Newbie calling for aid!! Need someone to show me the ropes on Shadowrun!!

Ok finally got what I need to make a character for Shadowrun, got a cool backstory planned out and everything. One problem, never played a game of Shadowrun in my life, or any tabletop RPG really. I need someone who can give me a crash course in the game. I understand the setting and world for the most part, the things I don't know will just add to the mystery ;), but the mechanics still confuse me. In particular character creation, thought it would be fairly simple but then things like "karma" and "priorities" were mentioned and I just lost the plot. So yeah, anyone willing to help me out?
The best way to learn any system is to get the core rule book/player's handbook. Shadowrun is one of those games that does not have open source material (like D&D or Pathfinder), so you might have to hit up Amazon for the book. Roll20 does not actually teach you how the game is played.
Thats kinda what I was afraid of :/ . Was hoping someone could just tell me the big need to know stuff. I would buy the rule book but I'm really short on cash at the moment and the book is around £70 - £80
King Crow, check out Reddit forums. Their RPG subreddits are usually pretty accomodating. https://www.reddit.com/r/Shadowrun/ Shadowrun doesn't get streamed nearly as much as D&D or Pathfinder, but you can find a few groups on Twitch to learn about it by watching live or recorded play. Watching a live Twitch Stream also lets you ask questions about how things work. (Shameless plug here- I stream our Thursday Shadowrun games at 8pmEST and some of us are completely new to the system so there's a lot of chat about mechanics and why things work the way they do. http://twitch.tv/markofthedragon Recorded Sessions: Long YouTube Link
i have the core rulebook but i find it hard to understand at some points but i want to play it and find a group who would let me play while understanding the mechanics behind the game.
Oooh! Nice one redfish, so this will pretty much sum up the majority of what I need to know? Will it help me with my character I'm making as well?
Currently trying to wrap my head around karma and lifestyles
