Timer or Hourglass feature

Wouldn't a timer or a hourglass (or both!) feature be really cool for game sessions sometimes? Not only would it be useful for tracking game time, if desired, it could also be introduced as a time constraint for an encounter where that's required, so that the players can actually see time ticking down and, if all goes according to plan, get a little rush in the process and have to hastily make decisions! For example, maybe the room is crumbling and is going to collapse in two minutes because of a certain trigger or maybe the guard that is patrolling an area is going to come back around in 1 minute from the PC's observations of his movements, so they need to do whatever they need to do in the area quickly, Mission Impossible style. Wouldn't that be a really cool and quite easily implemented feature that'd spice up the gameplay?
