RP The Fell Handed

At the end Vâltyr was left with his own thoughts, and the useless stump that used to be his left hand, it used to be his second tool of dealing death, he felt like a dancer that had lost a leg. He had come to Maladon for adventure and pursuit of martial perfection, now his hand was missing and his art, his dance was gimped. He spendt what felt like hours swinging his arm as if his hand was still there holding his battleaxe, emotions swinging between anger, frustration and desperation. He found some booze at the port, and as he was sitting there he endured the looks of pity people while reminiscing of something Captain Veler told him once while they were shipwrecked, starving and desperate. "All men are tested by the gods, those exalted by the fates even more so. When people say the gods are cruel they misunderstand the reason for their misfortune. The gods aren't cruel, they are demanding. You consider yourself unlucky for us beeing shipwrecked, but in truth you are lucky. The fates are testing if you are worth of greatness. The harsher your trial the greater a role in our future they want you to play." This was simply a test, it had to be! There had to be a reason he awoke in that staircase, he had seen men die of lesser injuries but he did not. In a moment of clarity he started pondering his options, hunting? No he was a warrior first and foremost. Prayer? He had never been an overly religious man, he could have sacrificed an eye but it wasn't knowledge he was after and he had allready lost a hand. Vâltyr started walking along the coast roaring his promise to the gods, "You seek to break me!? You think me this weak? I cannot, and will not beg for anything. But know this, i will endure, i will go on honouring you the only way i know how!" Waking up the next day Vâltyr remembered the previous evening, and started thinking about his actual options, the best way forward he decided was getting back to Haven and find a way to attach his battleaxe to bracer on his arm. Then finding someone to train with untill fighting with it came naturally. The Red Dragon Brigade might help him with this, if not he would just post a notice. But first he had to make it back to Haven, the boat was leaving tomorow so it wouldn't be long. OOC: Would like that start an RP thread here as i begin Vâltyr's journey of finding a way to fight with both arms again.

Excellent idea! It is from this that legends are born. This will be possible VRH; it will take 1 month of intensive training, but by the end, you will suffer no penalties.

Lightning had struck twice. Vâltyr had forced it to the back of his mind for the entire trip back to Haven but the truth could no longer be denied. He could no longer benefit the true emperor and his empire in any way. He was a parasite, crippled and weak. He would be unable to fight in the upcoming civil war. Vâltyr was staring straight at what would be a crux in the fate of the imperium, and he was powerless to add his strength to the outcome. The shame was sanity shattering, as he spendt an entire day sitting by a table leaning on his elbows, head slumped forwards looking at his stumps. Eating and drinking when a bar maid tok pity on him and fed him some bread and water. The following morning the almost drowned out voice that was reason and pride forced him to get up and try, Vâltyr didn't see what there was to try, but he would try regardless, he hadn't sleept or eaten well for a few days now and this for some reason made it easier to think. Vâltyr went to look around the Red Dragon Inn and on a board he found mention of a powerful healer on the Fey Isles, he made a mental note of it and moved out to the docks. It was early in the morning so the buzz in Haven had not quite picked up yet. He spendt some time looking out towards the sea, thinking of his previous mission and how Pyrrha had sacrificed a leg to save him. He also remembered Kroasi mentioning a Kron in the Vale that might also be able to help. As activity picked up outside Vâltyr headed back inside, determined that he could not lie down and die. He had sworn to save Silver and he owed his life to Pyrrha, he would at the very least find a way to repay these debts before passing. Walking back inside the Red Dragon Inn Vâltyr came face to face with the statue of Silver, and the answer. It had to be. He recalled Ekru mentioning some avatars on Khulican, he had been on Khulican and had planned to inquire about these but the fates never gave him a chance. Vâltyr realized then that this was where he was mistaken. In a moment of clarity it all made sense, losing his first hand was the fates way of telling him he needed to go see these avatars like they intended. He had missed this incredibly obvious sign it the first time he was there, and by continuing to ignore the signs he was punished by losing his second hand as well. This was not a mistake Vâltyr would make again, spending the rest of the day inquiring and learning what he could about the avatars and the healer on the Fey Isles. Planning to sail for Khulcan first thing the next morning, he would find these avatars, come hell or high water, costing Vâltyr his eye or whatever else it may. He would find his way back on the path the fates had intended. Armed with this knowledge he went to bed, prepared for the Journey to Khulican unless some other sign was given.
After Valtyr returning from Borian Argus would approach him a few days later "I've 'eard what 'as happened ta you on dat island. I saw you when you lost your first 'and and you took it well, even with pride, a sign of a strong warrior and dat I respect. It was proof of your being brave even when you could 'ave 'idden behind me and Kaar. I resepct dat." And he claps you on the back. "Dere are too little of da kind of ya. I know, you will go on and fight even without da hands and if you can't 'it 'em you will bite 'em,  dat is da kinda fellow you are. But I think dat you can do more with hands dan without 'em. I cannot promise you anything but I 'eard dat avatars might be able to restore you what you've lost. I am 'ere ta find such an avatar of a god I do not know da name of, but I know it's power and I think it'd like your spirit. Fightin and not 'idin, fightin til da end and still bein honest and honourable. I would be 'onoured ta 'ave you with me in search of dat avatar. But I 'ave to warn you, it is on Khulican on dat island of da strange dwarves. Now I don't mind da dwarves and think they are 'onorble and dey make excellent lamps. Really, you shoulda seen dem...  I just think dey are a bit obsessed with da cat. Went all quiet and strange when I didn't want ta share my food with it..."
Vâltyr looks at Argus, a newly kindled flame burning in his eyes. "Well it seems the fates goals and my own finally align." he says and smiles. "Thank you for the kind words Argus, i will join you in your quest to find the avatar, im ashamed to say i know very little, if anything about it, and even with my strength in combat hampered i will still fight. Tell me, do you have any other friends joining us in this?" Vâltyr sighs and looks as his stumps. "Regardless, for now you tell me where we go and i will follow, once you are ready to set out you can find me at the Red Dragon, i will hire an assistant for the duration to assist me with daily needs as well as arming me for battle so i do not become a burden on the rest of you. Yet again i will thank you for this oppurtunity, and if there is nothing else i will need another gauntlet made."
There are three ships out of Haven making regular trips south to Fur Island and Fort Vedinia now, the Gull is the fastest generally taking three days to get there and therefore charges five gold pieces for individuals not working on company business. The slower ships charge three gold but take between five and eight days depending on the weather, charging only three gold for the passage. Once at Fort Vedinia the nearest avatar is just across the river, at the Dwarven Fort of Soto, but no admittance is permitted to foreigners. Sico lies a days journey east along the coast but you may have heard rumours that her ire is quick to rise. North and on the edge of a small forest called the Scalded Woods lies the fane of Imac, a figure who has rendered aid and favour to imperial travellers on occaison. His temple is surrounded by a camp of the militant order of Wardens of Khulican, counted among their order is the Waysider Raven, of the Unicorns whose word can buy admittance.

Having had a vision in his sleep Vâltyr has decided that he must sail for Khulican immediately, knowing he would be gone for a while he will settle his business in Haven before leaving. A letter containing a ring will be sent to Gabbi in the upper city, with a letter. "I have had the further misfortune of losing my second and, so even now there is another person writing this for me. In the pursuit of earning my hands back i must sail for Khulican at once, i will be gone for a while and in the meantime i decided this ring should be kept with you for safekeeping as you are its owner just as much as i am. I would leave it with the white horses but i fear i would never see it again if i did. Regardless i have discerned how it works. Every time you put it on there is a chance it will blind you, if this happens you will not be able to take it off again untill the next dawn. If it does not blind you it indeed gives you the ability to see in the dark, i find the latter is a much more common result of putting the ring on but just be warned. I hope you and Thorin have made progress with the basilisk eggs and if not i hope the ring will bring you the breakthrough you need. Regardless my ship is leaving now, i will seek you out when i return, and we can speak then. Best Regards Vâltyr Agnarsson" He would also inform the red dragons that if anyone came asking for him regarding a ring to speak to Gabbi. ----------------------- Vâltyr would seek out Argus and inform him of his decision to head to Khulican immediately. "Since last we spoke yesterday i've had a vision, the fates promise me my hands back if i head to Khulican and consult the avatar Imac. Any more detail than that i cannot give but i promise you once i return, sometime towards the end of Havis i will uphold my promise to help you find this avatar you seek. In fact knowing Sico might be of great help in your mission. Finally i want you to extend my regrets to Cain for not beeing able to attend his feast, the fates have taken two hands for me to understand my true path in this world. It still ends in the same place but the way is not the one i would have thought when i came here. ------------------------- He would find Dain and Pyrrah, thanking them for saving his life and informing Pyrrha he will not forget the debt he is in for your leg, and if the fates wills it he might find a way to give her back what she sacrificed to save him. ------------------------- Finally before leaving he would find Dux "I am afraid you will be left with sorting out the details to Luca's funeral as the fates calls me to Khulican, it is urgent and i wish not to anger them any further by delaying. I also suspect this venture might also help Silver if i am fortunate, because of this i will leave his body and the 550gold pieces promised to bring him back in your safekeeping, if i send word for you to bring him to Khulican you will know i have succeeded and i beg you to come as soon as possible should this happen. I will be gone a good while but i am certain we will see each other again, stay on the true path and your gods will see you through whatever awaits you. You might find we have more in common when i return."
VRH said: "Since last we spoke yesterday i've had a vision, the fates promise me my hands back if i head to Khulican and consult the avatar Sico ." Are you sure the fates didn't say Imac? After the Cain incident Sico is not exactly receptive to foreign requests for boons.
"I will handle things in your stead while you are away friend! Safe travels and fair winds, may you ever bathe in Sols light." Dux pats him on the shoulder and sees him of to his boat.
