Skype use?

One thing I've noticed, while browsing the Looking for Group listings is that quite a lot of them ask for skype rather than use the within-app communication. Is there an advantage to doing so?
Many people have issues with the internal flash based voice chat. Almost every group I have been in and that has been a lot someone can't be heard or can't hear others. Google Hangouts is another popular option besides Skype, especially if you plan on recording or streaming your games. In fact I have teamspeak, mumble, raidcall, skype, and a google+ account all installed on my laptop just so I have my bases covered for whatever the group wants to use. To be fair to roll20 I do like the WebRTC but for some reason I think because it is not the default voice service people in most groups still rather use Skype or Google hangouts.

Flash has a lot of issues which is why the industry is moving towards WebRTC. However, WebRTC is only about a year old and it is a work in progress. So, what that means is that, within Roll20, the default Video/Voice is touchy and may not work for everyone and WebRTC is so new it is missing features (such as volume control) inside Roll20. Thus, people are using external resources or Google+ Hangouts. The drawback to Google+ is that it takes up a lot of screen space. - Gauss
Cool, thanks for that. I shall watch what happens when I start running a game.
The advantage for me as a DM using Skype is that I can record our session with a Skype recorder that activates as soon as the call is initiated.
