This has been driving me nuts for 3 years, so I should have said something sooner. When I group something (using the group function, so that 1 click selects all of those objects together), then paste that group, then click to select the new object, that first click grabs whatever individual object in the group I physically clicked on, and moves just that. This isn't really a huge issue, but map making would be a bit easier if this were not the case.
