So I wanted to share a small portion of writing with you all to see what you all think. I have always really told my tales verbally so getting it moved from my head to paper has been interesting so far. ~The Capital city of Abruzzo The seat of the kingdom of Royce, on the shiny outside is a strong land with a capable ruler. Gleaming towers of black and white reaching towards the sky and below those towers a major city thrives. The streets are busy and the people of Royce enjoy a good life, but for those in the know, that facade is quickly stripped away. Not many are more well-versed on the internal workings of Royce than Sebastian, the Royal counselor to the Queen. Sixteen years ago the King was killed during a small conflict that occurred during a royal visit to Ravenna. A local trade conflict had reached a fever pitch when the King arrived to speak with the Viceroy about military matters. During this conflict a stray bolt from a crossbow pierced the King’s neck killing him almost instantly. Sebastian and many others have called these random events into question but years of inquiries and research found the man that was at the other side of the crossbow that day but he died before he could face justice and his house was burned to the ground along with several blocks around the possible assassin’s home. One year ago the crown prince Draxx also vanished, again no one is able to prove any ill intent but the Prince was never known to be a reckless young man and running away did not fit his personality. No, Sebastian was convinced something else was at work here something sinister. Walking through the marbled white halls of the royal palace at Abruzzo, Sebastian arrives outside the Queen’s meeting room to discuss these events. He presses open the large oaken doors leading into the Queen’s meeting room with a groan coming from both the man and the doors they swing open. This was the personal meeting room for the Queen, the room is over sixty foot long and along the north wall stunning stained glass windows depict the life of Drake Royce, the first king of Royce. Filling the center of the room is a 30 foot long oak and spruce table crafted by the elves long ago as a gift the the Royce family. ‘Good morning my Queen.’ states Sebastian as he enters the meeting room ‘I am sorry it took me a few moments to get here.’ he bows towards her as he enters the room. Sitting at the head of a grand table is Queen Miranda Royce, an attractive middle-aged woman, her blonde hair slightly greying here and there. She is flanked by two guards who are dressed in full plate armor the coat of arms of Royce, a laurel surrounding a sword on a yellow background. ‘Please have a seat Sebastian, let's talk about what you have found.’ the Queen motions to the seat just off to her left. Sebastian pulls the chair out, making a loud creaking sound as the heavy chair slides against the stone. He sits down and begins to fidget with a stack of documents, scrolls and maps. It appears that Sebastian had not slept in some time. He finally comes across his notes among the various papers. ‘My Queen, I think I may have some proof that Draxx was taken but as of yet I have not been able to track down the abductors and I do not have any proof if he is still alive nor do I have any evidence he is not. I would have expected a ransom demand or some form of communication by now. Several local arcane spellcasters have scryed and did not find any trail of him which I have to say is a hopeful sign. I plan on travelling to Almeria to consult with the Oracle there, her powers surpass any of the local magi.’ ‘Sebastian you have been so faithful to our family and I hope you find my son, he is all I have left.’, turning towards one of her personal guardsmen ‘You will journey with Sebastian and ensure his safety.’ The young guard snaps to attention, ‘As you command.’ He bows deeply. ‘Alec, you will leave with Sebastian as soon as possible.’ Alec was newly assigned just this morning to stand watch in the Queen’s meeting room. He has only been in the capital for 2 weeks, having only recently finishing his rigorous 1 year training. He was told he would be in the capital this week but he had no idea he would standing with the Queen. ‘She actually knows my name.’ the young guard thinks to himself. Sebastian and Alec go to leave the meeting hall together, the guards assisting Sebastian in carrying some of the documents and papers. Even with the help Sebastian drops a scroll case on the floor and uses his foot the dribble it out the door before asking for Alec’s help to retrieve the stray scroll. ‘Alex, was it? Would you be so kind as to grab that case? Also can you please arrange for a carriage for us to head out with all haste to Almeria. Oh and gather some of your things I believe this is just the beginning of a long journey.’ hugging all of the documents to his chest the advisor leaves the guard in the hall. ‘I will be down in about one hour and we shall set out.’ Sebastian peers back around the corner, he then hurries down the marbled halls towards his personal bedchamber to prepare for the journey. Now standing alone in the hall the guard mutters ‘It’s Alec actually.’ But Sebastian has already disappeared down the hall. The young man hurries off to arrange the carriage and gather some of his personal effects for the long journey to the coastal city of Almeria. ~~~
