Monsters and Other Childish Things

I haven't been able to choose this as an option for a game, but is it possible to get character sheets for it? Would it even be possible to use them? If it is possible, here's the sheet for Players and the sheet for Monsters. Characters <a href="http://www.arcdream.com/pdf/Monsters%20Permanent%2" rel="nofollow">http://www.arcdream.com/pdf/Monsters%20Permanent%2</a>... So, I decided to procrastinate doing stuff I need to do and took a stab at creating the Character sheet (I'll work on the Monster one later)... Take a look at it&nbsp; here . I'm completely unfamiliar with the system so not sure what else is needed on this sheet. &nbsp; If there are roll buttons that you need, I just need to know how the rolls work so that buttons can be created and what you would need roll buttons for. I hope this helps.
Holy... I was hoping you could make it look even SLIGHTLY like the actual sheet, but this... I can freaking CIRCLE stuff in this! Amazing! You FAR exceeded my expectations. I knew Roll20 was awesome, but I didn't realize it could do THIS! As far as rolls go, all the rolls are dice pool rolls. This means it's d10s rolled in groups of no more than 10. Most often this would be a Stat + Skill roll like Feet + P.E. (assuming a Feet of 4 and P.E. of 3, that means rolling 7 die). You then group them up and pick a matching set (so lets say you roll 2, 2, 2, 5, 6, 7, 10. In this, there is only one group, the 2x3, which means 3 dice that are 2), and that is the set you apply to whatever action you're taking. In the case of monsters, they work very similarly, but you apply whatever traits you want to them within only some very vague limits. For a monster, you apply the hit locations from 1 to 10 in groups, and each section gets 5 dice per hit location applied to that group. So, I make a monster with Wicked Sharp Claws (7-8 hit locations), which means it has a total of 10 dice. Then, I can spend those dice on extras to improve that section at the cost of having fewer dice to roll when I use it. So I could take off 2 dice to make it do more damage, but it only rolls 8 dice instead of 10 now. I don't think you could really automate the damage or anything like that, since it requires picking a group, and then counting the number of dice there, subtracting 1, and adding any modifiers to it. If there is a way to let players declare their choice, that'd be nice, but not necessary. I'll be happy with just being able to output the data in groups with the touch of a button.

That will be important to know for the roll buttons. &nbsp; If it is never just a Stat, then I don't need a button next to Feet and the like, but if there is ever a Skill only roll...that will require some thought. There are ways around it, just need to determine the best approach. So, Monsters never roll more than 10 dice either? &nbsp; Can characters choose to roll fewer dice like monsters, or does that only apply to monsters?&nbsp; You're quite welcome. You are right in that it's always grouped like with like. It IS possible to roll a pure stat without a skill (as far as I remember), but never a skill without a stat. And yeah, nothing can ever roll more than 10 dice (if for some reason they have more, it's automatically reduced to 10 for dice rolling, though for other things like keeping track of damage it's still the full number of dice). You always roll the most dice you can, but Monsters (and players who have "Powers", rare as they are) can turn dice into effects. Like in my previous example on monsters. Even though the space would normally have 10 dice, 2 of those dice are sacrificed to make a stronger ability. It makes it less likely to go off, but also makes it more powerful. So, it's not so much that you are rolling fewer dice in the case of monsters, it's that each hit location has a set amount of dice applied to it, and those dice are traded for benefits. In the case of Kids, you have to purchase each dice anyway, so it's a bit different, but has the same end result if you're getting a Weird Skill.

So, in trying to figure out how the dice are determined, I'm assuming that the rating (1-5) for the Stats and Skills represent the number of dice. So, if my character were Gifted (5) in Feet, and Exceeds expectations (3) for Kicking, if were to roll for my kicking roll, I'd roll 8d10. Is that correct?
yes, thats how it works

Ok—so the character sheet is mostly done (I think)...I've added Roll Buttons and finished the Monster sheet and incorporated it as well (not sure how I feel about the background...tried to stay close to the source material, but...I'll let you all decide if the background image remains or goes away). Please give this a good run for it's money and let me know what's missing and/or broken. There is one weakness at the moment, and it's not something that is easily overcome...I'm still investigating things, though. &nbsp;Modifiers (adding and/or subtracting dice) isn't worked in yet. &nbsp;Honestly, I'm not sure I'll be able to get it worked in and have it function 100% of the time, even if I get the nesting figured out. There is a workaround that is not nice, but could work. &nbsp;I'll explain that later, if I'm not able to get things figured.
I don't have time right this second to do a full thorough check of everything, but is it possible to have the rolls say the name of the character in the header too? That way it is clear when a Kid is doing something vs when the Monster is. And some monsters can Share a power to their Kid, letting the Kid use a power with the same name. This way, it's easier to figure out who is rolling what (in theory).

No attribute was found for @{Grohu Izi|facestatName} This error shows up when rolling anything with Guts. And obviously the effect to add and remove dice doesn't work, which makes Feet and Feet: PE put out a bunch of garbage and roll like 50 dice even if only the amount it's suppose to roll is counted XD Also, when I try to add more than 1 ability to the monster, as soon as I type anything in it or change the dice it removes the second one.

Fixed the Guts problem (cut/paste error). Yeah, still working on the adding/subtracting dice, and that PE thing falls into that problem. Roll20 has been acting weird for me today...the repeating section shouldn't be doing that, and I can't see why it is. I'm going to try again tomorrow and if I have a problem I'll open a bug report.

So... I just thought of something that would be a nice quality of life upgrade if you can manage it (it can be worked on whenever, it's obviously not a priority or anything). Well, two things really. One, Kids have the ability to gain Weird Powers (thus making them Weird Kids), which is basically like adding a Skill that works like a Monster Power, in that it has Traits. Can you make it so the sheet supports the option of having this with the skills? It's not a necessity as Weird Skills aren't a part of the core rules, but from the second expansion, but it would be nice to have support for it (and if I had thought of it sooner, I'd have asked way back when). Two, can you make it so Monsters (and Kids if you can add the Weird Power stuff) have their traits for that roll displayed at the bottom of dice rolls?

Can describe what you envision for the placement of the Weird Skills? &nbsp;Where I'm going with this is...if it's basically the existing skills, just some of them may have a text box under them to describe the Trait, that's easy. If it's a matter of a whole new structure that's needed...that get's a little more complicated, but nothing impossible.&nbsp;

BTW - I had to change the name of the Repeating Section on the Monster sheet, but that seemed to have resolved the issue of the field disappearing. I have also modified the Roll Template to include the additional information I think you were wanting to display at the bottom. If I'm displaying the wrong thing, just let me know. :)

If it's a matter of a whole new structure that's needed...that get's a little more complicated, but nothing impossible.&nbsp; I'll let the book explain this one, as I'll basically be quoting it anyway XD Like regular skills, Weird Skills are attached to a particular stat, whichever one is most&nbsp;logical. A “Steel-Crushing Grip” would make sense under the Hands stat. A “Dreadful Stare”&nbsp;under Face. “Rocket Boots” under Feet. They’re a lot like monster powers, and in some ways a&nbsp;little better, and in others not quite so good.&nbsp; How awesome are Weird Skills? Pretty darned awesome. Unlike monster powers, you&nbsp;get to add your Stat to a Weird Skill when you roll to do it (just like a regular skill), and the&nbsp;amount of stuff, speed, and distance you can affect is determined by the total of your Stat and&nbsp;Weird Skill dice as per the table on page 44 of Monsters and Other Childish Things.&nbsp; For example, if I had a Brains-based Weird Skill called “Conjure the Dark Crows of the&nbsp;Carrion Kingdom” (a magicky sort of Weird Skill) with 5 dice, I’d add in my 3 dice of Brains,&nbsp;and refer to the Monster Might table on page 44 of Monsters and Other Childish Things to&nbsp;see how fast the murder of crows could fly in pursuit of the bully who stole my Danger Patrol&nbsp;Atomic Commando. (“It’s an action figure, not a doll!”). Eight total dice of monstery might&nbsp;means the crows can hit 256 miles per hour on the straightaways. Danny Thick-Neck is in&nbsp;trouble. That's the best explanation of Weird Skills I can get.

Just thought of another question...when adding dice from things like Relationships...is there a maximum number of dice that can be added? I've been assuming it was 5, because relationships only go up to five; but is it possible to get modifiers from more than one relationship at a time? Do I need to allow up to a plus 10? On a related noted...I'm assuming things like Feet, Hands, Face, Guts, etc will all be at least 1...can you roll skills that don't have any points in them? For example, let's say that my Feet is 2, but I don't have any points in P.E. would I ever make a P.E. roll in that situation?

As far as using multiple relationships... *opens the book to look that up* I'll be right back with an answer on that one. I don't even know if there's a max number of dice for relationships off the top of my head...

Well, the book has failed me, as it doesn't say anything either way :/ So, I'd have to guess I can probably use multiple relationships IF they were all appropriate, and that relationships can't have more than 5 dice in it (because like you said, the sheet only has 5). That's my best guess.

So, I probably need to care for a +9 dice to a roll (assuming a person must have at least a 1 in things like Feet, but maybe nothing in skills)....that will make things long and complicated. :-/ Any major concerns if I leave it at 5? I guess my questions is how frequently do we suspect multiple relationships to come into play? If it's rare, I'd rather not worry beyond 5.
it's rather rare. You can leave it at just 5 if it's working at least.

So...I finally got the query to work properly—currently it's only attached to the Feet and PE roll buttons...now I just gotta figure out how to get it actually add/subtract dice from the roll... &nbsp;I have some thoughts around it, but need to play around to see if I can get the logic right. &nbsp;Sorry it's taking so long.

I found out (the hard way) that it's slightly different if you're just building a macro on the Attributes & Abilities tab... Anyway, we'll see if I can slay this best within the next day or two. &nbsp;I think all I have left is to add the Weird Skills box and get the dice to actually add/subtract from the rolls. :)
@_@ &lt;--- that's my face just GLANCING at that. I can't understand a lick of it XD Looking forward to seeing it all working. I really appreciate the work you've put into it.

Thanks. I kind of put this here to remind myself to never do that again... :D
How's this going? I'm dying to play some Monsters and other Childish Things.

It's going...I hope to finish it this weekend (because I have to start getting ready for school). &nbsp; However, the spiffy roll template may have to go for now, until I have more time to work on it. So...I'll probably be reverting the dice rolls to /r ?d10s and letting it sort things like that. I'll do some things to make the roll a little bit better for everyone, but...the output won't be as cool as I was hoping. &nbsp;Sorry. But, the weird skills is now part of the sheet.

You've already gone above and beyond the call of duty with this. I appreciate whatever I get at this point. If eventually we get the template working, great, but I'm not gonna stress over it. I'm happy just having a sheet to work with.

Ok, I think I'm done...kick the tires and let me know what needs to change. Once I get the thumbs up, I'll get this submitted through github so it can become available from the drop down.

Ok, I believe I've corrected everything and added a minor enhancement to the rolls (at least I hope it's an enhancement). Take a look and let me know if anything else needs to be modified/changed/added.

.... Can't believe I forgot this until now, but monster rolls can get modifiers too, so they need to get that function added to them as well. Otherwise, all the bugs appear to be gone, and it's looking great.

Ok, monster rolls now include the modifier query. &nbsp;Anything else? :)
Not that I can find now. Great job! And thanks a lot!

Sorry for the delay...my weekend was consumed with life. &nbsp;Anyway, I have created the pull request (#1832) to get this character sheet into the main drop down. &nbsp; That means with the next Merge it should begin making it's way there. I'll let you all know once the merge has happened.
Awesome. Looking forward to it. Thanks again for all your hard work.

Thanks for all your hard work Findersky! You're an amazing sheet author! Keep up the great work, and good luck in the future. If anyone plans to run a game, let me know. I'd run one, but I'm a bit limited on time so I don't think I could devote enough time to making a campaign myself. I have enough to play in one though, since that doesn't take as much time. I also know a few people that might be interested in joining such a campaign as well, though no guarantees.
