is the right place to post. I'm converting maps for use in roll20, specifically from Mike Schley's Curse of Strahd. My problem is that some of the maps load right away, other don't *seem* to doing anything when I try to load them into roll20 itself. There's a gray load bar, but nothing sems to happen. Some maps plop right into the program no problem. Second question, can I download my art files into roll20 without going into a game itself. In other works, can I access my library without being in-game. I bought the maps hoping it'd be easy to use with roll20, now I'm kind of irritated with myself for doing so. Worse, I might be running it this Saturday.

On the roll 20 site, go to the dropdown for the marketplace, there will be an option to go to your library there. You can upload there as well as by dragging and dropping onto the VTT or into a character/journal entry.
Well, turns out when I tried that, the images are too large (over 10 MB). Deadgummit. They are nice maps too.

You could try to chop them up into smaller maps?
That's a good idea. I guess I could try doing that in Gimp.
Try converting the images into .jpg with a resolution of about 72 dpi. That should reduce the file size significantly.

Here is our Roll20 wiki for Image Best Practices, https://wiki.roll20.net/Image_Best_Practices_for_R... I have not looked at the maps product you're using, but, over 10MB for a map graphics file is large, generous, detailed. That might be a map file that's made to be good enough for printing at full size (you only need about 1/3 the resolution of printing, to look great on-screen at the same size of inches). Many other Roll20 users have purchased Curse Of Strahd maps from the mapmaker and used them in Roll20 though, this has been mentioned in several other forum posts, so hopefully some fellow GM's who have done this could come along and give specific tips for using those maps.
Hopefully, another GM can chime in with some help. I fear I've wasted $30 on the maps to make the game that much more immersive.

I'm very confident that the maps can be implemented in Roll20. Is this a map of a castle or something like that? I've had Roll20 maps ranging from a room, to a castle, to a continent, to an entire globe. The tips given in the thread so far, should provide the guidance. Have you tried reducing the pixel size, resolution, or slicing it up in your external graphic editor? Let us know if you have more questions for it.
Gold, I just tried something different. It seems others have had the same problem as me. That said, I think I figured a way to make it work (fingers crossed) by reducing pixel size and the quality a bit before exporting to jpg. More to come. First, to feed the 5 mo. old.

I have all of Mike's maps in my game. sized the images in photoshop as closely as possible to the right size (math to get approx 70px grid) and most were ok. Some had to be cut into 2, namely abbey of st markovia argynvostholt tsolkenpass vistani camp The rest, excluding yesterhill (which is way too big of an area to use as a combat map, and too low resolution to be used as such), were good. I could give you the dimensions of the images if you would like. I still had to mess with them on roll20, but they are great.
Yeah, I'd really like to get those dimensions. That'd be great!
I will give you the dimensions I set the images to, and you can output to jpg files to see if they work under the 10MB max file size for Roll20. I had to cut a few into two chunks. Also note that it is not perfect. You will need to work the images to make them fit exactly to the grid in Roll20. It took me a bit, but not too long. Once you get the hang of it, it will be easy. This will save you some guessing. All dimensions are the width of the image in pixels, and i used Photoshop ok, here we go. Abbey of St. Markovia 5000 cut in half in application abbey, upper level 4900 amber temple, both levels 4364 argynvoslholt 1st and 2nd floor 4227 cut in half in aplication 3rd floor and roof 4364 creeping hut 960 coffin maker's shop 2100 church 1600 tser pool 2100 blue water inn 2300 N3 Burgomaster's mansion 2500 bone grinder 2240 tsolken pass 5236 cut in half in application van richtens tower 1273 Village of Barovia 2758 Vistani Camp 4970 cut in half in application Watchterhaus 2400 Werewolf Den 4254 Wizard of Wines 2546 I din't use the following as battle maps, but do have them in there, for positioning, so you can basically use them any size Berez Land of Barovia Town of Vallaki Krezk Yesterhill Good luck.
