Advice for DMs looking for players

So I've been playing on roll20 for awhile now. I'm currently playing in two groups. I've had some pretty rough experiences in the past with new groups. I've seen the DMs struggle with players with different playing styles and attitudes towards gaming. When DMs post openings in their games they get a lot of people interested. It's hard to tell what people will be like until you play so I've discovered that creating survey's are a godsend. Make questions of things that are relevant to you and your game, like playing styles or questions about being late ect.. Here's an examlpe of a survey I whipped up. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1xEB4oVGS3BxIWxbTy... Cheers and good luck!

Basically the same idea as the Same Page Tool . You want to make sure everyone (both players and GM) are on the same page. The SPT is designed more for directing a discussion to be held during Session Zero than to weed out potential players, but it is certainly overall a good idea to make sure everybody want to have the same kind of fun in the game.

That's cool. I did a similar thing but I can see now that converting it to a survey would make it better.
I normally make very clear what i am looking for in players, what the houserules are and what the character creation rules will be and of course what is going to get played, the theme and everything else. People then can either show interest or not. But generally i end up with players who know what they buy into and i receive far less complaints plus the parties often work together incredibly well. I'm just very aware that there are at any given time too few GMs to run games for everyone. Giving me the ability to control what i want in my games for the overall good of the campaign i'm GMing. Sure is arrogant. But works.

I like surveys or the 'same page tool' because I'm interested in what people like and I can screen for people who might not fit for the campaign. They're kind of like an application lol. For instance murderhobos, PC's who threaten or steal from other party members. I know a lot of players do it but I personally wouldn't want it in my game and it's one of those things you won't be able to pick up on until you play.
