RP: dividing the treasure from the Disuthasin mines.

1471515075

Edited 1471517493
Kromnir looked across the room at the companions gathered there. Nyx and Lux were missing, so that just left: Kaar, Vâltyr, Aineaasal, Argus and me, "Okay, this is what I suggest on how to deal with the treasure we found. Obviously everyone is getting a reward for the expedition, but this is apart from that". "This is what we have so far" "1 large platinum coin, 29 gold pieces, 328 silver, 1 bloodstone, 1 perl, 1 onyx and 1 crysopis" "In addition, we have a throwing war hammer which seems to have some enchantment on it, and as you know the crown is not here because Lux decided to put it on and run away with it. We have a mining pick and lastly we have two halves a broken ruby." "As for the money, I trust everyone will be okay with it being divided equally among ourselves". "As for the common gems, I suggest that we sell them and divide the proceeds equally as well". "As for the war hammer, it doesn't seem to be a magical weapon beyond its explosive effect, as it wasn't able to penetrate the ghost's defences. Even so, I'd be interested in purchasing it from the rest of the party. It just feels... right in my hand. Not just because it's a weapon crafted by my people, but there's something about it that calls to me". "As for the gems, something tells me there might be more about them than we might suspect. I suggest we have them identified or checked for magic" "Lastly, we also found a well-preserved miner pick. I suggest we also have it identified and then we decide what to do about it".
Argus looks at all that and then says: "Aye think we should 'ave those things valued first. Also dat crown if we can. I 'ave no idea 'ow much dey pay for dat coin." He points out that the gold and silver can be added as 61 god and 3 silver is 8 gp and 7 silver  leaving 4 silver to be given to whoever claims them. He wishes the items identified and then the pick and hammer probably be returned to their rightful owners, the Khuli dwarves. "If dey are to be allies of da white emperor, den we shoul' give dem what is deirs..., should dey not wan' it den we whoeva keeps it 'as to buy out de othas"

Vâltyr waits patiently for Kromnir and Argus to declare where they stand, primarily the magic items, before he speaks: "I agree we should get the gems appraised, sold and gold shared, alltho i wonder if the platinum coin and the ruby has something special about them. On what to do with the magic items i think the dwarves should be given the option to get them back, but first they need to be identified so we know what we have. Even if this means bringing them back to Haven first. The pick is of no particular use to me, but beeing of the divination school i suspect it might aid in finding gems. The hammer while i understand your desire to keep it Kromnir i think it is best if the local dwarves are made aware we found it, as well as the pick and possibly even the coin. I am sure you can make a case to be allowed to keep it. I just wouldn't want to learn later that we have greatly insulted our allies by not informing them entirely of all we found in the mines. Finally on the subject of the gold we will divide it all up once we have sold all we want to sell."

Kromnir listens attentively to the half-orc cleric and says: - "Master Argus, thanks for your calculations. That sounds correct to me regarding the gold and the silver, and if everyone is okay we could donate the four leftover silver to a charitable organisation". Kromnir listens to Vâltyr, rubs his beard pensively and says: "As for the items, the orders were very clear. We were meant to go in the mine and clear it of creatures, and we did so with merciless efficiency" - as he says this he glares at Argus - "recovering any objects does not fall within the purview of the terms of the expedition. If my people had intended for any items to be recovered, they would have specified so in the instructions. As it is, we are under no obligation, legal or moral, to return the items to them". He stops rubbing his beard, sighs and say: "However, if the majority think we should show the items to my fellow dwarfs first, I will accept the decision. He shrugs his shoulders and waits for a response.
Vâltyr smiles "Thank you master dwarf for seeing my side of things, i agree we are under no obligation to give them back but i think it will, barring a disastrous meltdown in negotiations. Demonstrate our good will towards the allies of the Emperor. I'm also almost certain they will not object to you keeping the hammer unless it is of immense value, in which case the importance of beeing honest increases. I would not want every dwarf on Khulican think me a thief, even if we agree we only claimed our due."

"Your words make sense but I won't change my mind". "In the meanwhile, we should have them identified. Does any of you know a mage in this city that could help with this? If so, I bid you to go with the items and ask them about it". He turns to Aineaasal and Kaar: "And as for you, what do you think? Should we identify and share the magical weapons and tools among ourselves or possibly give them away to my Enkhuli brothers?".
Argus looks at Kromnir: "Most of yer ppl 'ave strickn me as peculiar yet 'onorable. If dey decide dey want ta keep some of da items den I'm sure dey will" and he scratches his head "c.. compensate.. compensate us for it. Otherwise I agree with Valtyr. Da coin may or may not be of value, but I don see any engravin's on it... "Regardin da crown, last I 'eard dat gal Lux was runnin around naked at da docks... might be dat she is receivin 'er justice already..."
Aineasal turns to Kromnir with puzzled face 'well..... of course we should identify the items they could be worth a fortune, what fool wouldn't... And no I don't think we should give anything to your brothers, you didn't see them coming down here and fighting for their souls in these mines, no, they ran away, they don't deserve what we found. And if they had found it before hand then it could not have of been of much worth to them as it was still down there...'
Vâltyr sighs "Well i guess there is no reason not to share my thoughts, besides it beeing the right thing to do. I hope showing the dwarves the items would put me in a position to negotiate them make me a proper gauntlet" Gesturing at his missing left hand. "I figure they are the best option i know of to get it done properly, as it needs to serve in combat or it would be useless. I was hoping to trade the pick to this end." "Kaar, be sure to let me know if i can do anything to help with Lux as she is your friend, but otherwise i intend to return to Haven at first oppurtunity and look for a training partner so i can get used to fighting properly again."
So before the timeline moves on too far, you guys going to come to a consensus?

I've fond Lux. Don't worry I haven't harmed her, after finding her I deemed the crown not as big a danger as I first thought and at the moment helping her with the crown, As for the treasure I say ask if it has any meaning to the dwarfs, I don't want to take someone's long lost hammer (or any of the other items) from them but if its just a nice hammer/stuff or there all right with us having it, then we keep it, this way is all fair and we piss any one off.      Sorry for the late reply haven't had much free time.
So to summarise, and please correct me if I'm wrong: - We will take the pick, the hammer, the platinum coin and the broken half of the ruby to be identified and then we will ask the Enkhuli dwarfs about them.
Argus nods

Well if you want to get stuff identified you'll need to head back to haven first, unless one of you has the spell. The White Horse Company doesn't operate on Khulican and the South Maladon Company haven't hired that many casters.

I suppose if we are going to show the items to the Enkhuli dwarfs no matter what, we might as well do it while we are in the area.
Kaar has detect magic so I can check what kind(if any) of magic there is.
Things that are magic; The Miner's Pick (Divination) The Throwing Warhammer (Evocation) Things that do not show an aura of magic; The two halves of the Ruby The strange Platinum Coin
In that case, I think we would now bring all the items and show them to the Enkhuli dwarfs.

"I guess we place our trust in the dwarves to value the items, allright then."
Argus nods at everyone and then puts everything in a bag. "I'm happy dat we came to dis conclusion, seems like we 'ave an 'onorable group 'ere." "Now where do we go to put dat stuff to da Khuli? Da tradas or da caravan guards?" He waits for a reply and then heads towards the nearest trader or the nearest guard and waits for his fellow companions to catch up to present the items. When they are presented Argus will point out the schools of magic that were detected and that these two are magical, the pick and the hammer, whereas the others are not. He will also describe the effect of the hammer that was discovered when it was thrown onto the mushrooms.
I was reminded about attunement and such today(thank clarence!) so you can learn some stuff; The strange shiny pick you do not seem to be able to learn any more from despite your examinations though, you know that it a miner's pick rather than a war pick and not suited for use combat(if you did use it in a fight it would be an improvised weapon dealing 1d4 piercing and would not count as magical). Judging by where you found it, it's metal is impervious to rust and the pale wood of the handle immune to rot and decay. It is definitely enchanted with some magic with an effect from the school of divination but more than this eludes you. After time spent with the hammer however, experimenting and attuning and such you do learn it's total effects. It is a magically enchanted weapon giving it +1 to hit and to damage and it has one charge that regenerates each day after dawn(the sun must be fully risen). If it has a charge and is thrown the warhammer automatically and unneringly strikes its target with the power of a thunderclap, if the target is within 120ft and not behind total cover, dealing 1d8 bludgeoning damage plus 1d8 thunder damage. Once used in this way the charge is expended and the weapon ceases to be magical until it's charge regenerates. The warhammer is still specially construted and balanced to be thrown despite it's size, and has a range of 20/60 when thrown without a charge. The dwarven trader looks the warhammer over carefully as you present it to him and try to explain your conclusions. He gets out a lense and carefully examines the grip and pommel. "Hmmm, much old. Know of it. How say... officer? High officer weapon, yes." he lays it carefully to one side and then examines the pick with even more interest and attention, his eye, magnified hugely by the glass lense examining it's every detail. "Such pick, very mine. Much good, yes. Made in 27th age by Gorima Enca'Meumo Vilco Arill." He lays it down next to warhammer with care and then turns back to the party, clapping his hands together. "So! Want sell?"

Vâltyr steps forward and greets the trader. "Afraid i can't make any promises there master dwarf, but what i would ask is what you would give for each of these items." Pointing at the pick and the hammer in turn.
The trader grins and brings out a large box made of laquered wood and lavishly inlaid with nacre and precious stones. He opens the lid and withdraws a polished bronze bowl and a crystaline glass bottle filled with a golden coloured oil. He pours a measure of the liquid into the bowl and then sets it alight, filling the air with a powerful but pleasant aroma, then he takes out a silver coin and drops it into the burning oil with a reverence. His ritual completed he looks back to the party. "Hmm. For both, I give ten... this;" He places down ten twelve-sided coins, each a little over an inch in diameter made of rosey gold coloured metal and inlad with incrediby detaild geometric fractal patterns in a different bluish-silver metal on one side and an embossed symbol with the image of cats at either side of it on the other, also in the pale metal. Kromnir would know the coins as 'Teachers', named because the symbol between the two cat supporters represents the High Priest of Khuli in power when the coin was minted. These are high value coins rarely seen day-to-day but favoured by traders of pricey items since they are much easier to carry than large numbers of smaller denominations or the more valuable gem-stones.
Vâltyr smiles and nods. "Please excuse us master dwarf, as you can see there are several of us and i am not alone in this decision." Vâltyr turns to his companions and ask they follow him for a short distance so they can discuss this in peace. "Well, i guess its a good sign they are willing to pay for them. On the other hand i will make it no secret i personally value the hammer greatly as hammers and axes are my weapons of choice, i am however not a rich man so i fear i cant simply buy it for myself. If possible however i would like to know if there is anything else i can do for you other than money. I am a seasoned warrior and would gladly devote any downtime i have in Haven, up to a month in total, of my time to train any of you in anything i know. If you can think of any other favour that would satisfy whatever debt i would put myself in." After clearing his throat he continues. "The other subject that needs to be mentioned is who we can agree will have a rightful share in what we have before us. We are missing two of our party, Lux and Nyx (OOC: please correct me if im mistaken here). Lux as far as i know is still in possession of the crown and while i am glad to hear that she is okay i feel no obligation to share any further with her. Nyx is a curious case,  on one hand i am sympathetic for the loss of her companion, on the other she left before we agreed the job was done. And as much as i would like to talk with her about this i am not about to go chasing a gnome and her boar around town, judging by the fact that no one else has done so i feel you agree with me." "Finally, the payment we are promised for the items, i have not seen such coins anywhere and unless the dwarf is a charlatan trying to trick us they certainly seem valuable. I am curious how much they are actually worth" Vâltyr looks at Aineasal for a moment before quickly shifting his gaze to Kromnir. "Perhaps you could enlighten us as to their value? Either way it is convenient that we would be able to walk away from here with two of these coins each should we not come to an agreement on the pick and hammer."
Argus looks at Valtyr for a moment and at the dwarf (insight check on the trader: 8 INSIGHT ( 5) Argus Teramr) Then he looks at everyone else: "If we could find dat officer that dis 'ammer belongs to, might be worth more dan gold ta be owned a favour by one of dat guys, whatcha think? Also more dan three of us could see a use for dat hammer. If I remember dat gnome Nyx also did 'ave a 'ammer straped to 'er... I know she ran off but dere surely must be a reason... And we can find 'er at the unicorns, I think, she was wearin' da emblem of dem... Givin it to da gnome or tryin to find dat officier will at least make it so dat we don't 'ave to argue about it.  "Da pick I don't see a need for, if one of ya guys wants it, dey can 'ave it. Don't know anyone either dat does mining except maybe dat maladon tradin company folks... But is from da Khuli so it should be with da Khuli I feel. Whatcha think?" He then looks at the Trader and points at the platinum Coin: "Dear Master ... I didn't catch your name, what do you call yourself? Would you also be interested in dat coin and be able to tell us 'ow much it's worth? We didn't see any writin on it, but maybe your glass dingy makes dat easier ta see. And den dere are dese otha dings..." And he points at the ruby and the gem. "How much would you pay for dat gem alone?"  Hoping for a value he could compare with something he knows (Except if he had learned so while being in Khulican...)
"I? Zun Enco'Rica Tamba Yuscan" he says grandly and proudly before turning his attention to the new items you've dumped on his table. The coin seems to have landed on it's edge and rolled off onto the grasses so he started with the intact gem offered by Lux "Hmm, not bad stone, would buy for 4..." he adds an additional four of the exotic coins onto the pile then examines the two pieces of the broken ruby "Ahh, shame, much damage, many value lost..." he points at cracks and fissures extending into the heart of the stone. "5 for each half."

You can see the gears in Kromnir's head turn as he tries to estimate the value of the Enkhuli coins in imperial coins. He says to the party: "Hmm... I would say these coins are worth around 30 gold pieces each... So that would make a total of... two hun.... three hundred?" I'm not completely sure..." - he shrugs his shoulders and looks at Argus: "Your devotion to the law is admirable. However, we have no guarantee that we will find the owner of the item. And even if you did find a dwarf who said he was the owner, how would you be sure he truly is? My brothers are for the most part honorable, but the rivalry between clans can sometimes make even an Enkhuli dwarf forget honor. A magical weapon such as this would be a powerful tool indeed, and I'm sure more than one of my brethren would love to have it. He sighs: "It would certainly be the lawful choice to try to return the item, but I don't think it's feasible.." - he clears his throat - "I'm thinking of the potential this weapon has for good instead if we were to keep it..." "I'm the last dwarf who would want to raise arms against another creature, but if I do have fight to defend myself or my people, and believe me I will do so, I'd rather have this kind of weapon with me". "As for the value of the other items, I suggest we take them to traders in Haven and see if they offer more. If I remember correctly, Lux said the gem was worth 400 gold pieces. If this trader is offering 4, the real value is probably somewhere in the middle, and if he's cheating us with that, who knows what else he's cheating us with".
After saying all this, Kromnir goes looking for the rolling platinum piece.
Argus looks at Kromnir fetching the coin... " Zun Enco'Rica Tamba Yuscan" the words stumble out of Argus' mouth. "Those coins, how much is one in these coins?" And he pulls out a few gold coins. "Alright, I don't mind selling any of those items, I don't feel any dishonesty comin from that man. The only item of debate remains the hammer so for now we could just sell it. If we can ask around, maybe the Tradin company, we can figure out when the last time Khuli were in that mine or when Khuli Officers were there last time. If it is recently, we might have a clue who to ask about the hammer. I can make them say the truth to be sure not any Khuli can come and claim it is his" At this he looks at Kromnir.

"I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't understand. You can... *make* them say the truth? Are you talking about one of those rituals priests cast? Look... - he puts a hand on Argus' shoulders - "it's one thing that an Enkhuli dwarf tells you not everyone can be trusted. It's another thing altogether when you basically show an Enkhuli dwarf that you don't trust his word. What kind of effect do you think that would have? And what if a dwarf lies to you, and then refuses to undergo the ritual? What will your devotion to the law make you do then? Will you tear the weapon from his hands? That would help the newly formed alliance!". "I know your heart is in the right place" - Kromnir gives a friendly pat on Argus' shoulder - "but I'm afraid the best option is for the hammer to remain in our hands". If the trader is offering 150gp for it, then that is what I offer to you so that it may remain in my hands. I wish for it to be put to use as little as necessary and only for a good cause. You can take my word on that." Kromnir extends his hands to both sides:  "I might not be able to give you the money straight away, but if I don't have enough I will remain in your debt until a time comes that I may raise the gold. Or if you prefer, I can owe you a favour".
"Let's make dat simple, if dey do not want ta stand in da zone of da truth den they 'ave no interest in da hammer. Da rightful owner will not mindin doin dat, as long as da question is regarding da 'ammer. Dey won't 'ave it in deir 'ands before we 'ave deir 'onest answer. Sno no tearing things from da hands... "But we can be sure dat not some other guy comes up and tries ta snatch da hammer... Dat would be my wish, but I alone do not 'ave sayin on dat, if you decide otherwise den we will 'ave ta find anotha way. I personally do not need da 'ammer, nor da pick. It is temptin to ask for it, but greed is a crime." He looks and seems to be somewhat bothered that it seems hard to find a conclusion "I'd say we can sell everything but da 'ammer to da dworf, what are ya sayin? Or maybe ask 'im if he as something else dat could be interesting..." He looks at the dwarf: "Masta  Tamba Yuscan do ya 'ave anything interestin to sell or exchange for da items we told ya? Seems people 'ere are in dire need of 'ammers or something else dat you think might come 'andy for adventurers and clearers of da caves."
Ok I think we need to rush this along since its getting to be a week in now... So between the currency, and the intact gems you find you have 311.8 gold. You can sell lux's gem(which you were told was 200 not 400 gp worth) and the two ruby pieces to the trader for 14 trade coins total, which you exchange with the SMC for a further 616 gold. The enchanted mining pick he'll buy for another 6 coins/ 264 gold. When you get around to the hammer and start blathering about zone of truths and such the trader seems to get the gist of it and takes offense at how blatantly you are accusing him and his people of dishonesty right infront of him so he flips and says that since this is an old military weapon the rightful owner is the Temple Army and definitly not you guys, and confiscates the item to be returned to them. He snaps his fingers and the flame in the ornate bowl goes out and he starts moodily packing away as a couple of his guards step up. Clarence/Kromnir was looking for where the platinum coin drifted, I rolled perception(15|8) from your character sheet, you saw it wobble along its edge down the side of the road away from the scene before toppling into the grasses, however when you go back after being distracted with talking to Argus you don't seem to be able to find it there anymore, even though you are sure that no one passed who could have picked it up in those few seconds. So you have a total of 1191 gold and 8 silver to split up. Divided between 7 that's 170 gold, 2 silver and 5 copper, with 5 copper left over.
Vâltyr glare's at Argus then sighs. "Well i guess that solves that, in a way... regardless i feel Lux has claimed her share of the reward, leaving the rest of us with 198 gold and 7 silver, leaving 1 silver left over. Those that knew Nyx can safeguard her gold for all i care, or donate it to her company, if no one objects i would say we are done here." Then he will look at the group to see if anyone objects to his suggestion.
