LFG [D&D 5E] Werewolf Friendly

Along with trying to find a DM for a group I already have going for Friday nights I'm also in search of a campaign to go for other days for myself. Though I'm not completely certain of my work schedule until next week I would still like to see what options I can get. Information about myself and my character below; • Name: Skyler • Age: 22 • Timezone: Eastern Standard Time ~ Short description of myself: ~ I am honestly a ftm emo twink who's in the furry fandom. I'm rather different yes but kind natured and open-minded at least. ~ D&D Experience: ~ I've excitedly done many hours worth of research on D&D, watched multiple videos of people playing both the tabletop and here on Roll20 of 5E, and spent days making my character only to be unable to use him for a year because out DM flaked out on us. I did DM for one night because I was the only one who knew anything about it out of three other people wanting to try it. • Character's name: Tysk • Race: Wood Elf (and here's the tricky part; he's a lycanthrope. I need a DM who will allow this because it's a big thing for the character and myself) • Class: Fighter/Druid (or just fighter) • Armor/Weapons: Duel wielding swords as a primary weapon, bow as secondary, and heavy armor. • Alignment: Chaotic Neutral ~ Background: ~ He was born in a small lycanthrope civilization far in the wooded mountains; later finding his way to the druidic structure set very near to his home. The nature loving druids were compassionate and harmonious with the neighboring lycanthropes and taught him how to shift to wood elf form in case of necessity for they feared what humanoids with superstition poisoned minds would do to this semi-peaceful clan of lycanthropes. He spent half of his life flitting between the lycanthropes and the archives of the druidic temple learning from the world wise druids and books, one day deciding to venture forth on his own. ~ Brief Description: ~ Tysk's heart is in nature. Caring deeply for wildlife but harboring a strong distaste for humanoids who harm it. He has rather animalistic mannerisms that he tries very little to hide. He lacks social skills, but tends to find humor in things, is very distrustful and slow to warm up to humanoids but fiercely loyal and protective once that trust is gained. • Physical Description: (basically my profile picture on here) Very thin and lanky, often causing bewilderment as to where his strength comes from. Around 5'4" in height, blue eyes that glow in dim light, dark brown hair, and rather pale skin.
Can honestly not see any sensible GM allowing someone to start off with Lycanthropy. Immune to Bludgeoning, Slashing and Piercing from any none magic or silvered weapons at level 1? they would have to be mad. Not to mention the rest of the benefits and negatives (such as your pretty much a GM controlled person if you chose it and its got totally control of you. Used to be one sure. But here is a Link to the races of Eberron. Shifters are there and they (supposedly) are some form of lycanthrope based thing (I remember they were a race in 4e). That (possibly with some tweaking as they look a tad underwhelming, and thats GM tweaking not you as its up to them) race would be your best bet.
Doesn't it give you resistance to non-magical stuff?
I figured I'd get a little resistance for that. Though; I thought the point of D&D was creativity and the only limit being ones own imagination. Taking off and leaving out the immunities to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing would be simple and I think that's far too OP anyway. Nothing says you absolutely HAVE to go with the vanilla version of a race and can't customize and condition it appropriately to suit the circumstances. I'd rather find a DM who's okay with that sort of tweaking than go for a different race altogether.
No, I was saying it gives you resistance (not straight-out immunity) to non-magical stuff, just making a comment. I'm very much the homebrew dm in all honesty. My favorite "race" by far is still the half-dragon template from 3.5.
Sorry I was actually replying to the person above you before seeing yours XD. I'm not extremely well versed in homebrew but I have seen a couple races from that. In all honesty I've just always wanted to play a werewolf character in rpgs but very few video games support that and turns out very few DMs support that as well so I have no luck haha.
The funny thing about it is that the first character I ever played in dnd was a lycanthrope, not at the start, but it was still cool nonetheless. I don't know if I have a day that I'd be able to run the game because I'm actually starting to fill out my schedule again, but if you want I could try.
Only if it's no trouble for you <(^.=.^)>
Okay, what does your group usually use for communication, skype?
Well right now we're just using Facebook messenger haha. We've figured out that all our schedules work with Friday nights. If you want to know about the group; • There are currently five of us (MAY be getting more); one very experienced with the game as well as Roll20, three have barely played before but have been wanting to for a very long time, and one has no experience whatsoever. ALL experienced in roleplaying in general however. We're not completely certain but so far we're looking at a cleric, a fighter/druid, a bard or druid, a warlock, and unsure. In said group also two werewolves and a vampire haha. • Voice chat is mandatory, we'd like full use of maps and figures, appropriate music (if at all possible), and humor and voice acting is highly encouraged and appreciated! The general concept is just medieval fantasy so please no guns or lasers or anything like that. And the DM can take it from there with full creative freedom and have fun putting us through stuff X3.
Okay, I normally use skype for stuff (I don't usually use facebook). I may be able to do Friday, it depends on when we start (I could start at 4pm pst and end at about 7-8 or so).
I think most of us rarely use Skype haha. I'm not even sure how to do group chats in there honestly. If you CAN'T use Facebook than we'll have to figure out something. And I'd have to ask if around 4 is alright. I'm figuring out my own working schedule next week. Though we can always make it a little later if some of us are unable I hope?
I know how to make a group, it works pretty well actually. Either that or we could use discord.
I have no idea what discord is so a group on here sounds perfect! Though half of us are asleep right now and one still hasn't made his account haha.
Yeah the thing about wanting to be a werewolf is that it turns a lot of players off since you have heavy advantages to weapons and combat with no real disadvantages.
Make those werewolf variant vulnerable against wood. problem solved.
A minor suggestion would be to look at games that allow for Werewolves (or shapeshifters) that aren't D&D. I get that D&D5e is the new hotness that everyone absolutely needs to play, but it's still a mechanically bland system, and Werewolves are a powerful option that most GMs will balk at and deny. So, why not pick up a system where it's not the case? Look at other options where you get your cake, and the GM has better options to balance around you, instead of just nerfing your character into the ground on creation?
World of Darkness (while a vastly different system than D&D) has a supplement just for Werewolves to go along with Animus' suggestion.
Yeah honestly, gonna second (third?) that notion and suggest you check out Werewolf: the Apocalypse or something similar. Are the werewolves in WtA still overpowered? Sure, I've seen that argument made. But if everyone's a werewolf, it doesn't really matter. It's also--to me at least--the WoD game most similar to D&D. Added bonus: in my experience (and I've been playing WtA for donkey's years) it's very furry friendly; there's a fair amount of overlap between the two communities. So yeah. You might want to see if there are any STs willing to let you into a WtA game instead?
Exalted is a swords & sandals fantasy RPG that has a supplement entirely for Shapeshifting demi-beings called Lunar. They're functionally similar to Werewolves in WoD (same base system, different mechanics). The last edition isn't amazing, but there's a few homebrew supplements for the new edition to port them over.
I most certainly plan on checking out Werewolf: The Apocalypse in the future. Though I'm far too invested into the world of D&D even if it means finding a DM who is willing to go with the lycanthrope character concept (of which I've found two) is a bit more difficult. Though I by all means do not want an OP character. I find that this http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Lycanthrope which I'm basing the stats off of does a fair job of not making it ridiculously overpowered. The resistances however I've excluded. After all; why would the developers make a game that's only limited to imagination and put lycanthropes and their condition as a contagious affliction if they didn't expect people to want to try it? Honestly I wish alot more games would have the option; the only RPG that I can think of that's not based around werewolves but has the option to be one is Elder Scrolls (I think starting with Morrowind?).
Just tell the GM your lycanthropy is a flavor and you do not want any stat bonuses or abilities with it. A good GM may allow you to do that as a free action whenever you feel like for roleplay purposes. Problem solved.
Monsters as pcs is nothing new in any D&D edition so dont get discouraged by critical naysayers. I've played a werewolf char in 5e, though not initially planned to be. While they do get advantages at lower levels these can be countered by a savvy enough dm or higher level play. Also being a werewolf presents many rp challenges especially outside of combat and those can be fun to explore if people are mature about it.

In the group I'm in we have two werewolves (one afflicted and one natural) and a vampire; it really makes thing interesting roleplay wise.
